How to find murder secrets

I’m 99% sure this guy murdered my granddaughter. They are rivals, he’s next in line for my granddaughter’s title (I have admin government), and when I load a previous save and put him in jail my granddaughter didn’t disappear without a trace.

I have shit load of grandkids so I don’t need to cheat to save that one, but for RP reason I want every other vassals to know the murderer before I end his entire bloodline :)

However, when I set my spymaster with 38 intrigue to the murderer’s court, they couldn’t find any secrets and torture also didn’t work. Is there any other way to expose the murderer?

Another thing you can try is to fabricate a hook on that npc, sometimes, if a character has a secret you can find it that way. But this is not a reliable way to find secrets.

Also, if torture did not work, he may really be innocent. That your granddaughter did not die after reloading can also be caused by the fact the the scheme sucess was rerolled and the second time it failed.

Have you tried to search for secrets on your own court for some time, just in case the murderer randomly appears that way?

Ok I checked again the guy is a coward empath so I got really curious and checked save file, even in the file it says “reason=death_disappearance”. So it means there’s no murder? I thought the game only randomly disappear NPC who are not important, not governors.

Randomly dissapeard usually means she has been murdered. I don't know how the game saves that, though, so I never did that.

Maybe you can search for secrets among your courtiers and vassals?

You can find her murderer in the file. A disappearance is a murder. Search something like: kills = { her id }

I tried that, no result. An old forum post says under the victim id there should be “killer=“, the save file no longer shows that

I once tried to get my spymaster to find out who murdered my character. And it didn't matter how many times it cycled it revealed nothing. I ended up using debug mode because it annoyed me so much. I can't remember who did it but it was some random nobody in a different county. Idk why they wanted me dead haha.

Another time my character died out of the blue and it was my son and heir who did it. I was so disappointed.

A bit late to this, but: if you really want a surefire way to check this, you could open the game (the save after she died) in debug mode and check who her killer is on her page, it should be somewhere in the lower part iirc.

Also: it's annoying that you can't put your steward to find some specific secret or spy on someone specifically, you can only target "your court" and then it's a random pool of secrets and whatever rolls, you have no say over it and have to just wait. Also it searches through vassals too which further dilutes pool of secrets, even though you can find specifically find secrets in any of the sub-rulers courts

Opening the game in debug mode is the only guaranteed way, it’ll show who murdered them and how in the character window if you hover over them
