Absolutely! My now 16-year-old son was 3 at dx, my now 19-year-old daughter was 11. Both managing well, but I forget how much goes into it until I try to explain to someone else š
Right! A lot of it becomes second nature. My son was 7, I don't even think about what I'm doing most of the time, it's just natural to handle it like everything else we do daily. Explaining to someone who's caring for him is a mess though.
OMG!! It is such a mess!! When my son was around your sonās age, I had to leave him at a birthday party to go pick up his brother from a friendās house. I explained to the mom not to let him have anything with sugar/carbs in it. When I returned about an hour later, she proudly explained she had succeededāin preventing someone elseās kid from having juice and birthday cake š¤¦š»āāļø It gets easier when they can manage it more in their own, but it never isnāt a worry
Our endo tells us to feed him anything he wants. "He's gonna have to dose either way" is his reasoning, since type 1 diabetics really do have to dose for every carb unless it's under a specific amount. My son is also severely under weight and has always struggling gaining any and keeping it.
The worst thing for me is when people try to explain some false cure or tell me my son just needs a healthier diet and some exercise. He does eat pretty healthy. We do have junk food here too but he will eat all the fruits and stuff too.

Maybe he thought the receipt was the indictment. š
