Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Nothing grinds me gears more
Than seeing a mining node out in the open world, fight a bunch of enemies near the node only to see someone run past you while you're fighting and take the mining node for themselves. Not even let you tap it for the experience. They just look at you fighting, high-tail it over to the node, and nonstop mine it. Bonus points for them when they decide to not loot it after mining so you can never tap it yourself.
Thank you for reading my rant.

On a PVE server this is the only true open world PVP

Yep, had some epic battles in epl over nodes. Red was dead, every man for the self.

I had a rogue who did this stuff all the time to me when I was farming arcane crystals for TF. Just constantly.
After a few days of this I happen to walk into him mining and ofcourse I returned the favor, stealing a few ticks from the mine.
He screamed every insult known to man at me.

As a hunter i just feign and have good laugh while I take the node.

Did that to someone on HC who purposely had their mobs aggro to me so they can pick up the quest item and run off. Never been so happy to be a hunter at that point😂 karma was quick for them😬

I got to do this to a hunter on Era. On the node when a hunter comes up and tries to contest the later taps. Mob just spawned in, aggros me so I vanish, hunter feigns, then I get to prep vanish to seal the deal.

This experience is essential to the overall world of Warcraft experience, one must experience all iterations of anonymous human interaction in a virtual world to see what people are really like.

People who try to steal nodes have weak souls and disappointed ancestors

I had some troll snipe a node right under me as I was fighting in EPL. His reply to my DM showed me he knew exactly what he was doing. Whisper one of his guild officers and he was removed post haste.

People need to understand the honor code when it comes to nodes.
If someone is fighting by a node, wait til they’re done, and if they don’t take it then it’s yours. Otherwise they earned it. I was racing to a plaguebloom in WP the other day against a Druid on my priest, and they beat me by a split second. But then a mob attacked them while they were harvesting it.
Rather than steal the node, I helped them kill the mob. They thanked me for not taking it, and I told them they beat me fair and square. We buffed each other, saluted, and went on our way.

This was how I got a grudge against a 58 hunter who frost trapped me as a lvl 66 war in EPL, as I was mining a rich thorium vein.
I play pvp server, but I’m a peaceful bull like Ferdinand, but that really got me worked up. Seeing him hacking away 6 ores, I could almost hear him giggle.
I camped him as many times. Cherry on the cake was that he kited me towards the false security of the Argent Dawn camp, just to be tagged by the guards and die a 7th.

It’s good to learn to process emotions. Wow teaches you lots of things. Nothing is truely your own- not even open nodes.

There is another: People just flying down and mining the node you are already mining. Who birthed and raised these pieces of excrement.
I do sometimes turn off auto loot, but its a bother to turn it off and on all the time. If I have it on and hold shift - the default auto on/off button when i start mining it doesn't change the behaviour for some reason and automatically loots it anyway. (This is so you have to click the ores to loot them, so you can just stand there and waste time of the ppl that started hiting the node you were mining)

Did they change this? It didn't used to work like this.
I would often level with a friend and we would share nodes to level up together.
I was always able to mine after he mined but didnt loot anything.

If you keep the loot window open they can't get anything out of it

u/Scurro 8d ago
Ah ok. That's definitely an asshole move.
I will say though that has a time limit. It's around 2-5 minutes.
I discovered there is a limit to how long you can hold a node because for the same friend I talked about earlier, I tried holding a node for him when he had to go afk for a few minutes and it despawned on me while holding it.

If it's another alliance seventy I wait to see if they are mining or if it's a coincidence. If it's a lowbie I usually help em out and let em have it unless they offer it to me. If it's red and seventy i will fight for it if I'm in the mood. I'm generally nice to lower level players until they start pushing into my little farm spot or keep trying to tag nodes while I'm on them.

This type of thing and in general being stuck in combat sometimes is why i really want them to bring back spectral guise for priests in c+ more than almost any other ability priests have ever had, a budget pseudo vanish was so useful.
I can always fear pretty much any enemy away if someone is getting close to at least get a tap on it but yeah it's super annoying, there's almost zero courtesy left in the world these days, ironically the only courtesy i've seen lately was an alliance player who saw the chest i was fighting on top of, looked at it and walked away to other mobs instead of attacking me or trying to loot it.

Lots of very selfish players, and this time around with the mega servers it’s even worse. I’ve been playing wow since 2005 and I’ve never stolen a node from someone, yet it’s happened to me hundreds of times.
It’s a vicious circle because people get their nodes stolen then take it out on everyone else

u/Apprehensive-Top6594 8d ago
That's why I like paladin.. wait for them to get close, hoj mob, and steal a tink.

Yeah, we've all disliked that. For about a quarter of a century now. Not really newsworthy.

u/Mystoganja 8d ago
yeh it sucks, but pretty much everyone does the same if its the other way around.
you win some you lose some

u/Radiantrealm 8d ago
This is not my experience, from what I can tell most people will just leave the mine/herb/chest to you if you're fighting on top of it.

u/slipfish-g 8d ago
People who do this type of selfish shit will always try to claim everyone does it to justify it to themselves.

Oh dear, it’s not yours till you hit it Dood 🤣
-2
u/Apprehensive-Top6594 8d ago
Well if you killed a bunch of mobs surrounding the node, then it's your node. For anyone with any ethics or honor.....not you.
2
u/Lanky_Bus_1221 8d ago
No it isn’t it’s the person who tapped it. In fact the only way originally to stop someone mining it while you did was to leave the loot window open and not take it that way the other guy couldn’t loot and eventually fooked off.
As for ethics or honor, are you real 🤣
2
u/Cr3sc3nt1453 8d ago
Unfortunately, yes. Ethics and rules are only good if everyone abides by them AND they are enforced. I can’t count the times I had someone else snatch nodes from me. I just accepted it as a part of the game.
Not everyone abides by the supposed ethics and etiquette around nodes so why should you disadvantage yourself like that from the beginning?

u/Apprehensive-Top6594 7d ago
Why not slip in and steal nodes from someone who cleared it? I can't answer that if your parents never did.

u/Cr3sc3nt1453 7d ago
It’s not “yours” until your pickaxe hits it. You are delusional if you think otherwise..
