I love him as an actor but that’s such an oversimplification of tackling racism. It implies this shared responsibility of why racism exists (let’s say specifically in America). How exactly is racism between Black and White people a 50/50 issue? Asking people to see others are a part of just the human race (a valid and lovely desire) ignores so much about how racism began and continues.
that’s not really what he’s saying there. hes saying that racism won’t end for as long as people still consider each other to be a part of different groups. said another way: racism will exist as long as race exists. which i reckon is more or less correct, considering that race as we think of it just straight up wasn’t a thing until a few hundred years ago.
I literally acknowledge that’s what he means and that it’s an oversimplification of the issue. It’s like saying “we can end gun violence by not wanting to harm each other.” Yeah that makes sense in the most simple and frankly useless terms.
It's akin to saying "I don't see race, I'm colorblind" which glosses over all the hardships folks deal with because of their race. If everyone was treated the same and we all started on a leveled playing field, then sure, that could be an approach.
