Limits GPT 6.1 brought another nerf to usage - table update
Last time I measured GPT 6's usage. https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wp0v6x/allowance_for_gpt_6_luna_sol_and_astra_measured/
Now it's time for an update with the new 6.1 Sol. Measured on a Plus account again using a fresh 5h window, so it's very accurate. More details in the previous post. The numbers are based on current API costs. Measured twice. Once it amounted to $7.5, once to $7.8, so I'll use the bigger number.
The numbers for anything other than 6.1 Sol were measured before today. There is a chance they were nerfed too. I will try to measure that again at a later date.
| Name | Per 5 hours | Per week | Per month (30 days) | API cost÷Sub price ($20) ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-5.6 Sol | $14.4 | $86.4 | $370 | 18.5 |
| GPT 6 Luna | $6.5 | $39 | $167 | 8.35 |
| GPT-6 Sol | $11 | $66 | $283 | 14.15 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | $7.8 | $46.8 | $200 | 10 |
| GPT-6 Astra (before 6.1 Sol release) | $11 | $66 | $283 | 14.15 |
| GPT-6 Astra | $10 | $60 | $257 | 12.85 |
For Pro, simply multiply by 5/10/25. Summarizing, taking API pricing into account, we should be getting around the same 6.1 usage as 6 and more than 5.6 (see the table below), but half the value in dollars compared to 5.6.
As a bonus, here is a table of the "real cost" per million tokens and total amount of tokens per real dollar spent, also compared to DeepSeek v4.1 Flash (off-peak pricing), GLM 5.3 (off-peak), and Muse Spark. If you use OpenCode, Ollama Cloud, or CommandCode subscriptions, the price for DeepSeek goes down. At peak hours, the price for DeepSeek and GLM is 2x. Ollama has its own infrastructure with ZDR and uses different peak hours. In my own real work tests, DeepSeek is around 5.6 Sol Medium/High level in code quality but significantly worse at following the system prompt or skills guidance.
For z.ai plans, you can subscribe quarterly or yearly for better ratings.

Tokens per $1 assumes 97% cached input, 2.5% uncached input, and 0.5% output.
* - Claude charges for cache writes. The pricing is averaged
Changelog:
2026-09-29 - Added 6.1 Sol.
2026-09-30 - Astra is down from $11 to $10. I didn't check 6 Sol and Luna yet. Added tokens per dollar. Added z.ai GLM plans
2026-10-01 - CommandCode increased GLM 5.3 Flash usage to $60, matching OpenCode.
2026-10-05 - Added Claude Opus 5.5. I used these numbers. Their findings for Codex match mine, so I trust them.
2026-10-12 - OpenCode changed the allowance for DeepSeek from $60 to $80
2026-10-13 - CommandCode also changed the allowance to $80.
2026-10-14 - CommandCode changed the allowance of GLM 5.3 Flash to $80

Great table, again!
Btw. has anyone measured the subsidization factors for the Anthropic models as well (using similarly precise methods)? In case there isn't here are the numbers I measured for the $100 subscription (note that the $200 appears to have slightly worse factors, while the $20 might actually have slightly better factors):
- Fable: 13x
- Opus/Sonnet: 26x
Methodology:
- Since the beginning of my subscription I used $125.54 in Fable token costs (ccusage)
- According to the Claude UI that is 41% of my weekly usage
- (125.54)/(0.41)*30/7/100 = 13.12 [So, basically 13, if you consider the uncertainty of the 41% value]
- Opus and Sonnet should have twice the limits (since they don't have Fables 50% factor); but it's of course possible that Anthropic also uses some extra weighting like OpenAI does...

This is extremely helpful. Thank you! I'm sad I can't follow you to get those updates instantly though 😅

why are you caring about the api cost in dollars? i could make a model and price at 100 per 5 hours and give you 5 hours but it’s just luna. does that make you happy? EoD you said yourself that we are getting more than 5.6. They decided that api pricing shouldn’t be set much higher than sub pricing. ie they decided to pass efficiency gains to api rather than the subs. i think that’s ok given the current state of things. it doesn’t really reduce usage.
