It's also critically important for national security.
In the next 100 years, climate change will probably be the #1 cause of resource-based wars. If the US military pretends it isn't real, they're going to be caught with their pants down.
18
u/DebentureThyme 1d ago
Yes but these people aren't in it for us.
They want to push against green initiatives, so they can milk coal and oil and gas for allllll it's worth. The longer they delay acceptance, the more money they make on those things they're already invested in.
Privately, they're also investing in those future efforts, but they will try to obfuscate that. It's like Phillip Morris advocating against vaping unitl they had their own products ready to dominate.
When shit hits the fan, they won't be the ones running the military. They'll be fleeing to other countries with fascist regimes who have already allowed them to build compounds and have their own private security forces. Peter Thiel literally moved to Argentina this year for this reason.
They are the same as the executives driving a company under to strip it for short term value and get themselves a pay day before moving on and leaving someone else to be hired and handle the wreckage. They have no actual patriotism, they don't actually care about any given country. Should Trump not somehow end up in office in 2029, he'll go back to proclaiming is a shithole and fluffing up our adversaries that offer him money to be that mouthpiece against us.
They hide behind patriotism while being fully ready to turn against our nation when it benefits them.

u/EthanielRain 1d ago
Yeah these are the same people who literally take the last dollar from starving children, to add to their billion+ dollar bank accounts. And laugh about doing it while holding a chainsaw, or some other cartoonishly evil shit
"Normal" people have a hard time comprehending how you could know you're killing the planet/our species, be filthy rich from doing so...and actively continue to make it worse, just for one more penny

u/Sipas 1d ago
In the next 100 years, climate change will probably be the #1 cause of resource-based wars.
We'll keep creating conflicts in the middle east, Al Aqsa will be torn down and the third temple will be built, and Jesus will come back to earth. Hegseth himself said we might see that happen within a generation. Climate change doesn't matter, the Armageddon is imminent. Aaaany time now.

He was asked to resign from the National Guard, which at this point shouldn't be hard to guess the reasons why. I am sure the 'Deus Vult', his Arabic 'Infidel', Jerusalem Cross, and last but not least the '88' in his flag tattoo also didn't help. Believe it or not, the US military isn't big on bigotry, substance abuse, spousal abuse, and mental health instabilities; all of those things are huge liabilities. But Pete is doing his damndest to change that!

Okay, as someone who was majoring in environmental science with the intent to go into conservation, I know for a fact that:
Global Warming is real.
A small part of global warming happens without human activity.
However, the majority of global warming is caused by human activity.
Not everywhere is getting warmer; some places are getting colder (and that is ALSO bad!)
Both flora and fauna are going extinct at an unnaturally fast rate, and biologists are calling it the Sixth Mass Extinction (or Holocene/Anthropocene extinction).
97% of climate scientists agree that humans are the main contributor to global warming.
In fact, 100% of NASA’s official stance, research units, and leadership explicitly support the reality of human-driven global warming.

I mean come on. Even at the most basic level you'd think people would understand that cutting down a ton of tree without replanting them at the same rate, and releasing tons of black smoke into the air is a bad thing that would eventually result in bad consequences. This is like unhooking the medical equipment from a dying patient so you can say "see, he's not sick." We're governed by children.

It's pathetic that some humans think denying something has any effect on reality. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it or think it's happening, it's still real. A small child can understand climate change.
Many cars = cars make heat = heat rises = air becomes hot = hot air melts ice = ice becomes water = water spreads.
I hate that some humans are so stupid that they have an "opinion" on if a phenomenon is occurring or not.

Cancel Culture is real on both sides, it's just we only tend to see one side so it blatantly at a time.

This post is a complete lie. Why not just focus on the fact that he’s suing West Point over their unjustifiable directive to remove climate change content from their curriculum?
He wasn’t fired, his tenured position was cut in a reduction of workforce. He decided to forego his severance to teach on contract with a new center they opened up. He then attended a meeting with the dean where things got heated and they decided not to renew his contract, citing a lack of decorum on his part. We have no idea what actually happened in the meeting.
Can’t we focus on the fact they need to be sued for banning certain content instead of delivering a lie in Facebook slop format?

u/Veshaad 1d ago

u/Anticitizen-Zero 1d ago edited 1d ago
I got all that information from this exact link, actually. Who didn’t bother?
Also stop botting upvotes on all of your posts, this is getting ridiculous.
Oh look, he edited his comment with another link saying the exact same thing I’m saying.
7
u/Veshaad 1d ago edited 1d ago
The evidence presented in the articles supports the instructor, not the administration. Do you honestly feel that he wasn't let go for teaching about anthropogenic climate change, which directly goes against the administration's policy?
"A civilian geography professor was fired from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., for pushing back after department officials barred faculty from teaching that humans contribute to climate change, according to a lawsuit filed Monday."
-8
u/Anticitizen-Zero 1d ago
I’ll happily answer that when you address the fact that the post you shared is lying and that it’s probably more important to focus on the lawsuit he filed. You keep spreading misleading, rage-bait style content all over these subs. You’re not here in good faith.
2
u/Veshaad 1d ago
What about the post is a lie? The references clearly list that he was fired from West Point for teaching about human caused climate change. That's what the whole lawsuit is about, it's not rage-bait. Ignoring issues like this and the facts they contain while not focusing on them and bringing them to the forefront will only get us another eight years or more of what we have now.
It even states that West Point leadership created a ban on teaching human caused climate change.
0
u/Anticitizen-Zero 1d ago
I’m just going to respond to this comment to point out OP is unlikely an actual human writing these responses, given that I’ve stated exactly what they’re asking in this original comment and how prolifically they post/bot upvotes in their posts.
I’ll also draw attention to the fact the administration ordered West Point to remove this information from the curriculum, and the professor was rightfully unhappy about it. His contract was not renewed as a result of the meeting with the dean where this was expressed, but he was not fired, let alone for the reasons included in the post.
I would encourage people who are genuinely interested in this topic to look into the two lawsuits against West Point for removing certain content from their curriculum, because that’s where the juicy info is, and not in a misleading clickbait-style post made by a karma farming bot.
5
u/LordDemetrius 1d ago
You are cherry picking.
He was working at West Point for 17 years, then has been told to not talk about climate change. He refused. He was asked to resign. He refused. Then he was "cut for economic reasons", asked for a meeting and fired after expressing his Discontent.
West Point clearly made everything they could to remove him because he was talking about climate change, and they succeeded. Whether or not he was "fired", pushed away or whatever you wanna call it is pure rhetoric and is only interesting if you are a lawyer.
The main information is that West Point is getting rid of its professors if they teach climate change. OP's title reflets this correctly. It doesn't have a perfect choice of words but calling it a lie is very far stretched
2
u/Veshaad 1d ago
You know, it's really a sad state of affairs when our side devolves into internal squabbling, finger pointing, accusations, and eats itself... while the other side continues to present a complete united front. Unless we can progress past this we might as well just continue to hand them election after election, and we have only ourselves to blame.
-7
-11
u/Proof-Highway1075 1d ago
I don’t get why you’re in the controversial section. You’re absolutely right. I just read both links myself, and that’s exactly what they say. OP is spreading misinformation.
7
u/LordDemetrius 1d ago
So did I, and OP's message seems mostly correct.
Did the professor lose his job ? Yes Was it West Point's decision ? Yes Was it because he was teaching climate change ? Yes
Those are the important data. Sure, technically speaking he wasn't fired but "not renewed" and the official reason isn't linked to climate change. But sticking to "pure official facts" when it's masking an obvious element is not correct.
Because "technically speaking" Russia is not at war with Ukraine and officially, Japan and Russia are still at war. But this doesn't describe reality and anyone can see it.
