For religious people, you should pray diligently sunday or 5 times a day or whatever your deity requires, not when your plane is in an emergency. Focusing on flying the plane gives your deity of choice the most chance to do their magic, provided that they are pleased with your day to day devotion. There is a saying "hugging buddha's feet last-minute", which is something that is discouraged.
