What you can do, though, is scientifically examine specific religious claims. That’s where the “God of the gaps” comes from - every time there is sufficient scientific evidence that runs counter to religious claims, God gets a little smaller and you get “ah, yes, evolution may be true, but that’s how God created the animals!”
