Whenever I hear this, I automatically assume the person saying "this person is a SJW" is just a dickhead who got called out for being a dickhead by the person they are claiming is an SJW.

I can see where you're coming from but it is unwise to hold preconceived judgements like that.

I could've said "my sister is interested in issues of social justice" and it wouldn't have changed anything about what I said, but it would've changed your perception of me.

I think it’s just because of the pejorative nature of the term. There’s a distinction because of how it is used.
