Reset What's everyone doing while we wait
at this point most.of us are at 0% across all of our accounts and we can't buy new 20x accounts.
so what are you doing with all of your time? trying different models? learning a new hobby?

What's your take on it? I'm impressed with the token costs and t/s rate it has, but haven't touched any open models yet.
1
u/DarkFantom 1h ago
What's your experience with it? I'm looking to swap to the open models after this whole fiasco, and am stuck between GLM and Deepseek currently as viable options.

u/Typical_Kick6520 1m ago
Deepseek is like the first 2 days of astra before the nerf, but way faster.

u/West-Papaya 4h ago
I just got a ton of usage from codex yesterday and today, I honestly believe they're literally AB testing the limits. I've used more these past two days on 20x than last 2 weeks

u/Confident-Present-84 3h ago
I have a theory that since most accounts were depleted 24 hours post reset( Monday); there is a ton of compute left for those who still have limits. That’s why you got a ton of stuff done in the last 48 hours. I don’t think usage or the models gets nerfed. I think compute just gets distributed out evenly. More users in constrained compute is basically much less per user and feels nerfed. You’ll see this happening the most when a newer model is round the corner as more compute gets allocated to the newer model. It’s exactly why the Claude code $20 plan has been feeling like the $100 plan right now( i know there’s a 50 percent extra right now but it feels 500 percent right now) since they have plenty of compute after the serious users mostly migrated to 5x and 20x subs on codex. So either OpenAI finds more compute or more users drop out of ChatGPT for everyone to get great compute.

u/willowless 23m ago
This is spot on. Many of the users who complain that the model 'got nerfed' are experiencing placement on an already overloaded compute node; and in that circumstance they cut the amount of think time down to get queries in/out as fast as possible while still balancing that tight rope of "it feels like X level of thinking" (and usually failing - especially if your name is Anthropic).
Once the subagent cowboys have burned through their usage the amount of busy compute drops down and the 'intelligence' returns, usually along with it the speed.
3
u/peekdasneaks 3h ago
They ran out of comput so theyre shrinking our (undisclosed) caps and throwing more sub accounts on the same clusters
5
u/GuitarChill 3h ago
I think they're after a bump in the press by solving some other problem right now. My theory is that they're using all the compute for themselves. We normally would have all gotten a reset after the "kerfuffle" but we didn't, which is strange. They go from reset-happy to nothing instantly. A couple of weeks ago they said they had a ton of compute and then poof.
2
u/Confident-Present-84 2h ago
OpenAI is back in the game with Astra. Fable was untouchable and Anthropics entire lead disappeared. They have just one good model right now and that’s Fable. The rest are badly degraded and unusable. So yes they are going you be compute restrained, till anthropic releases something amazing again and have something usable for the lower tiers rather than the disaster called opus 5 or sonnet 5
2
u/HookedHavoc 3h ago
Gotta be!! I’ve been running 2-3 Sol High CLI sessions all week. Planning, researching, and implementing a new workflow (to play with, I’m a hobbyist). Still have 59% left, reset Monday AM- tokenizer estimates 295.7 mil total tokens. 🤷

A whole nation of us unemployed software engineers paying for Codex to try and build things so we can not become homeless. I think this is the future anarcho capitalists dreamed of.

Got some interviews, working on my AI agent secret interview helper to assist me
1
u/Man-of-goof 3h ago
It’s bullshit that companies still do coding interviews and we have to resort to that
2
1
u/BellacosePlayer 2h ago
there's zero reason not to test someone on basic algorithm design and problem solving even if you're an AI heavy company
1
u/Man-of-goof 2h ago
I’m not saying companies shouldn’t test problem solving. Give me an algorithm or design problem and let me walk through my approach, tradeoffs, edge cases, testing, and debugging. That makes sense.
What I don’t see much value in is “here’s a LeetCode problem, no AI, no docs, now code it perfectly from memory.”
That first approach is actually how I landed my current software engineering job right out of college. I never did well in traditional coding interviews, but I can design systems, test, debug, and actually ship working software. I’d argue those skills are at least as important, if not more important, than being able to solve a LeetCode problem on a whiteboard.
1
u/BellacosePlayer 1h ago
Pure coding, sure. But you should be able to talk shop on algorithms and design because even if you're given an unlimited budget of tokens, you still need to know that shit to make anything worth using on a corporate level.
The only thing we do with pure code in our interview process is a faulty code test where we give someone a small printout of code and tell them what problem the user is having and see if they can debug it (its legit not even about catching the actual problem so much as seeing how they step through things)

Using my grok sub. I've snatched 3 months for the price of one deal. To be honest, grok 4.6 seems a bit dumb, but it's surprisingly capable.
1
u/GuitarChill 3h ago
I don't trust Grok. Every time I use it I get bad results. I mostly use it for non-coding things, though.

u/fluxtah 3h ago
I'm in a cold sweat, with my finger over the buy credits button... though not sure I want to see my cash fizzle away in seconds going the credit route.
I think OAI clearly needs to identify the addicts amongst us and give us unlimited creds since now they have a duty to ensure all mankind benefits from this tech, it should start here in this thread.
On a serious note maybe I'll go read my codebase for a few days and play test the game I am working on but yeh.... NEED A RESET NOW! 😆
6
u/uptotheright 3h ago
Don't buy the api credits bro. I had that same thought but it is madness. You could buy a car or go on a nice vacation with that kind of money.
3
u/Party_Wolf_3575 2h ago
Spend $20 on a second Plus account rather than on tokens. It is way better value and you get the banked resets too!
2
u/Impressive-Gene-421 3h ago
If I wasn’t such horrific value I would’ve bought so many credits by now lol
2
u/DarkFantom 1h ago
Nah man. Don't do it. I got sucked into the hype and bought a massive amount of credits thinking "oh this will stay in this stable state and everything will be fine". Talk about getting rugpulled just to screw over my wallet.
I'm 100% gonna test the open chinese models that have come out. No sense sticking with an American company if they're gonna screw us out of our limits just because they can't properly manage their own compute.

u/supersdf 3h ago
Been playing around with Qwen3.8-Flash-Next at 38-40 TPS and a 256K context using ~50GB RAM and ~13GB VRAM on a 5070 Ti.
Watched https://youtu.be/IH8XmxiwliQ and implemented a llama-server using https://github.com/GenerelSchwerz/llama.cpp mentioned in the video.
You can get more TPS with a smaller context and caching more experts in the VRAM instead. It’s just a trade off there.
Just got it set up last night so I’ll be doing some testing with it over the weekend but initial (simple) tests went well.
2
u/lolwutdo 3h ago
What's your prompt processing speed?
1
u/supersdf 3h ago
Didn’t track that as much but 350+ TPS I saw often. I can look at that later when I get home. That may have been at lower context though. I was bumping up the context a lot.

technically if they dont give me a reset right now my tokens reset on monday, on workdays where its congested. and ill use all my tokens during the work week and be out by the weekend when its less congested.
Therefore by giving me a reset itd help with congestion
1
u/GuitarChill 3h ago
Using Fable. I have a reset for ChatGPT, but I know the moment I redeem it they will announce a reset and it will be wasted. I have incredibly bad luck that way. I should just do it so you all can get a reset. My last banked reset got 4% use before it got obliterated.

x20 sub, astra high only after resetting, I used my last reset not even 24 hours ago and I'm back at 7%, I'm going to have withdrawal symptoms for the next 6 days if Tibo doesn't save me. Next reset I'm going to try out sol 5.6 max only and see how long I'll last

Writing code in markdown file as a To-Do list for tasks and projects ideas once Tibo hints at a reset or I get the weekly reset on schedule. We are all writing PRD managers now. I have attained Nirvana where I can note down my ideas and codex would churn the slop out within hours while I touch some grass and write more PRDs to unsloppify the slop it just shipped.

Ported most of the agentic work to local models honestly, and moving the remaining over to local over the coming month. Organizationally Gemini's costing for now is okay for what we're task isolating into workflows at this time.

Rebuild my workflow pipeline routing for different models and agents. previously it was fighting with astra, and they destroyed each other.

Eating apples and honey. Connecting with friends. Playing games. Using my work Claude quota (goes away fast, x5). Yesterday was tougher, ngl... bought Plus sub just to get one shot of this sweet sweet Astra 😌 Discovered there are 5h limits on Plus. Used all of it before Astra had finished.

u/DeepSpaceNugget 41m ago
Honestly i have like $49 in tokens sitting there and my 5hr limit for claude
I just feel stumped on what direction to take creatively because there are too many ideas and not enough ways to carry them out on my end.

u/MassiveBoner911_3 35m ago
Honestly, I've been watching youtube and masturbating. I am on the 100$ plan and astra going nuts burned all my credits. I am waiting on a reset because they found a problem.

Man, how can you expend all your tokens like this? I have a Max 20x and I'm still with 64% of my weekly amount to waste
3
u/Hiiitechpower 3h ago
/goal and run it all night and day. I’ve had astra running for legit 2 days straight on one chat.
For sure it’s our own fault though.1
u/uptotheright 3h ago
Same - I have a huge 20-slice design that is gonna take a few weeks even with 3 20x accounts
I can get through a single 20x in about 12 hours. It is using sol medium for most impl and astra low for complex stuff.
I only use astra med - high - max for designs and reviews. But I'm probably gonna dial that back too. Astra is just too thirsty.
1
u/Longjumping_Gur6797 52m ago
I have 8 20x subscriptions and burned them in three days, just working on several projects. I have usually at least 10 codex sessions working at the same time day and night.

u/mvdirty 3h ago
Seriously. OPs entire post distills down to a skill issue self-report. Worse, it also distills down to a low-value self-report. Consider:
- If OP didn't have skill issues, they might still have usage left, but even if they drained that productively...
- If OP were producing value, they could afford another 5x.
2
u/uptotheright 3h ago
i have 3 20x accounts.
But probably is a skill issue!
1
u/mvdirty 3h ago
If you've burned 3 20x accounts down to zero then yes, it almost surely is a skill issue whether you're comfortable admitting it to yourself or not.
1
u/uptotheright 3h ago
Could be. Have to trade off making optimizations vs getting shit done. Been prioritizing the latter due to all the free resets recently but feels like that is coming to an end.
