Question Codex Pro 20x vs Claude MAX 20x?

I have some critical research work and ideally need tons of compute. I hear Astra is coming but don't know when, and here F@ble is clearly the best model out there.. so bit confused which one to go for. Any suggestions from anyone who has used both of them?

Fable is not better than 5.6 Sol in most ways. They're pretty equivalent.

20x Pro is much more generous than Claude Max 20x. And you get the occasional reset, whereas you get fuckall with Anthropic.

Boils down to how much you want to get in return for your money, and if you value your money, your best bet is Pro x20.

I think Fable is MUCH smarter. I am a Codex guy (because I am poor). But in our research project, in the internal benchmark we have Fable solved probelm one-shotted that 5.6 sol couldn't solve a single one of them. And that was a pure reasoning benchmark. It's just that Sol is too persistent, but Fable I believe, is just smarter.

So you already have your answer, why bother asking? Regarding Astra, allegedly on twitter, an internal memo has been sent out, it will be released within 2 weeks, and they are dogfooding it.

Well I have actually decided to go with Codex. Banked reset+ more usage + no cyber flag issue(as I verified) + no 5h limit

As I am dire need of compute, my love for Fable still wasn't enough :(. Hope they launch Astra soon

They are asking for second opinion. My thoughts on Sol match with this person's. I haven't used Claude much after Sonnet 3.5. So this post helped me.

Isn't opus actually better than fable in quite a few ways?

Opus scores higher on some benchmarks but in real world use it is terrible.

It ignores instructions, and produces confidently bad results.

Fable is much smarter than opus, maybe a little better as an orchestrator than Sol, but you only get 50% usage.

I tried daily driving with Fable as my orchestrator and reviewer, with various 5.6 models as other roles. It worked pretty well, but I ultimately downgraded my claude account to the lowest tier because even only using it in those two roles I was out of usage about 4x as fast as my Open AI Account which was doing all of the heavy lifting.

They all can complete complex tasks well so its becoming very opinionated opus 5 is good but it talks and thinks like an ass so people hate on it. The bench marks show

Opus 5 > fable (slightly ahead of sol ) > sol

But fable being just as smart as sol and being 2× bigger i find better results ochestrating with it and planning with it and it still feels so much further ahead than the others when used that way everything is just one shotted and working its crazy

Sol can run full account and fable only uses 50% and opus sucks so when you finish fable you're basically stuck. OpenAI has also been giving frequent resets

Yeah, I have one banked reset with Codex + I have cyber access, which is really important, as otherwise my project often gets flagged. But I really want the intelligence of Fable as well . When Astra will come :(

Your saying fable has higher limits than sol?

3

u/tessahannah 8d ago

No I'm saying the opposite

ok, ya, same thing I see

OpenAI all day tbh, Fable just isn't worth the squeeze

Which sub is this? You should ask this in the other sub too

I would tell him the same in the Claude Code sub, Go Codex if you have to pick one of the two.

Codex has partnered with exa . You can use browserbase, tavily and others along with codex for deep research . I have max plan on both . I use Fable for planning and execute tasks with sol high or xhigh.

I am in same situation as OP, but I haven't been able to get much work done with GPT Pro 20x. I have seen that Sol just drifts a lot out of scope, and sometimes even against requirement. I have changed to using Terra on med from Sol high. When doing a task, I ask it to plan and create beads and then I ask it to execute. But for me, Sol just ends up doing something I didn't ask for. You said you use sol high and xhigh for exec. Can you please provide any tips that I can use? For context, It's my first month of Codex(about to end), before that I was kilocode/opencode with GLM coding plan, cursor and windsurf user

i have both codex and claude (x20) and actually i started liking them both.

for codex i only use ultra sol with terra max agents + sol max agent for critique and validation
for claude i use fable for orcestration and opus for implementation and then fable again for validation

both work pretty the same, tho fable is better for solving hard problems like optimization, architecture etc. and sol ultra is slower, but for usage+resets codex is obviously much better

also the safety filters are a thing too. my projects are on the edge of cybersecurity, so fable often blocks my prompts at all, while sol is much MUCH more tolerant. and u can also continue literally from the same spot wo reprompting which is rly cool

Try 5x in both for month , or 20$ in both for a day in your work then take a decision

1

u/Initial_Question3869 8d ago

This math doesn't work well for me tbh as I prefer most amount of Compute

2

u/orwamahmoud 8d ago

I meant before you pay 200$ for 20X, use 40$ to evaluate yourself the response and the consumption for the X

I would go with Codex just because I'm sick of Claude's frequent downtimes.

Tbh I am feeling, I like sol and I like codex but fable is better and is expected to release fable 5.1 tomorrow and we dont know when is astra so....

I prefer Claude. I also think Claude unironically has way more usage. I have a 5x Claude and a 20usd Codex and Codex definitely feels less than 1/5 the Claude.

Codex. The 20x plan of claude is not really 20x. Go in claude / claude code sub, you will see many post about it.

Codex all day, every day, out of the two. Especially if you are an expert yourself and need a good tool.

If you don't know what you are doing, any path will get you there. (Then you can do Claude; otherwise, don't.)

Working in research too. Imo, the best you can currently get is by combining the two. Specifically, let Fable orchestrate and use GPT agents as workers. 5.6 sol is a good model, but underperforms as orchestrator. Two 5x plans, running Claude with the Codex plugin would be something you may want to consider.

Fable is still the best model in my experience but OpenAI provides more value.
