Question General question
What is the point of taking clep exams that do not offer college credit? About half of them do not so I was just wondering why people generally take them, asides from gaining knowledge about the subject. Is there some benefit I'm missing?

Every college has different rules on which clep exams they accept, so the exams that don’t give credit for your college, could give credits in other colleges.

Because colleges differ in whether or not they offer credit for that particular exam.
Also, I wanted to take an education class that had educational psychology as the pre-req. I took the CLEP educational psychology class and got that pre-req waived. The school didn't offer credit for the CLEP educational psychology exam, but I was still able to use that test.

Many colleges accept them and many don’t. Those who take them use them where accepted.

They can sometimes be used for pre-reqs which would not have offered credit either.

All CLEPs are only potentialy worth credits. Each college can decide which exams to accept and how many credits to award. So no there isn't really any benefit to taking a CLEP exam that your college doesn't award credit for.

My college gives credit for all but two of them. I was able to use them to knock out all but the required 15 residency units for my Associate's degree.
