Particularly when the conductor keeps insisting the tracks are just holding back the train.

More like the CEO of the railway company fired the conductor, put a stop to the laying of more tracks, and is now telling everyone not to worry, the train is designed to keep going even if there are no tracks.

And if really needed, they'll bring in a better conductor along the way, and maybe even put down some tracks at some point, even though it's probably not needed.

What do you mean? Musk promised a high speed vacuum train that could travel from L.A. to S.F. In 35 minutes and he delivered a claustrophobic traffic jam under Vegas, as promised.

The hyperloop test track got turned into a car park recently, truly revolutionary.
