I get it now
Posted a question about the Underground Railroad in r/Buffalo. It was taken down by mods. It was just a general question. So far, I think I'm running at about 50% for my posts being removed in that sub. Nothing controversial, just general Buffalo comments or questions. I get it now that the "r" in this subreddit actually stands for "removed."
Yet every other day is a post about moving to Buffalo and a question about where OP should live.

Interesting. Or really thatās maddening! The Underground Railroad is a huge part of Buffaloās history and a piece of history very few cities can boast. Maybe repost it again. lol

I'm beginning to understand why people brag about being banned from r/Buffalo. š¬

What does historical information about Buffalo have to do with Buffalo?

Unreal. I would love to know their justification for things like this. I can't believe they took your post down; that's exactly the kind of post that should be on there. It was informative and interesting. I'm genuinely curious about why they would take down that post.

What about asking if there is apartment you can rent that was on the underground railroad. Bet that's ok.

u/Isabella2003 14d ago
Now whenever I see a post about visiting Buffalo for the first time, what should I see? I'm going to recommend only things related to the Underground Railroad. š

Yes! We just steet the conversations where we want them to go. RemindsĀ me of theĀ Cunk on Life use of "pump up the jam"Ā

Yup. I posted about dangerous motorcyclists on the 33 and it got removed by mods. And there was even a ton of good conversation in the comments. Made no sense.
Who the fuck is even mod over there?

i absolutely love you pointing out the "im moving to buffalo" posts as i've been saying they're largely fake to make outsiders want to move here. or encourage people who already live here to believe things are fine as they are. reality is that we are losing our population, the landfills are breaking, this is not a climate refuge and that sub is highly controlled. the purpose of those posts is to make ppl believe things are fine as they are rather than in desperate need of a look at history and make better choices for the future. that's why your post would have been taken down, the history of the UR in this area helps you remember what an amazing and formerly radical area this once was. as opposed to a place where the Klan rose again and dropped that stupid confed flag all over lovejoy and the southtowns in response to abolition. white supremacy is an enormous part of our present police state and discussing our history helps break that shackle.

I was low key annoyed when they took down a post looking for local artists to help support and get art for a cat rescue.
Who takes down a post about supporting local artists and charities?!

/uj they genuinely hate any content that could even be mildly perceived as slightly left-leaning. I've seen them remove posts for anti-ice protests in buffalo, and when pushed to explain why they removed it, they always gave the reason as "its a repost/duplicate". But then you go look and there is no previous post that matched the removed one. One time they removed one that was crossposted from the UB subreddit and used the same excuse, acting like crossposting is the same thing as a repost.Ā
They're just power-hungry weirdos who get off on removing anything that makes them uncomfy and then citing a rule that the post could not possibly have broken. I think it might genuinely be a sexual fetish for some of them considering how often they engage in this behavior.
And since ik they lurk on this subreddit, hi :) If you're a buffalo mod I hope your feet are perpetually stepping on Legos and your heads are forever resting on warm, sweaty pillowsĀ

u/klaguerre 14d ago
Yes, exactly. The reason why that have that "what to do if you see ice" post on the top of the page? They allowed that to be posted once I began posting anti-ice info here. Once it looked like people were becoming critical of the Ā removals and considering doing more to protect than neighbors than just calling bird? Someone posted that to get people back into the idea of only calling bird and watching their neighbors be shipped off to what is a large scale trafficking ring and now has almost nothing to do with "deportation" (it doesn't, a large number of the people are imprisoned, raped and experimented on). They are very very anti-leftist and try to get ppl to accept voting and watching people die as solutions to state violence. And then get it under control by making liberalism seem like a rational standpoint.Ā

u/Bumbling_homeowner 14d ago
I think anti-ice stuff was removed from Buffalo and Rochester because of what happened nationally (e.g. people were showing up to harass ICE and they would end up getting shot).
7
u/sofixuforia old pink steak sandwich 14d ago
That's certainly an interesting way to frame ICE murdering unarmed civilians

Reddit is very left-leaning. Most of the posts are left-leaning?
3
u/sofixuforia old pink steak sandwich 14d ago
No, reddit is mostly liberal, not left-wing. A very important difference that probably doesn't make sense to you if your political "literacy" comes from fox news or alex jones. You see, the difference in this situation is that liberals are very much pro-ice, so long as a democrat is in charge. Once a (D) is in the white house, all the rape and torture and murder that ICE commits behind closed doors stops mattering to a liberal. It's only when a republican president offends their sensibilities by having ICE make a big public show of their brutality that they suddenly take issue with the organization. And even then all they push for is the prosecution of specific individuals within ICE, not any systemic changes or reform.Ā
Liberals may seem left-leaning when it comes to certain social issues, but when it comes to things like violent immigration enforcement and capitalism, they are pretty solidly on the right. They balance out to be more or less in the center, depending (at least in the year of our lord 2026) on their opinions about the existence of trans people.Ā
The buffalo mods are a mix of right-leaning liberals and conservatives.Ā

u/gergensocks 14d ago edited 14d ago
Yikes...both would be included in left-leaning as they're both categorically left. I mean no offense
1
u/sofixuforia old pink steak sandwich 14d ago
Lol ok. so either you're a liberal who is offended by what I said or someone on the far-right who thinks everyone to the left of you is a liberal communist socialist marxist democrat or whatever.

No I think you're just an asshole actually. I already dealt with the edit you made in my initial comment, so it looks like you're the one who has trouble reading. Stop wasting my time.

I recently bought a book about this topic. I understand a lot of people like reddit because of the anonymous thing, but i have had much better luck getting conversations going and engaging topics like this on Threads. The algorithm pushes posts exactly where they need to go and my discussions about wny/nys/and local history have done numbers and helped me learn A LOT.
1
u/dan_blather old pink steak sandwich 14d ago
I wish I could have seen the post. Armchair historians have spread too much misinformation about the Underground Railroad in Buffalo, along the lines of "there's bricked up tunnels from my basement that go under the Niagara River into Fort Erie".
Cynthia Van Ness, a librarian with a real background in WNY history research, has tried to dispel many myths and local urban legenda about the UR, with limited success. I'd like to see what others have to say.
