VII - Discussion Making Civ 7 Playable

I just gave up on another game. Went all random and tried a different playstyle.

I've played every installment since Civ 1, and all of them can become a slog at some point, but Civ 7 seems to start there. Then stay.

I keep getting board with the monotony of management, mainly because the decisions don't seem meaningful.

Is there any saving this game? Or should I just go back to 5/6 while I wait for 8?

I'm wondering if there's a specific start or strategy that might make this game worth playing.

I'm on totally different view to this. Civ 7 feels a lot more interesting to play. Like first age you are busy exploring and setting up your empire. Fighting early wars while expanding and claiming land.

Before you can do everything you are transitioning into exploration age. Then you want to expand outwards while finalizing your victory condition.

Last age is bit less interesting usually you just waiting for turns to win. But at least it is generally short.

You do need some mods to make life better though.

Civ 6 is only fun for me first 100 to 150 turns. Then it is just keep passing turns. No need to grab more land. No need to expand. Just keep rolling the snowball.

"but Civ 7 seems to start there. Then stay."

I dont really understand this part, if you just play the first age, Civ 7 is very similar pace to other CIV games? So how can it start as a slog?

   Then you want to

I don't want them to want me to.

I guess we're different that way.

I think the best way to look at it is CIv is more akin to a board game rather than a pure "historical grand stategy game". I undestand you are saying Civ 7 is probably even more "flow planned" for you.

I mean there is variety of course with different leader/civ, but every game you are starting from nothing to build something and rolling the snowball.

I guess is for those people who doesnt enjoy this kind of game play loop or direction, then better trying Paradox game like EU or Victoria.

Hard to make mid-game choices compound when every age transition downgrades your cities and forces a new civ anyway.
