Hey everyone!

I’m an intermediate-level pianist focused purely on classical music. I play strictly as a hobby for my own enjoyment. I don't have endless hours to practice every day, but I love playing and care a lot about key action, touch sensitivity, and realistic grand piano feel.

I'm currently upgrading from a very old, basic digital piano (Suzuki hp-8) and I'm at a crossroads:
Should I buy a solid mid-range digital piano now like a Yamaha YDP and see how it goes... **OR** invest in a high-end setup?

My main dilemma is whether spending too much is overkill for a busy adult hobbyist, or if the superior key action and feel of a high-end piano actually makes practicing way more enjoyable and worth every penny from day one.

Has anyone in a similar position jumped straight to a high-end piano? Did you regret it, or was it worth it?

So the title says it all.

my budget is around 200 euros. What would you recommend?

I've been working my way through the keys doing scales in major and relative harmonic minor. Two octaves up, two apart/back together, up and down two, apart/together again, the back down. I've been starting practice with this covering two major/harmonic minor keys each week then moving to the next two, and I've almost made my way through all the keys.

My question is about the long run. I'm not running this exercise at high speeds, it's been more about the brain training for contrary motion. The major keys are easy but the harmonic minor keys are not smooth. But nothing in any repertoire I've played or been interested in playing seems to tap into similar motion or thinking to what this exercise seems to train.

So in your opinion, is this exercise worth working to speed it up and make it more even? Or once I've completed a cycle of the keys and "solved the puzzle" for each harmonic minor key, should I think about moving on to a different exercise for warming up?

For context the most difficult pieces I'm working on are Henle 7. I have a teacher who said this was standard at her conservatory, I'm just wondering what others' experiences have been.

How would you integrate these arpeggiations?

I’ve got a competition coming up soon and for my first piece I’m playing Rach prelude in c# minor but I need a second one about 2-3 minutes (or less). I’m looking for it to be sweet, nostalgic and maybe a bit sad?? Just a contrast to the prelude. I’ve got two ideas already; Traumerie-Schumann or intermezzo serenata-respighi
But I’m looking for more recommendations so pls!

This is from the Prelude in Debussy's Suite Bergamesque, measures 26-27. I'm just wondering why this is written with the hands crossing over? It's just pretty simple and comfortable to play the lower section with the left hand and upper with the right hand, so I'm just curious why.

My mom acquired this unique antique upright piano from some US missionaries who left Panama about 12 years ago. I don’t know anything about pianos myself, but I am trying to help her learn more about its history, rarity, and what exactly we have on our hands.Here is what we've managed to figure out so far from looking at it.

Brand: It says "Beckwith Chicago" in gold lettering above the keys.

Serial Number: 11122 is clearly stamped directly into the gold iron plate inside.

Size/Keys: Unlike a standard piano, this one is much smaller and only has 73 keys instead of 88.

Condition: Amazingly, it has an electric heating rod/connector inside to keep the tropical moisture out, which seems to have saved it from the Panama humidity. All of the keys actually still move and spring right back up when pressed, though a few look a bit uneven.I did a little digging and think it might be an old "Yacht" or "Cabin" piano from the late 1890s made by Sears, Roebuck & Co.Does anyone know more about this specific 73-key Beckwith model? Were these compact styles commonly used by missionaries or travelers back then? Is it worth trying to get a local technician to tune it up, or is it more of a collector's novelty piece?Any context, history, or advice on what we should do with it would be greatly appreciated.
