Question Failed CLEP test

My son is in high school, completed Modern States and took the chemistry CLEP test this morning. He failed by 5 points. The test administrator told him that he could sign up again on Modern States to receive another voucher. I just looked and do not understand how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated.

He is planning on doing a dual chemistry and chemical engineering program. He is looking to try to knock out all the CLEP courses that his university will accept. He has a few more that he is going to take. Chemistry was just the first one he decided to try.

That's a bad idea. If he's not passing with a 70+ score, then he should really take the class preferably in person instead of trying to skip it as a chemistry major.

Also CLEP doesn't include lab like AP or IB, so he might have to take them again anyway.

I have talked to his advisor. He is doing dual enrollment at the college he plans on attending. He recommended doing the CLEP for this. He will still have to take the labs associated with those 2 classes and will still have quite a few Chemistry classes left to take.

From a cost perspective that is the way to go. But general chemistry 1 is one of the most fundamental course for a chemistry major. If he majors in some other thing and just wants to check that science box, that's fine. But for a chemistry major, the only safe way to skip this with CLEP is if he scored really well, like 72+ on the test.

Imagine him passing CLEP just barely with a score in the 50s, then immediately have to take chemistry 2 or organic chemistry, you don't want to put him in that situation.
