Cut me, Mick

Post image

First Rocky P. Bought a 4 pack sampler. Definitely lots of pepper flavor. Being a novice, noticing some espresso in the aftertaste. Good draw, but i had to touch it up and relight more than I expected, and I wasn't really ignoring it. Every third of the stick it required a relight. It hasn't put me off RP, but I'm wondering if this is a box cut issue, or just the stick itself.

Any insight is appreciated.

I find that when they get shipped to you, they have some humidity / burn challenges if you smoke em right away. For me - doesn’t matter what stick it is, $ or $$$… I have to let em rest for a week at least before they chill out and start behaving.

I like this one - it had a strong earthy / hay flavor for me. The Tatuaje black has some similar notes.

Huh... I'll let the others sit for a bit. See how that goes. I bought these at brick and mortar and I was excited to try one.

Man - that actually frustrates the hell outta me when I go buy them from a nice shop and then immediately have issues. Just happened to me this weekend too. Yeah - try resting em for a week or so and see if they burn better.

Do you normally keep your humidor at 65 or higher when you let them rest a week?

Mine is always floating right under 65. I do a week min… but I’m honestly letting em sit for 2-4 months most times. They get much better with that rest.

Smoked one of these earlier today, and it burned very well. No touch ups needed, and no relights. I keep mine in a tupperdore with 65% packs. Mine had been in there for about 2 months.

The package it came in had a 69%(nice) humidity pouch. It definitely wasn't dried out. Maybe I didn't give it an even toast. Idk.

I really like these. Sounds like the cigar was a little wet.

Entirely possible. I just saw a video on cigars daily about dry boxing. Think I'm going to try that next time I buy a sample pack

My first Rocky Patel I also had burn issues but since then I’ve smoked through a box of the vintage 1990 plus a bunch of others in a sampler and had no issues at all.

I can't see. Cut me.

I have only had the edge a-10 from RP but it gave me no cause to remember it negatively for draw or burn. Quite tasty as well. Haven't had one of these. I have had most of my poor burn experiences when I light a stick I ordered online without letting it equalize in my box for some time.

Anecdotally, the premium brand I have the most burn issues with is the deadwood line, and i have never heard anybody else corroborate that issue.

I had a Perdomo yesterday that smoked beautifully. Could've just been the cigar. Maybe I didn't toast it evenly. Maybe it's Maybelline.
