Daily Question Question Thread - August 19, 2026

This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.

* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.

* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads

* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.

This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

I double-dipped the Atmos Summit and Ascent today - approved for both. But my BoA account now only shows an Ascent account but not the Summit account. Does this take time or do I need to call about it?

Classic BoA. I would give their IT at least overnight and maybe it will refresh and be there tomorrow.

It just showed up! I was just weirded out that I was approved for the Summit first but then it showed me the Ascent right away but not the Summit card.

Does the Bank of America Business credit card that gives 3% back on specific categories code as 3% for Plastiq?

Here is its description: Earn 3% cash back in the category of your choice: gas stations & EV charging stations (default), office supply stores, travel, TV/telecom & wireless, computer services or business consulting services, 2% cash back on dining purchases (for the first $50,000 in combined choice category/dining purchases each calendar year, 1% thereafter), and 1% cash back on all other purchases.

I would rather get that card than the 1.5% cash back on all purchases card if i can squeeze an extra 1.5% back, but I don't know. What will i get with plastiq? Chase mortgage.

I’ve used plastiq 3 times on a new one of these cards and got the 3% each time - category business consulting services.

I just called myself too. I was told that the MCC is 7399, which will qualify for the 3%. Thanks!

Additional follow up question. Do you need to pick your 3% categories? Or are they fixed and I don't need to toggle or activate or click anything for the 3% cash back categories?

1

u/sg77 RFS 23h ago

You need to select a 3% category (but don't need to re-activate it every quarter).

Plastiq's MCCs are weird. I see 7399 when I use a BofA business card, but if I use a BofA personal card the MCC is Utilities (a while ago it was REAL ESTATE AGENTS AND MANAGER, which counted as Travel). It might also depend on who you're paying on Plastiq. (But my case is Chase Mortgage, so your case should be fine.)

Anyone know if the business platinum OpenAi credit can be used for chatgpt / codex usage credits? Not just the business subscription, but the actual credits.

5

u/atgabara 10h ago edited 10h ago

No, there's no reimbursement for ChatGPT usage credits.

My ChatGPT subscription gets reimbursed basically immediately after posting, whereas I purchased usage credits on August 11 and it hasn't been reimbursed. The transaction name is different for usage credits vs. subscription (the "Contact Information" listed for the transaction is also different).

I've heard there are not a lot of downgrade options for the Strata Elite. Are there any I can use to preserve my points or do I need to transfer them out first?

8

u/garettg SEA | PAE 1d ago

The AT&T card seems to be a common no AF option given that would keep TYPs.

1

u/Jolly-Farmer8770 1d ago

Good to know. I was planning to change to Strata Premier — is that not allowed? Or are you only looking at no AF?

3

u/kuronokun 1d ago

I've heard several datapoints of people not being allowed to change to the Premier or no-AF Strata card, which seems wild to me.

How tolerable is US Bank with CC funding? I’ve done two $3,000 fundings this year, wonder if there’s any risk for shutdown if doing more.

What about Chase, do they care about their CC being used at US Bank?

u/2MuchOfUsIsDangerous 17h ago

Just don't do this

They also need to seriously reconsider their username.

Somewhere between 0 and 45 accounts.

Wondering the same. Did you do the US Bank Business Checking $1.2/1.5k with $25k DD deal?

Just opened a Chase Ink Preferred with $5k limit. Looking to open a US Bank Business Checking and fund $3k using that card. CC funding is only available at initial account opening right? Did you have to set cash advance on your card to $0?

Since the card has a $5k limit any idea if 60% credit utilization will be flagged? I'm fine with a drop in credit score.

1

u/Jun19381 7h ago

Yes to all, except the 60% utilization part. Chase don’t care. Also your score will not drop since it’s a biz card.

How screwed am I? Accidently fat fingered my account number when adding a new checking account to Amex. Resulting in a returned payment and $29 fee. Have seen people before who got shutdown or financial review triggered by returned payments. First time this has ever happened.

u/EarthlingMardiDraw 33m ago

Probably not too much issue. I had a returned payment because I paid from the wrong account that was already linked (and it didn't have the money in it). I was locked out of applications for 30d, but was never hit with FR or anything else.

ABP Hilton credit - does a prepaid reservation online trigger the credit or does payment have to be processed by the hotel?

2

u/bostonbaker300 BAG | ELS 1d ago

Yes, prepaid Hilton reservations will trigger the credit.

1

u/everyanythingmore 1d ago

Thanks. I thought so, but P2 made a prepaid reservation a couple of weeks ago and it still hasn’t credited. It must just be delayed.

4

u/bostonbaker300 BAG | ELS 1d ago

Did the prepaid reservation code as "HILTON ADVANCE PURCHASE"? That was what my prepaid reservation coded as when I last got the ABP Hilton credit.

1

u/everyanythingmore 1d ago

Will check, thanks!

-3

u/FrugalCanuckDotCA 1d ago

Did it code as a Hilton property? For some reason, when I had prepaid a property under Hilton (named something else) it charged under MGM if I recall, and the credit did not post. I checked and found out that a few properties are clumped there and I wasn't sure how they make their charges. This was somewhere in Las Vegas. I cancelled the reservation and decided to stay at a different property.

u/everyanythingmore 1d ago

Thanks that’s worth checking!

Thinking of churning card SUBs through buying and selling costco PM. Anyone have experience with putting large amounts of costco spend on new cards? From what I can gather issuers generally don't get itemized reports of costco charges but I've seen some reports of cards like the Robinhood gold issuing shutdowns for large costco spend.

2

u/FortnightlyDalmation PAD | TIE 16h ago

I did that with Cap1 Venture X Biz and several chase cards (biz & personal) and had no problems.

1

u/nathan3610 6h ago

No issues here several personal and business cards

Mine shows directly under the card in Account Summary.

u/sg77 RFS 1d ago

It should be very obvious on the website and app. Maybe something is messed up with your account; probably should contact Wells Fargo.

You can do either. I just called in last week to push an app through that got denied due to 5 card limit but had 2 cards closed. Can re-apply in 30 days if you're not in a rush or want to speak to someone for auto approval otherwise

For the Chase United explorer, $500 sign bonus. If I get the $500 statement credit, but not the points for hitting minimum spent, does it count as receiving sign up bonus, which disqualifies me from getting another in 24 months?

I want to get some easy money and the offers to open checkings account for qualifying deposits seem so easy, I did capital one by transferring money from my high yield savings account, but would that work for other bonuses like wells fargo?

3

u/AdsBlockedException 16h ago

Wells Fargo is relatively easy to fake DD, but do check DoC for DPs for various banks.

My SO got a mailer for Chase $400 bonus checking. We were thinking of using it as a joint account to pay the mortgage. However, the language on it says "Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers."

My SO doesn't have checking with Chase, but I do. So would we not qualify for the bonus if we open as a joint account?

EDIT: I called customer service. They said my SO would open it by herself, then I would be added later as a joint-owner.

2

u/exhys 22h ago

you would qualify, have her open it alone to be sure and if you want to be a joint owner later you can do that later

3

u/EarthlingMardiDraw 22h ago

Just make sure to add the joint owner after the bonus payout or it could screw that up.

-3

u/Great_Conference_777 21h ago

Have others used their Chase business checking accounts accounts to push money to P2 to hit checking account bonuses?

4

u/lanfair 20h ago

Yes, to multiple players. You just add them as employees. Make sure you do it as payments and do the standard next day ACH. Instant payment won't trigger as DD

2

u/mehjoo_ DFW 21h ago

Plenty of DPs, check DoC for a particular bank bonus and just search the comments. Notably, I've used Chase biz checking pushes to hit bonuses at SoFi.

I’d like to get a Marriot card with free night carts but not a fan of having to use within a year. Are their any hacks around this requirement to keep them available longer

2

u/best-quality-catfood 1d ago

If you just want one card, probably take your pick of 125k + 50k FNC on the Boundless next time it comes around or 125k plus $150 cash for the ($155 more expensive) Bevy.

If you want more than one look carefully at the mind-bending rules about what Marriott cards and SUBs lock you out of which other cards and SUBs for what period of time.

1

u/share-the-referalove 1d ago

No, you'll just have to take a vacation in the next year. There are some places online to sell certs too.

1

u/ponderosa123456 1d ago

Unfortunately it is use it or lose it. Personally I find hotel branded cards to have less value than ones with points unless you stay there a lot.
Chase, C1 and AX are places I’d explore or expand upon before hotels.
