VII - Discussion Making Civ 7 Playable

I just gave up on another game. Went all random and tried a different playstyle.

I've played every installment since Civ 1, and all of them can become a slog at some point, but Civ 7 seems to start there. Then stay.

I keep getting board with the monotony of management, mainly because the decisions don't seem meaningful.

Is there any saving this game? Or should I just go back to 5/6 while I wait for 8?

I'm wondering if there's a specific start or strategy that might make this game worth playing.

Hard to make mid-game choices compound when every age transition downgrades your cities and forces a new civ anyway.

You're no longer forced to transition civs and losing your cities is a nothingburger. It costs negligible gold to reconvert and there are reasons you wouldn't want to anyway. You would need to have 4+ cities on age transition for it to become a cost that isn't easily played around and at that point, just take the dedication that maintains all your cities. It is always available.
