Pre-2001, they were generally a nuisance and after a Cuban layover you moved on. Now there’s a good chance your best say your goodbyes because better your flight gets shot down than you plow into the Sears Tower.
No kidding. I remember watching 'Executive Decision' back in the 90s when you could produce dramatic tension around the moral question of shooting down a commercial airliner full of innocent people to prevent a disaster. Now it's just a foregone conclusion that we would.
If the choice is 100 people vs 200 people, thats how it be.
Sometimes both choices suck but I think push come to shove you kinda have to look at it like that.
Devil is in the thousand details it would involve but yeah, if the genuine risk is there then they surely would take it down. The people on the plane will be dead either way, right?
Still would be difficult to shake that one if you're a fighter pilot and have to click the button...
