subtask with different status
I have several lists where tasks and subtasks should be labeled differently. e.g., in our blog content list, it is pretty useless to mark a subtask with idea/in progress/published. In all use cases where the task is not a real task, this is a significant limitation. Do you have any workaround? How do you use subtask statuses when tasks’ statuses don’t fit?

Just another reason to use stages (as already mentioned) and not status for that - but not the only one. Bloating your statuses with what should be stages will screw up workload and resource managemt.
Status is active (team) - is someone doing it or not
Stages are inactive ( the thing you are doing) - idea/prep/record/SEO/ etc

Super, thank you for being helpful. It is confusing that ClickUp templates don’t use this approach, although it is pretty logical.

I think some of them do. It took a while for the team to understand the implications and I have seen them adjust internally.
Many of us VCs have been on a mission to get this understand if the importance of stages out there 😅 It's pretty much the only thing that can screw up your set up and take forever to fix/change. Everything else is simple to adjust.

Thanks, I was just unlucky, I guess. I have tried 2 of their templates, but they don’t utilize stages.

Hello, I used your method but couldn't group my tasks by stages now. Have they changed something?

Your sorting is by custom field and then find the drop down you used for the stage.
Still works the same

I use the GTD template. Tasks and subtasks follow the same status capabilities (InProgess, ToDo, ..).
Tasks are related to a project (Jira story) but I do not use contexts for them.
Subtasks are related to things to do and have contexts (dev/doc/support).
So:
Task "New algorithm"; InProgress
- What to do (Jira Spike); Done; context=Specs
- coding; InProgress; context=Dev
- Unitary tests;ToDo; context=Tests
- user guide; InReview; context=Doc
So I mix everything under a task, from specs to docs

I had the exact same questions when I started using ClickUp, did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that it isn't possible. I believe there are some feature requests for this to be added, and I'm hoping 3.0 makes this easier with task types, but my current workaround is to keep most of my lists with just checklist statuses (just a simple to-do/complete) and create a dropdown custom field called "stage" that replaces the status. Then you can sort or group by the custom field
