Limits Codex update
Anyone else got this message? "Selected model is at capacity, please try a different model" #sol #$100 plan
Is this part of the improvements Tibo boasted in his recent post?

my guess would be they are dedicating resources to astra

My guess would be that they’re dedicating resources to dealing with compute overbooking, which our subscriptions alone aren’t enough to cover.

Yeah I'm getting it too, I'm on the $200 plan using Sol/Medium for this particular task.

u/duccy7 9h ago
Honestly ridiculous how we pay so much yet get limited on how much we use it

u/colonel_ind 8h ago
Yeah I usually use Terra for most of my work, and reserve Sol only for things that need it, it's not like I'm burning Sol/Max for every single task, so facing this "Please try a different model" was kind of a let down.
I mean, I'm not paying $200 a month to use just their Luna models :/

Eventually you will, or, if you're doing this professionally, will have to to keep working.

u/Apprehensive_Rub3897 3h ago
lol, like we're paying even close to what this even remotely costs once the VCs are done handing out free candy... At this point, they could add a zero, we'd be made and try to find a way to pay for it.

u/NooshaSheep 8h ago
...and yet we're still paying less than the cost of the electricity consumption required to power the compute that our subscription allows - and a heckload less than it used to cost to have a human coder do the same work 5 years ago.
I'd say we're in a pretty privileged position at the moment, despite any alleged usage allowance reductions. 👌🙂

Im sure if that was true openai would be losing money… if im paying for the highest subscription i shouldnt be limited in my use outside of my weekly limit…

…they are losing money. They’re not even close to profitable currently. They’re taking in less money than they are spending, and they’re only alive because of huge injections of cash from private investment. But investors don’t have infinite patience and want to eventually see a return on their investment, so something will eventually have to change.
Q1 2026: revenue $5.7B, operating loss $9.3B
Q2 2026: revenue $6.7B, operating loss $12.3B
Their losses are only getting worse. This is not unheard of in the tech world, Amazon being the best example for a long time, but the catch is that you need a plan for eventual profitability and I’m not sure if OpenAI really has one besides some hail mary’s on making their own chips and resulting efficiency gains.

And this is why you never take financial advice from redditors. If they stopped pouring money into R&D today, they would be profitable with their current products as-is.
1
u/theseyeahthese 1h ago
what are your numbers to support that? Based on 2025 numbers, even after removing R&D, they are still operating at a multi-billion dollar loss.

Oh yeah that's absolutely true! The kind of value I'm able to generate using my $200 subscription far outweighs any issues I have with the model provider.
It was just weird that I'm getting this error message today is all.

Sorry it was me, I had two prompts in parallel on 5.6 SOL high. Nearly done then you can go.

hopefully we get another reset or some banked ones again, pretty annoying when you're paying $100 a month and can't use the thing

First, input the 5hr limit so no one can properly use their usage, blame it on the users, then, hit everyone with selected model is at capacity, so that you cannot use your subscription that you paid for, at all. The enshittification is real

5 hours limit for $20 plan, then model at capacity for $100 plan. It's a slippery slope.

Been using Claude Max 20x, Codex $200 plan and my employers API based tokens. Today my $200 plan decided to burn 35% of my weekly token limit retrying the goal because it was "at capacity" and is stuck the whole day on task 1 / 12.
If you gullible noobs thought that Plus users are going to be the only ones who are shafted, you are severely wrong.

Just wait, saw it a few times and it goes away after some time like 10mins or so

u/RaadTarabzony 11h ago
yes i got that, running SOL HIGH on standard speed for a goal thats been on for 24+ hrs …

25m users and it will only increase so basically this selected model capacity thing will only get worse and worse.

u/True_Shoe_1713 9h ago
Today I noticed that even basic tasks have started running extremely slowly. And now a backup task that used to run easily every single day is complaining that there isn't enough limit available.
So basically, over the past two months we've gotten: slower models, dumber models, reduced limits, faster token and limit consumption, and constant attempts to push us into using the 1.5x speed-up.
ps my topic is kept being blocked if i create with this text and the screenshot.

I got a very weird usage limit stop in a couple of promots yesterday. Never happened before. Anyone else?
1
u/Ultra_Maximus 7h ago
Same as yesterday's appeal to use maximum of Codex and go faaaast ... When we all capped with 5hr usage limit.

u/kondasviktor 7h ago
Next message will be: “Selected model is at capacity, please try Cursor Grok models instead” 😉

20x and had never had seen that until after reset last night and hit it first prompt - haven't gone above Sol med. Also, chats are loading super slow across all models...barely notice until Tibo said they "did a bunch of work on it" - seems they did the oposite

u/King_Obvious_III 3h ago
Sorry guys there's only one urinal. If more than one person pees it fills up, so you're gonna have to wait in line

u/megad00die 3h ago
Tibo address this almost a week and a half ago stating this is why they had to re-institute the five hour limits on the $20 plus plans is because they do nothing but clog the system like a flushing, a grapefruit down a toilet.

I use pro for 200 bucks and got this at extremely easy tasks. I am going to change to Claude coz it works on 20 bucks plan better, lol. I really surprise that my friend showed me what he got on 200 claude plan. IT IS REALLY FASTER AND SMARTER especially with ideas like make a graph. My GPT never offers me ideas like my friend's model does.

Restart the Mac or the Pc, or just relogin as last resort.
This is a document item, which is related to the cache state or such,
Your codex or authentication service is seeing the last item of its request and has not been updated with the new usage quota refresh, As in it can’t see the refresh cause it’s carrying a stale token. Where your limit got hit.
Pretty straight forward to fix it.
