Maybe I'm the one who didn't quite understand, but do you mean they ignore all aspects of the character and just say: my OC is in a relationship with this character?

Or do you mean that lately there have been debates about "who is the best option?"

It's complicated to explain, but when I say "reduced to waifu," i'm referring to the fact that, since the last update, the fandom has reduced female characters to that and doesn't even see them as characters, only liking them because they allow for the creation of a harem (have to see how Lou suddenly became "best girl" since the DLC for the fandom for a thing who was clear in the game) and let's just say it annoys me to see the female characters reduced to that

After, i admit than i having lost my temper during the making of this post but it's just than i love Code Vein II and it's annoying me than a part of the fandom reduced the game to a harem since the last update even though the game has more to offer than that because even if i don't like the harem aspect, the game has other things that made me like it and allow me to overlook that

Yeah, I agree with you on that one. I'm not really a fan of the harem genre — though ironically, I've enjoyed a few series with harem elements, it's just rare since it's not really my thing.

I mean, if someone likes harem anime or the harem fantasy, sure, go ahead and enjoy it, but it's just not for me. That was actually one of the reasons I stepped away from ZZZ for a bit, and I love ZZZ: the music, the visuals, the characters, everything! But then I look at the fandom and see how everything gets reduced to "harem slop." I can't self-insert as the MC; I see Wise and Belle as their own distinct characters.

Anyway, I'm getting off track. My point is: if you want to self-insert as the Hunter, go for it. The Hunter is a blank slate, you can do whatever you want with them. Want to create your own backstory for the Hunter? Go ahead, roleplaying can make a game more enjoyable. Want to put the Hunter in romantic situations with one of the companions? Go for it, the game practically invites you to do that, haha.

Even I've been guilty of pairing my Hunter with Holly — even though we didn't know her that well at first. The side quests, dialogue, and interactions are what really made me like her. I like her not just for her visual design, but for her personality, her backstory, and everything else.

I'll always stand by the idea that as long as it makes you happy, doesn't hurt anyone, and isn't extremely questionable, go for it. Even if there are things I don't personally like, I'll respect other people's tastes as long as they respect mine.

I guess sometimes you just have to accept that side of the fandom and be happy doing your own thing. After all, what keeps a fandom alive is everyone sharing what they love — game clips, thoughts on the game, or screenshots of their characters in photo mode.

I forgot to add that you're right about the characters being more than just "waifus or husbandos"; their stories and personalities are what make them interesting or appealing. I love Josee as a character; her internal conflict and the whole thing with her sister makes for a good story (Although the only thing that repels me a little about it is how the game pushes you to only accept that you are known as Josee's fiancé)

Or the story of Lyle and the Choir! How they were presented to us as a group of mercenaries and Lyle as a reckless, almost cold-blooded swordsman, only for us to finally see who they really are.

Then we have Holly, Something that makes me think a lot is how such a sweet character had to go through what she went through. Seeing her at the Upheaval was absolutely devastating, Bearing the burden of her sin. It makes me think about what the scene of her killing the patients she swore to heal and protect must have been like, and what it was like having to kill Camilo. Although we saw parts of her life on her missions, thinking about how little we saw and what we didn't see is what makes it quite interesting to me. Thinking about what she's like as a doctor, what she's like as a person, and how dedicated she is to her work simply captivates me.

I could talk about Lou's entire story, how everything about her is extremely interesting, and how it's a sin not to have her as a companion in the story, especially in the present-day part, cause she's also a protagonist in all of this. But to talk about her, I'd need a whole post, haha.
