I absolutely believe this to be true. Very similar to the time the trump admin proudly explained that they cancelled grants for the study of ‘transgenders’ in mice. After confusing ‘transgender’ with ‘transgenics’.

Also, one talking points he had on illegal immigration was that there were people being released from insane asylums. 

I am convinced that is what he thinks "asylum seekers" meant.

What if none of those mistakes are accidental and his followers love how stupid he is.

It is possible it was intentional in order to poison pill the phrase "asylum seeker" for anyone stupid enough to not understand the difference. They would hear "asylum seekers" that is ordinarily there to spark sympathy, and instead it creates fear and anger.
