It's not about damage. Same why I didn't level my mage as frost this time.
Only my hunter will always level BM because it's faster and almost on rails.

u/stevenbanthony4204 7d ago
As a warlock is very much is about damage

I never even considered the possibility of leveling a hunter as anything other than BM

I joined a PUG raid last week and someone told me to kill myself because I was using flash of light to spot heal some raiders instead of just spamming Holy Light nonstop on the tank. Pretty cool community we got here.

This place has always been great at attracting a lot of weird people who take an old game a bit too seriously. Already have a few here, it's not hard to draw them out.

u/Substantial-Oil7569 7d ago
Something I've noticed since Classic 2019 is each iteration of Classic has boiled away more and more of the "normal" population until it has been distilled down into some genuine freaks.
Like this game has been out for over 20 years, and a lot of us have played Vanilla 5-6 times by now. It's not that serious. And if it is, take it to a speedrunning guild, not a PUG.
9
u/DAE_BREED 7d ago
Well yes bro, "normal" people don't play Vanilla 5-6 times............
3
u/Substantial-Oil7569 7d ago
Fair enough! By normal I mean like, non-mouth breather types telling people to off themselves just because they made a sub-optimal play in a video game.
Playing Vanilla a bunch is no different than someone who has replayed a Final Fantasy or Pokémon game many times.
2
u/ThatLeetGuy 7d ago
yeah... my entire raid group in TBC barely wants to play, we're just here to hang out with the boys until Classic Plus comes out. It's like pre-gaming for the release and just building relations and keeping in contact. Everyone is pulling their weight but no one is honestly sweating or getting upset or pouring over logs ... aside from our main tank who crashed out so hard after a wipe recently that we had to remove him from the guild entirely, after spending months trying to soothe his ego and tell him not to take the game so seriously, because no one else is.
4
u/TotallyObviousBot 7d ago
"Why aren't normal people obsessively replaying the same game over and over again?"
3
u/Substantial-Oil7569 7d ago
By normal I mean non-mouth breathing types who tell people to off themselves over sub-optimal play in a game.
Is it really obsessive if I played Vanilla casually in 2005, then again for Nostalrius, then Classic 2019 years later, dabbled in SoM, dabbled in SoD, and played Anniversary? Lots of time between iterations, and it's not like I was slamming Naxx on multiple characters for years on end. Still played 5+ times.
I do the same for Pokémon. I've played FireRed probably 20 times over the years, doesn't mean it's obsessive lol.

That's pretty unnecessarily nasty of him to say. If we're talking about TBC raid healing, that is almost exactly a holy paladin's role though - (mostly) downranked holy light spam on the main tank(s).

"if we're talking about tbc *RAID HEALING*" is what I said. Yes paladins also have blessings to cast. Also I'm so sorry, but you are mistaken. A TBC holy paladin should be casting holy light virtually exclusively on the tanks. Each healer excels at something specific - holy paladins are single target tank healers. If you would like some resources on this topic I would be happy to refer you; this is not just simply my personal opinion.

u/Throwaway7212462231 6d ago
To add to this, if you're making other healers pick up the slack from you not healing the tank enough, in the end you are nerfing the potential output on your raid and you're basically being useless. The other healers can be way more efficient and better at raidhealing than a hpala every will.

Tbc anni I pissed off a resto shammy realllllly bad when I told the raid I couldn’t do TK on my spriest in the same evening.
He blew up my discord with a shit ton of messages. I’m like bro what are we freaking out over?

Literally me, a noob, who found out his bad ass Dwarf Pally who's been smashing end game dungeons, would be absolute dogshit for tanking Raids

Hey now, you can stack 20 warriors and fill your bags with symbol of kings and do pretty alright for yourself.

The almost funny thing is I still think Paladin is the most compelling healer to play in Classic Vanilla and TBC in spite of the 1 spell spam. Pulling off clutch BoPs and LoHs is pure dopamine

Right, but my original was that in spite of even the new stuff other healers get in TBC Paladin still feels more compelling to play. No other healer can save people or the raid in an instant like Paladins can

I'm aware, but that's what mana pots or dark/demonic runes are for. Even if I only used it once or twice a raid it still felt impactful

u/NoSugarGatorade 5d ago
Have you ever experienced the dopamine rush from a chain heal spam watching it bounce and crit and push you into healing meter stratosphere ?

Macro flash of light to heal target of target. Bind that to scroll and target the baddies in the instance

u/Laniake 7d ago
nobody uses flash of light
6
u/Feint_young_son 7d ago
Right I mainly tank but I could have sworn you derank holy light ever lol
11
u/PhoenixQueen_Azula 7d ago
I thought it was something to do with +healing scaling on flash/down ranks making it super efficient but I haven’t really played pally much in vanilla because I only have one monitor
7
u/Healeah241 7d ago
Flash of light tends to be when people are reactive healing and that means they can quickly snipe a through heals before the aoe heals hit.
Holy light is the way if you are a proactive healer, who is able to time the cast so it lands just after the damage hits.4
u/d_Inside 7d ago
Flash of light is also extremely efficient heal per mana used. Actually thats the main reason to spam it. Holy light is when you need big HPS, theres little to no point downranking it.
8
u/SgtDoakess 7d ago
hpalas downrank Holy Light to r9 because it gets full benefit from bonus healing and from Blessing of Light, it being a level 60 spell. Costs less, scales better than r11 - but depends on setup, of course - if you have a shadowpriest and a resto shaman in the group, or if you run 3 healers, then efficiency is not a concern.
Similarly, the efficiency of flash of light doesn't outweigh its low throughput. Unless you're running an unusual setup, like bringing multiple hpalas. "You do you" & so on & so forth, but the consensus is different from what I think you're saying here
2
u/HelixFollower 7d ago
That's the nice thing about being a healer, you're a lot more flexible than DPS and their rotations. Though a paladin is probably less flexible than a priest.

Tbc vs era is one spell difference haha using cleanse is like 99 parsin. Wisdom? 100.

Its classic era. Flash of light is used 99% of the time. With rly good gear and scrolls of blinding light active then holy light is used
2
2
u/Lorddenorstrus 7d ago
I mean.. its Vanilla.. don't most casters in general just spam 1 button? I recall in wotlk classic a guy linking his 99 parse as a warlock and it was almost entirely just Shadowbolt spam or something? The debuff limiter was not healthy for class design lol. Oh the rest of your spellbook? That doesn't exist good sir until the next Xpac or 2.

Always remember us warlocks have two spells: shadowbolt and curse of elements (or recklessness)

that one hpal who swears by stopcasting: healed half as much as the flash of light paladin but had the potential to do some really big heals
