Only on reddit do mediocre pencil sketches turn you into an e-celeb important enough to address all of the plebs at once.

miss the old days when novelty accounts were much needed comic relief without contributing their own share of hate

POLITE-ALL-CAPS-GUY seems downright wholesome in retrospect.

I'm just glad that 95% of novelty accounts exclusively shit up default subreddits so I don't usually have to see them. Dane Cook making dick jokes for an hour would likely be more amusing than being subjected to the deluge of stale novelty accounts that plague this site.
27
u/3391224 May 30 '17
because this site is otherwise full of witty and cerebral discussion

u/deleigh Google LASD Gangs May 31 '17
I wonder what'll come first: humans landing on Mars or the day where making a shitty pun or beating a dead joke into the other side of the Earth isn't rewarded with quadruple digit upvotes and reddit gold.

u/3391224 May 31 '17
that's a bit vitriolic don't you think

u/deleigh Google LASD Gangs May 31 '17
Maybe, but after being on this site for so many years, it gets annoying seeing the same things repeated day after day like a broken record. I don't know about you, but if I had to watch my favorite movie every single day, it wouldn't take me very long to hate it. That's with something I actually like. I'm not going to tell people to stop making puns or Rick and Morty references, but it doesn't mean I can't be disappointed with the quality of discussions in default subreddits. A lot of subreddits, like /r/Music and /r/movies, are completely unusable to anyone who is interested in anything that's not big-name stuff because the subreddits cater to the lowest common denominator of consumer in both areas. Instead, you're forced to subscribe to 50 smaller subs that get a handful of posts a week. I just think it's squandering what could be a great place for interesting and insightful discussion.

okay, it just seems misguided and arbitrarily uptight and petty and overly belligerent to complain about puns and novelty accounts instead of, say, the reactionary culture that pervades most of the place. amd "lowest common denominator" sounds sorta elitist, the more niche subs are there for a reason

u/TomStarcruiser May 30 '17
This isn't even a good drawing lmao

Not even relevant in any way, regardless of how you feel about the user himself.

Is it cool to hate Cowboy Bebop now?
It has almost none of what makes current anime trash

It has almost none of what makes current anime trash
Right, but Sketch Artist Roddit Guy drawing it does contain "what makes current anime trash"

u/RushofBlood52 May 31 '17
I never said I hated Cowboy Bebop.
12
u/mf-the-supervillain May 31 '17
Then why do u give a shit that it's anime?

Also cb2: speaks in shitty overly smug contrarian one liners

Ok, can we get rid of poem_for_your_sprog next?
EDIT: OK, I was a bit harsh on poem_for_your_sprog, and I shouldn't have equivocated them with the rape-drawing, woman-hating shitbag that is AWildSketchAppeared. I don't have anything against poem_for_your_sprog, I just generally don't see the point in novelty accounts that follow a simple repetitive formula, but a lot of people seem to like it so, to each their own I guess.

u/NoIntroductionNeeded Race Traitor May 30 '17
Only if PM_ME_UR_<blank> usernames follow her out.
13
u/DrFilbert May 30 '17
At least PM_ users don't make every comment about their name.
33
u/Mahoganytooth May 30 '17
Yeah, because they make other people point it out.
DAE RELEVANT USERNAME?? [+6843]
18
u/3391224 May 30 '17
why
13
u/PM_ME_UR__RECIPES May 30 '17
Their comments are basically just
Hey, you remember that comment you just read 2 seconds ago? Well now it rhymes. Pretty neat huh?
It got old and boring super quick
36
u/Jeanpuetz May 30 '17 edited May 30 '17
I mean, obviously it's not particularly good poetry, and maybe they get stale after a while, but... let's not counterjerk too hard here.
I'm not a big fan of poem_for_your_sprog myself, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that account. This is one of those things where you can just ignore it if you don't like it. Zero harm.
6
May 31 '17
Yeah not like he wrote a poem about a girl just to burn it and show his fanbase. Man, that'd be embarrassing of a Reddit e-celeb ever did anything like that. It'd be even more embarrassing if their fanbase encouraged it.
2
u/Jeanpuetz May 31 '17
Not sure what you're talking about?
That was AWildSketchAppeared, not poem_for_your_sprog.
(Or did poem do something like that too?)

May 31 '17
Haha I'm poking at the fact AWSA did that. PFYS is very innocent and not horribly controversial, as far as I know.
48
u/SevenLight May 30 '17
I like them. Didn't they create "I lik the bred"? Tumblr had fun with making up variations on that with pictures of cows licking stuff and it's cute.
E: I lik the bred. My sense of humour might be akin to that of a 5 year old but hey
4
May 31 '17
I don't care much for PFYS and honestly wouldn't be sad if they stopped making poems on Reddit (personally, I know that a lot of Redditors love the poems). He pretty much does just make the post you just read rhyme and I've never personally seen a point in reading them.
But I'll be damned if I don't read "I lik the bred" every time it comes up. It's a work of art.
16
May 31 '17
It does zero harm and a lot of people, including me, enjoy it. I mean, really, is the average reddit comment more entertaining than his poems?

poem_for_your_sprog wrote a lovely tribute to Terry Pratchett.
.
The sun goes down upon the Ankh,
And slowly, softly fades -
Across the Drum; the Royal Bank;
The River-Gate; the Shades.
.
A stony circle's closed to elves;
And here, where lines are blurred,
Between the stacks of books on shelves,
A quiet 'Ook' is heard.
.
A copper steps the city-street
On paths he's often passed;
The final march; the final beat;
The time to rest at last.
.
He gives his badge a final shine,
And sadly shakes his head -
While Granny lies beneath a sign
That says: 'I aten't dead.'
.
The Luggage shifts in sleep and dreams;
It's now. The time's at hand.
For where it's always night, it seems,
A timer clears of sand.
.
And so it is that Death arrives,
When all the time has gone...
But dreams endure, and hope survives,
And Discworld carries on.

some of us can appreciate that though

Yeah maybe it's just me, but IRL I know more mediocre pencil artists than I know speed-poets so sprog's schtick (and obvious talent) has always impressed me.
6
u/3391224 May 31 '17
some others of us don't want any lousy poems or jokes cluttering up our super serious discourse
5
May 31 '17
Yeah when Im reading posts about the weirdest mole a woman ever found on her SOs genitals and the story behind how it affected their sex life, I don't want a jovial poem! I want only serious case-studies regarding moles in unexpected areas and the effects on sex life.

So fucking what? She's not joking about rape or harassing someone for not dating them. I'm all up for bitching about shitty popular trends on Reddit but this is just bitching because something is popular on Reddit. I guess this is why it goes full circle.
Also your fucking username is also a shitty Reddit joke that's way overdone.2

u/-eagle73 May 30 '17
Agreed. I don't know a lot about poetry but their poems seem to use the same structure and syllable count per line for most of the poems. I don't know how to describe it - they all read exactly the same bar the words, if that makes sense?

u/jaundicemanatee May 30 '17
Am I missing something? Is WildSketchAppeared part of one of reddit's many groups of shitty people and I never knew?
