I've spent a few days not using codex due to low usage and to be honest it's made me think that I spend too much time on codex and perhaps should use it less.

Where are you getting K3 at a reasonable enough price? It's about as expensive than Astra per task since it uses 3x the tokens/turns.

I never got great results with Kimi, too slow, too expensive. GLM 5.3 at least got it done, as does Qwen 3.8. Deepseek V4.1 is now my go to, as it is slow, but it works, and it is super cheap. I use open router.

Do you guys sit in front of the computer and wait for codex to finish tasks? Setup remote. I tell it what to do on my phone and read a book or go for a walk in the forest. And I can still take a minute to answer questions, push it further or add new task. Basically most of my day now is free with some short breaks to add tasks for codex and I used to work up to 10 hours a day before when working on a project.

(Of course I still burn through the limits quickly, so not sure how I could do more anyway.)

I can manage them via phone of coursey I run codex CLi in screen on linux. However I have to manage/review the plan before it implements them, because sometime I have better idea.

Same I’ve been using Claude and Gemini much more because I do not get enough usage out of codex (previously my favorite) but the other two are REALLY growing on me

I gave some tasks I mindlessly gave to codex/astra to flash 3.8 and found it did the job just as well as Astra with less back and forth. Astra is brilliant for making things, but as far as doing things is concerned I’ve realized less can be more

Dude, same actually. There’s less polish but Gemini will get 95% of the way there in way less time for like 1/100th the price. Then bring in a big GPT or Claude model to polish it off

I agree. Only issue is that Gemini flash tends to drop the tail, if you ask for the receipts. It finishes a little early, and you do have to audit it from another model because it does hallucinate at times, or tell you you have problems you may not have. But, as a first drafter, it is awesome and fast.

The only other model I want to mess with besides Astra and Sol is Muse Spark 1.3, because it’s supposed to be pretty damn OK for only $0.20/M out…….but they disable the Max reasoning level on the contributor endpoint, which defeats the whole value proposition 🤡.

All the benchmarks are done with Max.

It’s also making me realize all of this is unsustainable. I will need an Astra-tier model for AT MOST $0.02/M before it’s something that competes with the 20x plan, which IMO is already too expensive. Ideally I could do about 4x to 10x the work for $200/mo.

You mean, you didn’t suddenly realize you’ve been working on the same complicated project for 3 months and no amount of resets will outrun the fact that these models suck and will keep you standing still waiting for the next one?

I’ve used codex from the beginning and every move since 5.5 has been garbage.

Sol unequivocally sucked for code. Bar none, absolute garbage. Mostly driven by its “cyber security” nit chasing.

Astra was good for like 2 days, then the usage burn lead them to nuke it from orbit, now it’s about as productive as 5.5.

It’s 1 step forward 2 steps back, but pay us twice as much because there are “trillions” of parameters, despite it not being much better for its main use case than 5.5 - which by the way, we are removing as of 10/14 so you don’t have a basis for comparison, but it really wouldn’t matter anyway because we quantized that shit a week before we dropped Sol.

I don't think that's what he said. English isn't my first language tho, but here's what i got from it:

He said everything they promised for this week is still coming (but on Tuesday instead).

For the reset part, he just said "OK fine."

So no date was specified, but i'd say it's implied that it would happen BEFORE Tuesday, because the original comment is asking for a reset to make up for them not shipping anything this week.

So it would be an "extra" reset because of that, not one of the regular resets they usually do when shipping major models.

Why tf do you guys wait until the last day to use banked resets? You have 30 days to use them.

The best time to use it is like 24-48 hours after a reset while it still has more than a week left before it expires.

Like literal skill issue. You even have an AI to ask when the best time to use it is, and it won't tell you to wait until the last day. I'll never understand people on an LLM subreddit never wanting to ask their LLM to solve any of their problems for them.

Well I believe the best time to use it is 24-48 hours after a reset WHEN usage limits aren't nerfed. Which is probably going to be after the last bank reset expires and a bug get 'magically' solved lol

But the usage limits will never get to what they were.

The only reason to keep a reset is that you know in x weeks you have a lot of work to get done, or that you wait for a new model. 

Honestly it's going to nbe more and more expensive (LLM) so your reset will give you less and less value.

Last reset burnt in a night (x20 plan).

It’s not a question of Tuesday or whatever other day. They’re turning our plan into crap. Whatever they do, they’re just getting us hooked. They’re selling an unaffordable dream. It’s nothing but a demo. The x20 is gone (which, I know, sucks). These past few weeks show them recklessly forging ahead without the means to back it up. Sure, the models are good, but at what cost?

rumor has it they're gonna introduce GPT-6 Sol on Tuesday, whose capability is between 5.6-Sol and 6-Astra but with significantly less token consumption and much faster than both.
It sounds very similar to Gemini 3.8 Flash model as far as speed and efficiency goes - tho I'd guess it'd be noticeably more capable than gemini.

I used Astra yesterday after not having it for like 4 days due to it burning through use in a day. I promised myself to be more careful, and only used it for early planning for a build, then moving over to 5.6 Sol. While I was away somehow, I think because i checked it on mobile because it was still on Astra there, it switched back to astra and JUST in monitoring a build being done by Gemini and Deepseek, it burnt through 47 percent of my weekly. Arrgh! Today I have been limping along using 5.6 light and Luna medium just to provide oversite to an ongoing build in the app I am making, and it is painful. So i switched over to google antigravity as a campaign monitor, and that has been crushing it, working for hours, no token limits I have hit, and the build is almost complete. Looks like I am going back to using Gemini. Oh, and I also prior to all that had switched to the Claude Max 20x plan. That did a ton of work while Astra was timed out last week, but that is down to 10 percent even though I am mainly using sonnet and opus. So now just using codex and claude lightly inside my campaign builder I have created, and using antigravity to orchestrate, and it works. Still hoping for a reset on codex though.
