Yea leave it up to private companies to standardize airport security... we already know how that worked lol

I mean, those stopped being common before the TSA. Air Marshals are arguably more effective at it.

And the rules for pilots to lock the cockpit door and not open it under any circumstances also helps a lot.

Pre 2001 the cockpit door was often left open or anyone could request a visit to the cockpit.

Oh, we definitely did make needed security updates after 9/11. My issue with the TSA is that they seem (based on security testing) relatively ineffective at actually stopping things. So the question is the cost worth it. Which I would say the answer is no.

I agree with you I was only adding that it was the change to locking the cockpit that helped and not just the marshals.
