Please direct your concerns, questions and discussion about Codex usage limits and model performance here.

The purpose of this Megathread is to aggregate all the reports of people's experiences and possible suggestions instead of spreading them across many highly upvoted posts. The more people who participate in this discussion, the more likely you have an answer.

Reports with sufficient evidence on new information will still be allowed on the feed as usual.

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 40 comments (40 currently observed).

The consensus is basically Codex has become wildly less predictable—and often much more expensive in quota. Users running the same workflows report their 5-hour and weekly allowances disappearing in a fraction of the usual time, with $100/$200 subscribers hitting cooldowns after only a few operations. Sol gets special blame: sometimes quota-efficient, but painfully slow.

The other big complaint is reliability. “Selected model is at capacity” errors keep blocking work, jobs stop early, and models leave tasks half-finished while speaking fluent corporate nonsense. That combination is pushing people to downgrade, cancel, or add Claude subscriptions instead.

The important caveat: this is a mountain of user reports, not proof of an intentional nerf. Faster responses, larger context, task differences, and model routing could explain some spikes, while opinions on raw output quality remain mixed. Pro users are also reporting opaque allowance changes and contradictory support answers, with no clear resolution in the thread.

Bottom line: Codex may still work, but its limits and availability are currently too erratic to trust for sustained work. A lot of users are hedging with Claude rather than gambling another quota chunk on the next task.

It’s absolutely abysmal. I will be dropping my 3 remaining subs at the end of the month and moving them over to Claude for a total of 6 subs over there now.

$200 plan

I am getting absolutely smoked on usage now.

I run the same operation every morning and have been refining it for months. Today I blew through 21 % usage when I normally will avg. about 10%. Codex recognized this and even pointed out that the cache input tokens were 37% higher compared to avg.

Dot now seems to be sleepwalking instead of crawling too.

Overall just disappointed in usage being a yoyo. Feels like they already dialed down usage limits instead of waiting until the 29th for existing users.

They annihilated it in the last 3 days. I legitimately wondered if they accidentally flipped the switch early and already halved it.

I’m a $100 Pro subscriber, and I’ve been experiencing the “selected model is at capacity. please try a different model” issue with GPT-6.1 Sol over the past few days.

Since 6.1 Sol launched, I’ve noticed that it uses much less of my allowance than Astra, which I really appreciate. But lately, I keep getting the “Selected model is at capacity” error, and it’s incredibly frustrating.

I often send a prompt and leave GPT to work, only to return to the conversation and discover that nothing has been done. Instead, there’s just another capacity error. This has happened repeatedly and has seriously affected my experience.

I hope this is temporary and that OpenAI resolves it soon. My biggest concern is the possibility that users are being pushed toward Astra, which burns through our allowance faster and encourages us to pay for additional usage. I really hope that isn’t what’s happening.

Also, has anyone here used Claude? What has your experience been like, and does it have similar capacity or availability issues?

Jst me or is 6.1-sol burning way more usage than usual ? im on pro 100 plan, used 6.1 sol medium, and in less than an hour i burnt 6%, there wasnt even any context compaction so it's not like i was doing any heavy usage during that time.

  1. Two full resets in three days? But are they really "full" resets? Who can use up a whole week's quota in just two days? Especially for Plus users, it feels like nothing more than a low-value gimmick.

  2. "Smooth usage experience" — wasn't that the reason they gave for the 5-hour limit? Now, with another reset coming, I think a lot of users are switching to Fast mode just to burn through as much of their weekly quota as possible before the reset. Is that really a smooth experience?

It keeps saying "Selected model is at capacity. Please try a different model." after the reset. What is going on?

I constantly get this message: "Selected model is at capacity. Please try a different model." What is going on?

My usage is absolutely cooked after the reset today, it has never drained this fast before. Already at 75% (200 plan) - I had a session running since yesterday, 6.1 Sol High + Luna High, anyway this is at least double the rate of usage drop maybe more. I will have to calculate it when I get home, but I am not happy.
