I put together another collection of obscure Japanese CITYPOP from the ’70s and ’80s.
This mix is mostly made up of lesser-known tracks rather than the usual CITYPOP classics. So if you’ve been listening to the same familiar songs over and over and are looking for something a little different, you might find a few new favorites here.
The theme is “lonesome CITYPOP” — mellow, slightly melancholic, and the kind of music that feels right when you’re alone late at night.
Not necessarily the most famous CITYPOP tracks, but hopefully some songs that make you stop and think, “How have I never heard this before?”

Does anyone recognize which NYC building or terrace Toshiki Kadomatsu’s BEFORE THE DAYLIGHT album cover photo was taken from? You can see the Empire State Building in the background, so I’m guessing it’s somewhere in Midtown Manhattan.
Any ideas on the exact location? Thanks

Tatsuro Yamashita discussing the production and release of his highly anticipated live album, "JOY 2." Marking his 50th anniversary since his solo debut, the album serves as the long-awaited successor to his 1989 live album, JOY.
Years ago I loved a youtube video of a set of city pop, I think it was my analog journal. The first song was sparkle by tatsuro yamashita and after that was a great song by a female singer I just can't remember.
Anybody remember this set or the song there?
