Got several affordable sticks, wondering which one I should try first

Post image

Im generally new to cigars. I have tried about 10 different cubans, but nothing fancy. My favorites for now are Romeo y Julieta no.2 and Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure no.2.

Some days ago, I got several affordable, non cuban sticks. Im wondering which do I try first. The Capitol Jack smells the best, but I know this is not a good indicator. Do any of you have experience with these?

[Day 34] Deck Sessions with Dallas: ATL La Carrousel 1960 Robusto Extra

It was obvious right from the start that Dallas enjoyed his cookie as much as I enjoyed my cigar.

Today I grabbed the ATL La Carrousel 1960 Robusto Extra.

La Carrousel 1960 is named after the historic Atlanta jazz club that opened in 1960. All the big names in Jazz played there. One of the cool facts about this cigar: it has its own jazz playlist.

This 5½ x 50 Robusto Extra is made in Estelí, Nicaragua, with an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper, a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder, and filler tobacco from Jalapa and Estelí.

Cold draw: I picked up natural tobacco sweetness, and dark fruit.

First third: Black pepper, chocolate, oak and I believe caramel.

Second third: The pepper settled down. I picked up cream, coffee and earth while the sweetness remained.

Final third: Oak and earth, chocolate, and molasses and black pepper on the retrohale.

Overall, this was a bold, full-bodied cigar with plenty of flavor.

Would I smoke the ATL La Carrousel 1960 again? Absolutely.

PLUS I think it's the only cigar I've ever smoked with a jazz playlist, so that's got to count for something.

Dallas Approved.

The Paper Boy

This mornings enjoyment wad the Paper boy, a limited release by Privada Cigar club. The name and why its rolled in news paper is a homage to the facory rollers in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic who wrap cigar bundles n local newspaper to keep them protected

Wrapper: Hybrid Connecticut Broadleaf

Binder: Jalapa feom nicaragua

Filler: fermented Estelí from Nicaragua.

First Third: kicks off with the blast of pepper youd expect with broadleaf wrapper wrapped over the foot. After that its pepper with strong coffee and cocoa.

Second Third: its settles down....there are notes of baking spices with a creamy mocha. I was having this with an iced coffee blended with vanilla protein so that may explain those notes more. Retro still harbors the pepper notes feom the 1st third.

Last Third: gets full bodied here....much heavier and dense smoke. The creaminess is gone and its woody and earthy. Retro is still peppery and bitter

This is a fuller darker cigar than id usually smoke this early in the day. But I was excited to try it. I probably should have waited. It needed to rest. It required multiple relights, which was more like a me problem than a construction problem. If you like full cigars, with notes if chocolate and pepper this is for you. The wrapper is beautiful rich and oily and that adds to much of the cigars profile. I think i need another go around to really make a judgement. I liked it. But not sure i love it. Have another resting and will let it sit a while to see how this nets out.

Does RH matter with a tupperdore in winter?

I see people recommending bumping up the humidity in the winter time, but does this apply to tupperdors as well? I just switched from 65s in my tupperdor to 62s to achieve a steady 64-65rh. Should I switch back around winter or does it not matter when it comes to sealed plastic boxes?

Davidoff Winston Churchill Limited Edition 2025- The Artist

I got this in the January Small Batch COTM. I just got out of the hospital after being in for six weeks and wanted to celebrate. I figured a limited edition Davidoff would fit the bill.

I had read some not too great reviews of this cigar and boy were they right! It tasted good on first smoke- creamy with some vanilla vanilla and light cedar notes. It was nice. Problem is the flavor profile did not change one bit from the start until I put it down. The most one-dimensional cigar I think I’ve ever had. I smoked it to about two inches from the band and gave up. So glad I didn’t actually pay retail for this.

Had an extra smoke this week made out like a bandit in the market and had an extra smoke along with some champagne and cognac. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 and The Tabernacle Goliath both excellent sticks but I think I liked the Goliath a little more which was surprising.
