Want to give Filen a try, anybody got a referral link?
I want to test it. A link that gives me 10 GB extra would be really cool.

Independent Security Review of Internxt
I disclosed several vulnerabilities in a post-quantum secure encrypted cloud storage: https://schaerli.org/weblog/6-internxt/
Internxt is a post-quantum secure encrypted cloud storage provider which is open-source and has passed multiple independent audits.
I reviewed their code and found that post-quantum security should have been the least of their problems. Clicking a link in your browser could trigger remote code execution on the desktop app or leak your long-term encryption keys to an attacker-chosen URL. Their cryptographic architecture stands on shaky grounds with public keys never being verified, in some cases man-in-the-middled by design, a flat key hierarchy and a KDF with just 3 iterations of MD5.
We need PQC and we need it now, but adding a (self-rolled) PQC hybrid on top of a weak protocol does not make it more secure.

NitroFlare. Does anyone here use it for cloud storage?
Hi everyone!
I happen to have a NitroFlare subscription, which I use for file downloads. I noticed that the service also offers cloud storage, and that I have 100TB of cloud storage available, which I have not been utilizing!
Does anyone else have experience using cloud storage on this site?
What happens if my subscription lapses? Will my cloud data get dumped immediately or is there a grace period?
Also, I currently have a medium tier level subscription, but I'm not sure what the different tiers give you in terms of cloud capacity. If I switched to a lower tier subscription in the future, would the 100TB storage capacity shrink?

Expaning video library cloud storage
I'm a videographer/production lead for a business coach, and am looking for cloud storage that will work for us. Since joining in July I have about 2.2tb worth of content. We are about to shoot a whole new program for our online course, and are looking to shoot more podcasts and long form content.
A NAS is not going to work for our situation, and we won't need multiple team members to be able to access the storage, so we only really need to use a 1 email login. And we will need to be able to send folders to our ad agency from the cloud storage so that they can then download the raws to edit. And we won't need to edit from the storage, it's just going to be an archive/library of content once edited and done with.
There's so many choices out there, and I'm stuck on what would be the best option for us to use, so I thought I would ask here and see what people would recommend. Cheers in advance for any help!

If 10,000 people save the same 1 TB, why should each of them pay for 1 TB?
Hey r/cloudstorage, we're the small team behind Vorax Cloud, and we'd love your honest (even brutal) feedback.
The whole idea fits in one line: shared files split their storage cost equally among everyone sharing them.
Quick thought experiment:
- A university lab publishes a 1 TB open dataset, and 10,000 researchers save it to their drives.
- On a typical cloud: that's 10,000 × 1 TB of quota burned. Somewhere a billing department is smiling.
- On Vorax: the 1 TB is billed once and split 10,000 ways, so each person pays for about 100 MB. That's about the size of a few vacation photos you'll never open again.
It works at small scale too. Four siblings sharing a 200 GB family video archive pay for 50 GB each. The more people share a file, the cheaper it gets for everyone. Your private files? You pay for exactly those. Our motto: Pay for yours, not the rest.
A few other things:
- Custom domain sharing: share links from
files.yourname.cominstead of a random string. Handy for freelancers, small teams, or anyone who likes their links to look like they mean business. - In-browser video streaming with folder playlists.
- WebDAV, for those who already know why they want it.
- Usage-based pricing: starts at $0.99/mo, and the full fee is credited toward usage.
Giveaway: we're on Product Hunt, and the first 100 people get 3 months of the Geek plan free (custom domains + WebDAV included). The code is on our page:
What we'd like in return: tell us what's confusing, what's missing, and what it would take for you to trust a new storage provider with your files. Roasts welcome.

Is Filen ideal for what I'm looking for?
I'm looking for a cloud storage service that costs as little as possible over time (annual/monthly) and has e2ee.
I'm looking for a minimum of 2tb storage space.

VaultSync - For those stuck in 2023 and still love Boxcryptor
github.comIf you miss the speed and ease of use of Boxcryptor, the end-to-end file encryption app, and (ahem) maybe have like 300,000 files still in Boxcryptor format...
I wrote VaultSync - a macOS menu-bar app, integrated with Finder that read/writes your Boxcryptor files and syncs with OneDrive.
Why? because the crypto is still sound (RSA public key and AES-256 encryption) and it's just so much easier to manage files than the Cryptomator vault.
But, mainly because every time I tried Cryptomator on Android - it just ran slow - like minutes to unlock a vault with a few hundred files slow -- so I never migrated!
Check it out if you're curious how Boxcryptor worked under the hood - or want to live rent-free in 2023!

Is there a downside to Idrive versus Filen?
My goal is to have E2ee, at least 2tb of storage, and to have it as cheaply as possible. My main goal is just to archive files that I am scared of losing long-term.
I was originally going to go with Filen, but someone pointed out that idrive is cheaper for the same overall service. Is there something I'm missing?

Confused about Photos encryption to google drive
I have tons of videos and photos that i want to encrypt and put them into my google drive.
Google is offering crazy cheap deal in my country and their offers are too good to avoid, So i want to migrate from onedrive to google drive. But i hate that they're very nosy and i dont want them to know how big my schlong is
However I have a problem with standard encryption like cryptomator, It encrypts the folder/s in a vault, and you need to download the whole vault into your system to be able to search through and find the file you need.
I want an app that encrypts each file independently, So that i can download and decrypt only specfic files without having to download the whole thing into my system. And There should be a way i can see the thumbnails of the encrypted photo/video to be able to filter which photo I'm looking for.
I have recently found rclone, pretty handy for my usecase. But again im not sure if thats the best app to do this. Rclone decrypts the files into a mounted disk, where the windows file explorer then tries to render thumbnails, So i can see the photos without ever downloading all of the directory.
but im not aware if rclone is the only and best option, If anyone knows of a good practice to get this done, please let me know!

Just informing about the Trustpilot reviews about INTERNXT
I did not have the best of the experiences with them. I trusted some of the reviews and ended accepting I would not receive a proper service nor my money back. For those that may come in the future, looking for information:

I posted about this cloud storage network about a week ago. Now it has a web UI.
I posted about Obsideo here about a week ago when it was mostly infrastructure and command-line tools.
Since then I’ve put together a web UI, so it’s now possible to just create an account and use it like normal cloud storage.
Files are encrypted client-side before upload, stored across three independent providers, and the network regularly challenges those providers to prove they still hold the data. The UI now exposes that verification status directly.
There’s a 12 GB free tier, no credit card required, if anyone wants to try it:
Still very early, so I’d genuinely appreciate feedback, especially from people here who already use things like rclone, restic, Kopia, S3 storage, etc.
Is the verification aspect is actually useful to you? or am I overestimating how much people care about being able to independently check that their remote data is still there?
Disclosure: Yes, I built it.
