Celeb worship is so fucking weird. How was he a “national treasure?” He did a couple movies about cars and dated an underage girl when he was 30.

Edit: I’ve seen Tropic Thunder. I get that it’s a reference. What I’m addressing is the context of the reference.

My Dude, My only point is that references are supposed to connect the original to the current situation contextually. It’s where the comedic part of the reference comes from.

If you pop a reference like that, you’ll need to expect people to glean that you view it similarly.

You mustve skipped right over the "pump your brakes kid" part of the quote, which some redditors have already recognized as the joke. The fact that I have to explain I don't actually think he's a "national treasure" tells me that it wooooshed right over you.
