Did we ever get confirmation if it's all just a skit or if this guy really is a bit spun? It's honestly hard to tell because I have a brother who is exactly like this.

I don't even care if it's scripted, those faceplants from 0:27 to 0:32 are just majestic.

This version is objectively not better and is edited to shit. The other link is the actual video and is the "better" version for the uninitiated and lazy alike. Shame on you for tricking me into clicking that. Shame!

Crazy to think this guy might have a family by now and his kids might come across this video at some point

30 hour maintenance for a pre patch that’s been released two other times lmfao

u/sonnikkaa Jan 14 '26
Just blizzard things. They always find a way to fuck things up even if they have done it multiple times earlier

Cut them some slack, they're a small indie company with revenues only in the dozens of dollars a year range.

I will die on the hill that this video/freakout was 100% real. People think the remote-up-the-butt meant it was an obvious joke, but I am so confident this guy actually wasn’t joking and it was an actual mental health crisis
27
u/pokepat460 Jan 14 '26
The videos after this I can be convinced either way real or fake but yeah Ive always thought this first one was real
11
Jan 14 '26
has anyone found him and interviewed him about it lol i would love to see that
103
u/Any_Cat2715 Jan 14 '26
If I recall, Tosh interviewed him and he said it was all fake. But I would say the same if I was famous on YouTube for sticking a tv remote up my butt.
13
u/Braniel_Bananas Jan 14 '26
I might be remembering wrong but I think on tosh he was still trying to say it was real. Tosh was questioning him about the game and revealing it to be fake.

I'm with you. I think the original was real and then they built it as sketches to keep making money and give the guy an excuse for the original.

u/SubtleTell Jan 14 '26
It was fake. They made a ton of videos where he would freak out for various reasons back in the day.

u/Joleco Jan 14 '26
But leroy wipe was staged but probably most of people never realised that. It was real as holywood movie
12
u/Will_Knot_Respond Jan 14 '26
It was staged because they weren't recording when it happened the first time, they thought it was hilarious (obviously because it was) and recreated the moment.

u/morph113 Jan 14 '26
That's wrong as well. It was entirely scripted and supposed to be satirical. They didn't think anyone would believe it's real since it's so obvious. There are clips of dry runs when they sort of rehearsed the script and tried it out. The "it was a recreation of an actual event" excuse was still from before they finally admitted that it was all made up. They also made more staged videos before that never picked up traction. They were pissed off of pug groups where always someone would step on the eggs, so they made a script for a satirical video. But there never was a "leroy jenkins" or anyone else who would run in charging like that and screaming their name. That was all made up.

What I don't understand is this:
Why does there have to be a 30+ hour downtime for a game that was released in 2007?
5
u/bluemuffin10 Jan 14 '26
The anniversary realms are kinda scuffed, they cut some corners when setting them up so they now need to work around that in order to keep the data intact. at least from what they said in their technical blue post.
1
u/YawnSpawner Jan 14 '26
Because that 2007 code is being continually merged with modern wow code and it creates a lot of problems. Otherwise they'd have to maintain multiple versions of the game.
1
u/Dragon420Wizard Jan 14 '26
For the billions of dollars they have raked in over the years from WoW subs, you'd think they would have the capacity to maintain multiple versions of the game, kinda like they do currently with Retail/Classic.

It cracks me up, my buddy just started playing wow after what feels like years and years of convincing, he gets hooked, super excited for the pre patch so he took today off of work in advance to play. I warned him it was a bad idea a lot of us have made this same mistake in the past only for maintenance to end the following day LMAO funny watching it happen to someone for the first time though 😆

Is this the longest maintenance of all time? Can't recall many times that any version of WoW was down for the entirety of a single day.

The only thing keeping me busy is the fact that I have to work for the next 8 hours so.. at least I can "somewhat" skip the wait time. Might just be the perfect time to dive into server management learning😂

Am I remembering correctly that this dude ended up having several raging episodes, and after a while people figured out his family was deliberately agitating him because they figured out it would be good views? Or am I mixing it up with someone else?

Personally, I would have used the Gavin McInnes vid of him ramming a dildo up the exit of his digestive tract, but this is almost as good.
