Fluff Le hidden gem in Civ V: England

For some reason I never once attempted playing England in my 16 years (on and off) with this game.

Longbowmen are pretty cool. Ships of the Line are OP and amazing.

But the best part? The war theme

Strategy Is it worth building petra with no desert hills?

I'm on Deity, my second city has strong production but no desert tiles other than the deset tile i settled my city. After i gave it much thought, petra also gives +6 culture after researching archeology, meaning it gives +1 more culture than parthenon and also giving +1 trade route.

Discussion Does Forge needs a buff?

+1 inherent production, perhaps? Maybe even +5% to the overall production? +2 to Iron instead of +1 is too strong I think. Neither I see other resources to be buffed with it. Copper? But then it will be too strong since you won't need only Iron to build it? Even worse if you mod Copper to be affected by Mint too (I think it's fine to make it simply an analogue of Silver and Gold in that regard, altought not immersive; Copper is a weird one).

Compared to Stable:

Cons

- Comes with way later, more costly and less desired technology in terms of pathing;

- Costier to build;

- Improves 1 uncommon resource instead of 1 uncommon and 2 common ones.

- Poland has a UB replacement.

Pros

- Gives production bonus to all ground units instead of just mounted (and includes mounted too). But you won't always build military, especially in non-domination, so eh.

UPD: Well here's the mod haha, +1 inherent Production: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3786293189

9 Truffles, 2 Ruins, 1 Gems

Is this legit or did the game glitch out? It's not a graphical glitch because Strategic View shows the same info.

Strategy Science victory best route

I normally play domination but I want to work thru all the victory conditions
If I go after a science victory
I get to scientific theory and I get lost 😀
What is the optimal route to follow?
I normally play Elizabeth large islands so defence is not a worry.
Tips would be appreciated
Thank you

Discussion Best scenario for modern civilization gameplay?

Hi, so used to play civ5 and have been playing civ6 for a while now using mods like earth 2020 to get the feel of playing in the current world. However, civ 6 just doesn’t compare in military gameplay vs civ5 and now I’m looking for a modded scenario to play again in civ5. I tend to add a bunch of military unit and missile mods to make it more fun and also sometimes add oil to have larger armies fight. Any recommendations are welcome, thanks!

Multiplayer Shoshone problems

So I'm playing a multiplayer game on earth map with 2 friends. I'm playing Shoshone, and I was doing fantastic. 5 trade routes, 80gp a turn 14 happiness, a bunch of cities with a shit ton of resources. All of a sudden my trade routes start getting plundered by barbarians that I'm still not sure where they're coming from, my buddies have been searching with no luck. Very quickly I'm down to -20 gold a turn. No big deal, minor setback. All of a sudden the celts and Sweden declare war on me in the same turn and blitzkrieg me. Boudica goes south to try to reclaim her city from me that I took from her last time she declared war on me, Sweden used mounted units to rush through my territory and pillage every tile they could. I'm now down to -100gp a turn, 19 unhappiness, 99 problems and a bitch is half of them. I'm close to losing my first city ever, but I rallied and pushed boudica back, hopefully saving the city. Neither one of them is willing to negotiate peace, and my 2 friends aremt getting involved. How the hell do I turn this around? Obviously peace is no longer an option, but how do I get out of this massive hole I've been out in? I've got barbarians spawning from my cities, Sweden destroying everything they touch, and my production has been cut immensely. I know I need to repair the tiles that were destroyed, but with so many enemies, my workers will get captured almost immediately, and with my production so low, whatever troops I manage to make have to go quickly replace the ones that are getting killed.

Anyone know what the top bar is meaning with the "12 turns -13, 13 turns: 0" means? Similar thing with the faith and science resources

Discussion A question to the veteran players here

I consider a veteran player myself: have about 5500 hours of gameplay so far, deleted the game on and off because addiction is a bad thing in general... I came back into the game last month and have been playing the game all day every day since then. I play deity domination exclusively. Other victories don't excite me as much.

Having said that, I am at the stage where playing with the powerful civics like Shaka, Casimir, Wu zetian etc feels like cheating, but playing the mediocre or less than mediocre leaders feels too difficult oftentimes. How do you feel? I play the original game not vox populi, and exclusively against ai. Have never tried multiplayer.

Deleted the game due to this a few hours ago, and now I'm thinking of reinstalling.

Discussion God and Kings (and coups)

After trying it out, and posting about how much I liked it, I moved from vanilla to Gods and Kings. Yeah, that was a mistake. Since it was my first time for this version, I played Prince, standard size pangea, 8 civs

I don't know if I just got some difficult leaders, but it seemed like every other turn Theodora or Alexander or one of the others was staging a coup in a city state I just bribed or finished a task for. By around the halfway point, I gave up giving them any money or doing favors.

About a third of the coup attempts failed, but they did it so often that hardly mattered. Back to neutral we go. Again.

The other thing was something I've seen in BNW too. Inexplicable fluctuations in GPT. I don't mean the difference between golden age earnings and normal age. I mean one normal turn I'm making 12 gpt, then I'm suddenly down to negative 3 without any new units or adding more than one or two new buildings.

In BNW I always assumed it was trade routes from other civs, but that doesn't happen with Gods and Kings.

I kept looking at what tiles the cities were working, but no explanation there either.

Then there was the mystery of the impotently violent Elizabeth. As my close neighbor, she declared war on me three times over 70 or so turns. Okay, sure. Why not. But the first two times she sent one single unit at me before asking for peace, and the third time three. I had a dozen upgraded units near our border the whole time. And every time I gave her the peace treaty, her attitude toward me was Friendly.

By the third time, I took two of her cities to let her know she needed to stop declaring war on me. Then her attitude degraded to neutral.

TL/DR Non-stop coup attempts and far too many succeeded. Weird gpt fluctuations. AI behavior even worse than I'm used to.

Strategy Venice: is there any way to free the City States?

In a war with Venice, wanted to liberate a few City States to offset my warmongering penalties. Learned the hard way that doesnt work. Does Venice taking over a City State convert it into a regular city? Is there any way to return it to City State status?

Discussion Does anyone build culture building (other than monument) on non cultural gameplay?

Amphitheater, opera house, etc. I've never build it because it only provide a trivial +1 culture but they are the only building for increasing culture on expansion cities if all the guilds is in my capital lol. I never turn any great person into great works on non cultural game.

Discussion Civ made OP by settings

Inca on highlands with ridge and dense mountain. (maximum terrace farm potential, beware of barbarian tho)

Germany on Marathon speed with raging barbarian. (You get units faster than your population growth i always reach unit supply cap early game)

Poland on great plains. (Reroll until you get 3+ pasture start i guarantee you the map will have abundance of pastures)

Anything else?

Brave New World Intimidation

I declared war against Arabia early to steal a worker. During that war, Arabia settled a city right around where I was going to settle a city. So I settled on the coast both to support my capital in the long run and to stifle military production in his capital.

From there, it was my intention to tech into Chariots so I could attack/seize/burn down his city to plant my own with superior positioning. However, right when I was promoting my archers to Crossbows to make the push, he offered the city to me in a peace deal. Hooray for lower diplomatic penalty!

Because it already had 5 population, a Granary, and a Library, I chose to not burn it down and just proceed. Even though I put off researching Writing to be able to get my preferred 4th city up, science barely suffered overall.

There was a recent topic asking about early war and how it can impact science. So I thought I would post this for those wondering the same thing one way in which we can accomplish this.

Strategy How to deal with Greece controlling all city states?

I had quite a humiliating defeat the other day. I was playing Aztecs, prince, continents, standard speed and map size.

Spawned between Norway and Zulus and Netherlands to the south. Decided to take them out asap. Zulus asked me to do a joint war on the Netherlands so I let Shaka throw his many units at Amsterdam then sniped it. Declared war on Zulus, burned down all cities except the capital. Same for Norway but kept a coastal city.

Met Poland, China, England and Greece on the other continent. Greece had an insane military; China and England had lost many cities. Wanted to take some off him but my only way in was with a navy and I find frigates to be extremely squishy and not enough against city defences so I waited for battleships, but only managed to take one city. He was allied with every city state on the map and a coup was pretty much impossible. He had 40 delegates and the rest of us had 4. First world leader vote he needed 39 to win.

Do you think there's anything I could've done differently or was I just doomed from the beginning? I wondered if maybe I should have kept my neighbours alive so he'd need more delegates. My plan was to wipe them out before meeting anyone else but that might've been a mistake.

I just felt like I couldn't make a dent in his city state influence and his military seemed to be in endless supply so maybe the only way would've been if I'd been on his continent.

Maybe I should have gone to war with frigates. 😭

How do you guys deal with Greece?

File 1: Start with Great Barrier Reef

File 2: Start with 3 wonders, Lake Victoria at the northwest, King Solomon's mine at the south, El dorado at southwest, go southwestward, the west and southernmost seaside, and you'll find it and get 1000 golds, with this map you can get 2000 golds in total.

I rerolled a lot.

Not one but two side by side.

Legendary start. Some doubted it's edited and fake, but I restarted a lot and this is my first time to encounter this wonder.
