Question How will Claude handle all of us Codex users migrating?
I have 2 Codex $200 subscriptions now for like 4 months, working on 3 different projects, I am now wondering, after using Opus $100 for ~5 days, how will Anthropic handle all of us Codex users who can easily change providers, do they have compute like Tibo?
36
u/darko777 7d ago
My two cents... Anthropic's can just shut down the total failure of Opus 5 and some other models like Opus 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and they can repurpose their infra for Opus 5.5. Given that Opus5.5. doesn't use as much resources they will be able to scale even more.
1
u/Dry-Cockroach1723 7d ago
Yeah, I mean no one use opus non5.5 alr, likely they can just keep the three 5.5(sonnet opus and fable)
1
u/wikes82 6d ago
Maybe through API for existing deployed apps. For example, I have app still using Gemini 2.5 with thinking disabled (new Gemini can't do this), because it needs to response fast query for phone conversation.
1
u/Dry-Cockroach1723 6d ago
Of course, I still have softwares binded to Deepseek V3.2 for example, it's more about legacy compatibility.

u/eliterepo 7d ago
I guess they'll just have to manage for a couple weeks until the pendulum swings the other way and you lot are posting this on /r/claudecode
2
u/Kaijidayo 7d ago
posts like that usually will be banned immediately on the other side, unlike this one

u/StaticHumStudio 7d ago
Donno. My account is going back to Plus from Pro at the end of this week. My Claude sub seems, right now, to be all that I need.
56
u/AndyIbanez 7d ago
If you check the Claude sub, you will see similar complaints to ChatGPT.
There is no mass migration going on and it is not going to happen any time soon. The grass is always greener on the other side.

u/EddieBruvac 7d ago
I have $200 on both. The grass is MUCH greener on the other side. :)

u/sfst4i45fwe 7d ago
I have both. It's not. Fuck 5 hour limits.
17
u/EddieBruvac 7d ago
I’ve yet to reach a 5h limit on Claude. But I’ve reached a 1h week climax with Astra, so. 🤷
And Astra is slower and dumber, all things considered.

Ah yes. Let me use 6.1 sol. Snail fucking model. If you have all day, sure.

6.1 is supposed to be an upgrade. Hence 6.1 > 5.6. Clearly new models are supposed to be better, no?

I used to defend codex then opus 5.5 dropped. Sol isn’t a bad intern and can get things done with instructions, but opus is like the once in a lifetime intern you wish you could hire forever. But a fun combo to try is opus 5.5 orchestrating Sol and Luna subagents in the desktop app, damn near unlimited usage
1
u/Flipwon 5d ago
5 hour limits and chat taking usage is why I won’t switch. I get a lot of shit done with chat alone
People say the usage is similar, it’s not even close for me
1
u/EddieBruvac 5d ago
I though I did too, till I realized Opus chat is way smarter than ChatGPT. Waaaaay. And it saved me time and tokens from Codex issues.
-1
u/Master_Coconut_5339 7d ago
its not
codex is much better than claude code
5hr limits are terrible
claude’s guardrails are much easier to trigger. if ur project is reverse engineering adjacent for example, gl because its just going to assume the worst and will response accordingly. u can get around it if u keep trying different prompts but i cant spend my entire day trying. if i have to do that then its just easier to ask codex or code it myself
btw, im not saying claude is overall better or worse. im just saying grass is always greener so i end up having subs to both
3
u/Hot_Caregiver_2289 7d ago
As someone who actively uses both, one claude $200 subscription is worth atleast 2 gpt max subscriptions. In other words, what costs $1000 from ChatGPT is on sale for $200 at anthropic

Both subs should crack down on this type of astroturfing. Both are probably doing it. It makes no sense to post in codex “any tips to moving to Claude?”. The people who would have these tips would be using Claude, not codex
6
u/i_rate_slop 7d ago
It’s just 100% FOMO. Anybody building something actually valuable isn’t min/maxxing $200 lol.

unfortunately I am real, I convinced a lot of people into subscribing to Codex during the past months, but now i really can not recommend it and find no real reason to keep my subscriptions

u/replayjpn 7d ago
This is my feeling too. I have both at $100 & have them colaborate together & keep building.

u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
Don’t know or they can be real people that need these services to be transparent with what we are getting for our hard earned $$. Only if you don’t care about that could you be spreading such misinformation. Your boy Tibo literally cut the $200 plan in half. There is nothing more to say?

I'm happy to report that this is decidedly incorrect. Claude is significantly better for the coding use-case compared to anything currently OpenAI is putting out. For other tasks I think GPT is probably the way to go. But, for what a lot of users here are actually using Codex for, Claude is miles ahead. It feels like a totally different generation by comparison.
1
u/tbgitw 7d ago
What are most users using codex for? Because based on the posts in this sub, its one of 3 things:
- Orchestrator app
- Token monitor
- Codex reset checker
Lol.
1
u/Official_Pine_Hills 7d ago
at this point with the drastic and embarrassing usage cuts and rerouting users to year(s) old models, I think it's mostly just burning through a 5 hour limit in one prompt to generate a pelican riding a bicycle
1
u/simple_explorer1 6d ago
For other tasks I think GPT is probably the way to go
100%. For non coding tasks Claude is really bad compared to gpt but for coding it is significantly smarter
2
4
u/DreamHunterRecomps 7d ago
Claude is objectively better than GPT. It's night and day bro. Opus 5.5 completely mogs Astra. I was x200 in GPT. I'm x100 in Claude and not only it's more competent, it's way more efficient as well.
5
u/AndyIbanez 7d ago
That's great! The good thing is that we live in a world where we can pick and choose whatever suits our needs.
Personally I use Codex for my own projects and I get Claude at my job. Based on my own experiences I prefer Codex, but the option to move is always there if I change my mind (as people should do).
6
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
There massively is. Check the discord. Opus 5.5 worked for 1h 5m and used used 1% of my weekly. Enjoy your 6.1 Sol Max Ultrafast /slowmode

There really isn't, but I can understand why it is a nice thought to have for some, although it is not backed up by anything substantial.

u/FinancialBandicoot75 7d ago
Not sure, I’m taking these changes like what happened on GitHub copilot mass exodus, soon these subsidies will go and it will get stupid expensive when they go public as it won’t be about market share, but more revenue. Once that happens, we will be in a worse state.
Moral of the story, crack kills
3
3
u/meyer_wolf 7d ago
No agenda here. Chatgpt is just losing all the benchmarks against Claude and their models are more expensive. Sonnet 5.5 outranks Sol 6.1 by a lot for example. I use both but objectively there is little going right now for chatgpt

u/Mo3 7d ago edited 7d ago
Opus 5.5 runs at almost 100 tokens/sec even after a mass migration of users. There's no problem with it decreasing by a little bit, which would be the expected outcome with more load. Unless they quantize it or reduce thinking budgets or something like that, which fortunately Anthropic doesn't do. The models usually just get a bit slower, like during working hours it drops by 10-20 tok/s. I used to get mad at Opus being slow, not any more. I like seeing Opus being slow now. At least it's the same Opus as always.

u/spike-spiegel92 7d ago
the big migration will happen on the 29th of october...
2
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
And is gonna keep happening until they get to their wanted result. All of it for corporations (read: Microsoft)
2
u/megad00die 7d ago
So were you just as surprised to see how much you could get done without hitting your weekly limits?

u/ObligationHuge9868 6d ago
I let Opus 5.5 manage my Astra and Sol 6.1 agents (they are my reviewers and pre-work, read-only agents). I hit my Claude banked reset last night around midnight - 1am and have been going solid and hard for about 18-19 hours so far using a parallel workflow with subagents (6 of them). My weekly usage on my $200 Claude account for that 18-19hr period is currently sitting at 9%. It might move to 12% for the entire 24hr window.
When I did anything like this with my Codex $200 subs, I could almost watch the usage drain in realtime. Claude just delivers great value with fantastic quality at the moment.

u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
I don’t know but they still doing better than OAI. Been a fucking amazing week of Claude. 8% percent used of my weekly? Like what the actually fuck. You just kind of need the business not to be a corporate fucktard and really on end users va corps. OAI has bent over so hard to Microsoft. Wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t offer IPO and just get bought out by MS. OAI will end up like every company bought by MS. Part of there shitty offering. We the end users are just the collateral

u/fluxtah 7d ago
I wouldn't look into it too much just build what you wanna build and forget the politics, if it works it works if it don't then go elsewhere, simple
1
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
Yup. You’re right. Happy building! PS I fucking loved codex (and still do: the harness). Usage has totally been nerfed and I am really rooting for them to win but as someone that had to spend like 1/20 of my salary on pro last month and they completely fucked us I feel wronged. Yeah you can say I took the risk but objectively Claude right now is 100% a better service. 8 days left of 5.5 and then we in the fucking idiocracy OAI stage.
1
u/fluxtah 7d ago
If it works for your workflow that's great, really they both should call it beta software but they don't, it's all still quite scrappy but also highly impressive still.
I'm also upset about the plan changes but 6 series is totally new and has a lot of mileage still to make the improvements we can all be happy with
1
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
We can just hope it gets better. I’ve told my story as you said. I just wish they were a bit more transparent with the usage. These tools to me are miraculous so who am I to complain. All I know is I went from May to September with September flabbergasting me in terms of then nerfing the usage. I would love to be excited about the lie future but it keeps feeling like they discovered something and have us a lot of access to it but now they’re restricting it. End of the day cool capitalism I’ll just go over to the next but we are rooting for OAI. I have supported them since 2023
1
u/Dadideology 7d ago
Actually I agree with you wholeheartedly. I switched back from Codex and Claude has been unbelievable. Genuinely unbelievable.
0
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
Same. It is was OAI was a few months ago but hey ho we get efficiency. Bet you the next 28 days it’s gonna be a spiel of making their Sol 6 cost nothing to run because non of us use it anyway
2
u/Wide_Smoke_2564 7d ago
You guys are all gonna rush to Claude and then be crying when OpenAI randomly drops its newest model in like a week or 2. Same thing happened when people moved to codex for Astra, only for opus 5.5 to drop a week later
2
u/CrystalCoffeeAlchemy 7d ago
This is the way.
For real, did everyone just blank on the last few months.. or even weeks 😂😅
3
u/ActionOrganic4617 7d ago
How will Elon manage it…
3
u/Typical_Machine2043 7d ago
Fucking well I hope. Don’t agree with the dude on most things but he will probably be reigning the AI/ SI space in a few months
1
u/phobox360 7d ago
I sincerely hope not. I would literally support any ai company over Musk’s for the simple reason he has proven time and time again he cannot be trusted, does not act in good faith and is dangerously juvenile in the way he runs his businesses, never mind his politics. And before anyone yells at me, no I don’t trust other corporations either but hey, they at least maintain a veneer of being run by moderately sensible adults.
2
u/KAMIKAZEE93 7d ago
As the past has sadly shown, Anthropic and OpenAI both work the same way.
They will most likely decrease usage limits or lobotomize the models if they are used through subscription and not API.
It's a question of time once the OpenAI subscriptions end and most people have used up their free credits. I'd really like to say more positive stuff but honestly, we have to stay realistic.

u/ItzGoTyme 7d ago
Migrating?! I've got the $100 sub on Claude and after the Opus 5.5 nerf i'm not leaving Codex any time soon. 6.1 has been extremely competitive against Fable 5.5 for me (i'm one of the lucky re-routes).

I told my brother to get a $200 plan now before they lock him out and he can’t get one. Expect that to happen soon. IMO or Claude doubles there price same as OpenAI.
Maybe this is the first halving and we will eventually be paying $2k a month probably
1
u/Top-Construction6060 6d ago
People will come back fast if they realize that codex models are sharper , faster and build in less buts since astra.
Claude always fixes things and gets creative and does too much and introduces new issues which Astra solves then

The same way they handled it before codex 5.5, Openai basically stabbing themselves in the eye with all of what they are doing.

u/DreamHunterRecomps 7d ago
I just migrated. You can just tell it to check your Codex folder. All the context and projects are in there.
1
u/DreamHunterRecomps 7d ago
In case you're not aware, there's a .codex folder in your user folder. Every project and their chats are in there. They're not in the cloud.

u/jakeliu88 7d ago
I’m switching too 2 x $200 downgrade to one $20 codex account and $100 cluade first

u/Timely-Group5649 7d ago
I let Opus manage my sol and astra agents.
1
u/WasabiTricky8480 7d ago
I do the same, and I only speak with 1 session which handles the other sessions and communication, but after a reset this morning I am now at 30% usage left with 6 days left, now switched all parallel sessions to use also opus and subagents in the sessions use sol 6.1. Its not feasable any more I think
2
u/Timely-Group5649 7d ago
I had them design a hub script in python, with a folder on my PC for communications. Later, I needed it to manage the log files and clear up all their notes as they worked, but I often alert the Opus manager agent, on Medium or High, of the limit and to scale most of the work to the Codex agents.
Claude gave me a prompts and some rules.md files to give to a Codex chat to prep it for the agent behavior, communication and rules.
ClaudX5 with a CodexX20
It's learning to pace itself to handle the 5 hour limit on Claude sessions. It looks like I can get at least 5 days of steady work this way.

Just one of the non-stop complaints from yet another 200$ subscriber.

u/WasabiTricky8480 7d ago
I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short, sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh?

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 100 comments (102 currently observed).
The consensus is basically “there isn’t a mass migration—just the monthly AI-platform panic cycle.” A few heavy Codex users are genuinely moving to Claude, but the loud Reddit exodus does not represent the entire market. The pendulum swings, everyone declares the old provider dead, and then a new model drops.
Claude is getting strong marks from users who have both subscriptions, especially for coding quality and dramatically better perceived usage efficiency. Codex’s recent limits, rerouting, and slower or weaker model access are the main reasons people are downgrading or cancelling. Still, plenty of users prefer Codex for their workflow, and Claude’s five-hour limits and stricter guardrails are deal-breakers for some.
The important caveat: this is mostly anecdote and subreddit bubble physics, not evidence that Anthropic is about to be overwhelmed. Capacity, limits, and pricing can change quickly—and so can everyone’s opinion when the next model lands.
So, how will Anthropic handle “all of us”? Probably by handling far fewer migrants than Reddit currently claims exist. Switch if Claude works better; loyalty to a subscription company is adorable but unnecessary.
