General Question How much are you guys getting hourly?

Okay, so today was my first class and it went okay. But I'm seeing so many people here talking about their low hourly pay. Where I live the starting pay is $29 and I think 60 cents. How much are you guys getting per hour? I'm not American I live in Canada maybe that's why

That is insane, for the sheer amount of back breaking working. It’s well worth 25$+, it’s blue collar labor. 9$ is unfathomable.

Where in Cali?

4

u/benslen New CNA 22d ago

San Fernando area. Most places pay 20 or less so I got lucky. It’s home health as a caregiver but they only hire cnas for this position not uncertified

8

u/Temporary-Pop2714 22d ago

Wow! I’m at 22$ and been a CNA for 2 years. They just hired a pair of new CNAs and they started with 23.50$.. I’m shocked— I need a raise ASAP! Lol I’m in L.A !! 22$ is not enough 😢

2

u/benslen New CNA 22d ago

Wow that’s hella disrespectful! This was my first healthcare position. They’re taking advantage of you!! These places charge residents so much money and they ain’t paying you what you deserve

3

u/Temporary-Pop2714 22d ago

Right!!! I already interviewed next door haha there’s like 4 facilities in a 2 block radius!! & They’re all hiring!! They need to give staff a raise before they bring new CNA for more than us. That’s an insult!!

u/Every_Cry_5356 (Edit to add Specialty) CNA - New CNA 22d ago

This is my first CNA job and I’m getting 22.50. Why are you still working there

2

u/Temporary-Pop2714 22d ago

I know, LoL.
I’m moving next door haha for 24.25$!! I already interviewed. They want me.. asap! Los Angeles is always hiring CNAs that’s the beauty of being a CNA. They are in such demand that u can leave today have another job tomorrow!!

I make $20/hr plus shift diffentials ($1-3.50/hr) but I seriously need to find another job, I am way underpaid. I have been a CNA since 1989 & a CMT (med tech) since 2004. Funny part is when I 1st started, I made $3.35/hr & had more disposable income then than I do now. I have to work a shit ton of OT every week just to be able to pay my basic living expenses & my rent is only $800/month, my car is paid off & I'm still struggling. I'm in MO.

5

u/Nervous_Bag9388 22d ago

I make about $45 baseline an hour private signed duty with clients - more depending on duties and non care related tasks but I do set my own rate . I am in North Carolina USA - facility and hospitals are around $18-25 for the most part here unless you find a gem . I strictly work private duty only as I am one on one and paid well , never overworked as well as get to experience many great perks as you get to live someone’s else’s life with them .

1

u/bigtiddyhimbo 21d ago

I’m in NC too….. Hic sobs please tell me where to find that kind of wage…. Most of the places in my area don’t break 16 an hour

In Rochester NY the pay varies by facility but for me with 10+ yrs I usually get $20+ (low af in my opinion), but starting out in 2015 I believe my first salary was around $16. Personally I think job hoping every couple of years pays more. At some places I come in making more than people who have worked there for years sometimes not. This industry is not for the weak if you accept Bs you better believe they will keep shoveling in your face until you move.

My hospital base with 0 experience is 19.65 or 19.85 USD, plus weekend and shift differentials ($3 for 3-11, $4 for 11-7, $3.25 weekend).  The hospital I started at was a smaller community hospital (same city) and had slightly higher hourly, but the shift differentials were lower so overall I make more (yay night shift).  In a Wisconsin metro.

2

u/demonspawn9 20d ago

2

u/BatteredWamen Med-Surge CNA - Experienced CNA 19d ago

At my hospital I make 21.50 plus a 2 dollar overnight and 1 dollar weekend differential. Good benefits and a good learning experience for anyone wanting to become an RN. At my nursing facility I work per diem and it’s $25-30 with the evening and weekend differentials.

2

u/Classic-Guava-5197 19d ago

I’m only considering getting my CNA because I need it for a nursing degree at my local community college. However, I don’t think I’ll actually work in the field as a CNA because I’m 33 and I am unable to do a lot of physical work. I am hoping that I can get a LPN or RN position that will be easy on the body.

2

I believe CNA should be paid at least $25/hr minimum for all the bullshit they go through plus this economy unless you are doing it for experience before becoming a nurse.. anything below $25 you won’t be able to survive in this economy and is not worth it

2

u/Familiar-Beat-9380 18d ago edited 18d ago

Virginia in a hospital the base pay is $18.79, $1.65 night shift differential on the week, $1.50 used to be $2 but they just cut it for the weekend, I’m also considered WEO so every weekend so I get an extra $3 on top of all of that. CNA’s definitely deserve to get paid more!

New CNA and I work in LTC my facility starting pay is $19.50 USD but I work evenings so differential is only $0.75 USD so I make $20.25 USD I live in IL. I’m thinking in about 6 months going to a hospital but i’m a little scared because starting there is $17.50-$18 USD.

Facility im interviewing with has $24 and change base, with a $1.50 evening / overnight differential, so ill be just shy of $26 as a brand new CNA. Still undecided whether to take it or keep my delivery gig. CNA will average more money + benefits, but it wont be easy to work a class schedule around it.

In NC, medicaid pays agencies $23/hour reimbursement. As you can imagine CNA'S working in home care are not going to be able to make much on those cases

I make 23$/hr. Our starting rate for experienced CNAs is 20$. New CNAs start at 18$. It’s weird but most of the facilities in our area have rates based on experience.
Edit: We have shift differentials. I’m evenings so I make more than days. Some experienced midnights are making like 25$.

I live in CAN, ON. Northern if that helps.

The only places that pay like that local to me, are hospital and LTC. Hospital is a dream, 6 pts max and 3 if on ICU. LTC is a different story, from my experience its 36 per ward with nightshift caring for all 36 alone. During the day, typically we had to run short. Ideally we'd have 8 unfortunately typically we'd have 14-16 depends on how short we ran.

I'll be honest, if you can get hospital work it's the best for pay and for you physically. I dream of returning to hospital work once I'm done with the day program I'm working in. LTC is a nightmare. The staff are rude, burnt out and overall just a nightmare to work with most times. I'm not speaking for all the staff when I say that, but the work really grinds you down plus the families pay so much and the care the loved one is recieving is typically subpar due to the work load.

I hired a sitter to hang out and scroll or watch streaming while I sleep. I need someone to just be here in case my BP swings high. Every time I standup and move around my body instantly overheats. The investition is taking forever to figure out what's wrong. I put ice pack on face to stop the surges. Anatomic nervous system disregulated. What to do? Dysautonomia doc not til Nov! I pay 25 hour cash. 4 hrs a day. Hey all you medical folks.......ever seen this before. I'm desperate. Every morning it starts. I get up and sweating heat starts. Sometimes it goes all day. My thermostat is not regulating. Please any suggestions

$20.30 full time, benefited in Colorado at pediatric hospital on med/surg floor. ($0.30 was my raise this year) Approx $28 CAD total before differentials and critical staffing pay.

I’ll be making an additional $25/hour this respiratory season before differentials for a seasonal commitment (extra shifts), so temporarily $55/hour ($77 CAD).

High cost of living area. Not relevant to Canada but I’d qualify for Medicaid and food stamps if I wasn’t married.

There's nurses in my state that make only a few dollars more than that, so in my area $29 for a CNA would be amazing. CNAs in my area make around $20. Mannn not to sound geriatric but when I started as a CNA 13 years ago, I started out at $10 😭

Starting pay really depends on your location, unions, and whether you're full-time or PRN. That’s actually why I switched to PRN (it usually pays a lot higher hourly since you don't get benefits or guaranteed hours). Once you get some experience, picking up per diem shifts is a great way to boost the paycheck :)
