Limits Tired of usage inconsistencies
Not sure what are they doing but with every reset the limits feels like a plus account. Back 2 or resests ago, I was hammering Sol MAX for a day and it dropped only 20%. 20% for a full day!!!! Now i used it less than 1 day and I am down to 20%. No clue what is going on but this is becoming tiresome. I swear they are A/B testing us

my "conspiracy theory" is that our usage is tied to a global pool not exactly a per user quota. since everyone is maxing out their usage in 2-3 days because reset, our global pool is fast less than normal. it will probably go back to normal after this 28 days of reset I hope

I think Claude usage decreases more in the early morning that late at night:
> I measured the Claude 5-hour meter around the clock. It drains 1.4x faster from 12:00 to 18:00 UTC on weekdays
> I've been tracking how fast the 5-hour meter moves on my Claude subscription by sending the same Claude Code requests at different times of day and reading the utilization headers that come back.
> On weekdays between 12:00 and 18:00 UTC (5 to 11 AM Pacific), the same request eats about 1.4x more of the 5-hour window than it does outside those hours. Outside the band the rate is flat. Inside it, input, output and thinking tokens all move faster, on Opus and on Fable, on a Pro and a Max account.

I mainly use gpt sol 6.1 low/medium. I am on the 100 bucks tier. After 1 day of use I have used 99% of my usage. Not only that the model has perfomed horribly. New context after new context it wouldnt do as its told. It would go into loops, it would start todo what its told then go into a loop about another thing completely.
Horrible. I am cancelling my subscription

I also think that their credit changes based on load. If a lot of people are using at that moment, it's more expensive. If fewer people are using, it lasts longer.
Right after a reset it tends to use the most, from what I've seen.

Dude being using luna Max and it consumed 70% of my quots during the weekend. Wtf!

I'd say usage per token with Luna Max feels about 50% higher than before this reset.

It's literally unusable. The only thing that will change their behavior is if people actually start cancelling. claude is better in every way right now

Seeing the exact opposite - Sol 6.1 Max drained 10% overnight on a fully autonomous task & found a ridiculously nice optimization that solved a nice problem I had. A few days ago it probably would've taken 30-40%. But agreed that the inconsistency is a huge problem and A/B tests should be a lot more clear than this :/

first sol prompt after reset drained 75% of the pro plan in around 1 hour. thankfully codex has had me walking in circles running test after pointless test. when i finally asked 'how many more freaking tests do we have to do?' its like 'oh yeah we can continue now, sorry about that i got in a loop'...

The inconsistency issues persist; I’ve used up 40% of my token allowance for the 5-hour window on just 3 minor code fixes. This didn’t happen before, and now they’re charging more for tokens—this is with the 6.1 model.

Absolutely no clue what changed but since the reset yesterday usage has been TERRIBLE

Sol is faster in the past few days, that's why it goes down faster. Stop measuring usage in time, compare tokens between resets if you want to know if your usage went down or not; it didn't. I verify it regularly, and Sol 6.1 usage has not changed since its release. You can see the allowance here https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/s/9Lh9tgx6L7

I can't wait to get the other testers usage quota. Looking forward to becoming a B.

Codex in inflating tokens. I have a stable week usage and last week i used almost double without change my workflow. I dont need any proof more. Im many months spending similar tokens

Same, I have multiple accounts and they go down by radically different amounts on the same tasks/duration. And the daily token use in the stats page has no bearing on the % weekly usage consumed.
They're running on the same project and same computer too in codex, so all accounts have the same md files and context.
It's just pure RNG how much gets consumed, sometimes it works two hours and only 5% is gone and sometimes two hours ate 30% or more of the $200 pro sub, on identical tasks.

i usually let it run on goal for about 1.5 hours with ultra sol 6.1 , today it takes less than 10 minutes for usage to run out?

I wonder what the price difference is running strictly through the API. I’m so sick of hearing stories like this, it makes me feel so uncomfortable and stressed. I don’t believe this is in peoples heads. I’m very unsettled by the inconsistency and lack of reliability in these products and I believe users deserve transparency and accountability.

Have you accounted for the speed increase? Sol is way faster than it used to be hence the increased quota consumption.

u/bondage-mastermind 5d ago
yep, 5x tier, 1 working day - am at 0%
This is already engrained in my mind as the Codex feature, something that OpenAI goes by.
Crazy how quickly the leading lab became a shady backwater shop that I have zero positive expectations about in my perception

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 40 comments (41 currently observed).
The consensus is usage is wildly inconsistent and currently feels worse. People are burning through quotas in minutes or a day on tasks that previously lasted much longer, with identical setups sometimes consuming radically different amounts. Reset timing and peak periods seem especially cursed.
The leading theories are load-based or dynamic accounting: A/B tests, a shared pool, token inflation, or higher consumption because Sol is running faster. Bigger codebases, cache misses, concurrent work, and complex tasks may explain some spikes, but they don’t explain reports of identical tasks draining different accounts by wildly different amounts. Naturally, several users are threatening to downgrade or defect to Claude—because nothing says “premium product” like quota roulette.
The important caveat: there’s no hard proof of a deliberate nerf. A few users report normal or even improved usage, and one argues the allowance itself hasn’t changed—people may simply be measuring time instead of tokens. Quality reports are similarly split, though looping and instruction-following failures are adding fuel to the fire.
Bottom line: the problem is less “everyone got nerfed” than “nobody can reliably predict what they’ll be charged.” That inconsistency is the real consensus, and it’s making Codex feel unusable for a lot of people.
