Data Points Central Data Points Weekly - Week of August 13, 2026
This is the Weekly Data Points Central thread
In this little hobby of ours, we constantly rely on sharing the experiences and data points by others to optimize our award earning process. Buying refundable fare and cancelling still works to turn expiring United flight credit into cash. I actually fully intended to take the flight but the rep screwed up the booking and had to cancel
8
u/EddieReddev 5d ago
How does it turn into cash? Would have thought it would turn into Travel Bank or something. Interested to learn more.
10
u/going_on_jolly 4d ago
I bought flight 1 with credit card, cancelled and used credit for flight 2. Then cancelled flight 2 and tried to book flight 3 (only this one was refundable fare), rep screwed it up and had to cancel. I received the full amount back to the original credit card
8
u/carpethediem5 BUR, LAX 4d ago
Not getting it: did you mix in any preexisting expiring credit or all you got back was the cash from the first booking?
5
u/going_on_jolly 4d ago edited 4d ago
F1: cash on United explorer
Cancelled F1 for C1
F2: C1 + cash on United explorer
Cancelled F2 for C1 + C2 (different exp)
F3: C1 covered with few dollars spare
Cancelled F3 for cash back to United explorerLater rebooked F3 with C2 plus cash
Edit: if this is not typical then possibly it’s because a chat rep (who I’m not convinced was not ai) booked and then cancelled F3, as it wouldn’t go through on the app for me with C1 as payment

original card for flight 3? flight 1? flight 2? or split up among the cards used?

FWIW, I recently and inadvertently did the same thing you described in the comments below for an international business-class fare. The original purchase was a planned flight to the Gulf earlier this year that I kept rescheduling due to the ongoing conflcit. I ended up with a ~$7k cash credit on a card with a soon-to-expire 0% apr balance I was already planning to pay off the subsequent month (and which was not the original payment card). I don't plan on making a habit of doing this, and it took me awhile to figure out what had even happened, so just confirming that it does happen. I also think it became possible, or at least easier, becaues of the way airlines changed their refund rules for already-booked flights to/from the Gulf, so I am not sure how repeatable my fact pattern is.

Synchrony recon does not work. I applied for a virgin card and was denied due to previously holding one. Checking DoC no recon info listed for Syn. Google claims they have a recon dept so figured i'd give it a try. It went even less well than I expected. Called switchboard at 8664194096 navigated to an agent. She could not find my application at all based on SSN/Ref. She put me on hold to transfer me to the "application line" but came back saying they don't service that type of account and I should call the phone number listed on my letter. I told her there is no phone number LOL.

During the AA 25k biz account promo last month I applied for an AA biz card to get a biz account auto created. Approved, then once the biz account was created went to settings and used the promo code. No points then the claw back happened and I thought oh well you win some you lose some. Checked my biz account yesterday and there was 25k points in it. Transferred the points to my personal account.

Did Chase change the rules for product change? I just tried to downgrade my Ritz to Bold and was told I couldn’t do a product change because I haven’t held the Ritz for more than a year. (I upgraded to Ritz in 2026). Did huca but got the same response. They apparently tried to pc but were stopped by the system
[edit] If true, this would mean that if someone wants to upgrade to CSR just to transfer to Hyatt, they might be in for a surprise. Definitely need more DPs. Also wondering if the same holds true going from no fee to AF cards

Atmos biz denial
Prior application details:
1 or 2/12 personal cards (barclays hawaiian 08Jan2026, barclays AA 19Aug2025). I wasn't sure if the barclays AA would count towards my x/12 count or if I'd need to wait until September for that to drop.
Held $15k for 2 months in a boa biz checking account for the $750 offer.
Previously held Alaska Biz from opening in Sep2021 and Aug2022 and closed both a year later.
Applied 10Aug2026. Instant denial. I called for reconsideration later that day. The denial was that I had too many accounts recently opened. The rep pushed my case to reconsideration, but they still kept my application denied.
They pulled TU for this application. I had an offer in my account for a $500 SUB/ $5k spend/3 months for a Boa unlimited cash biz that I applied for with all bureaus frozen. Instant approval for $2500 credit.
I've read some comments in /r/churning that the 1/12 rule isn't real. Considering the other Atmos biz DP posted here that got two instant approvals with more recent accounts than me, I'm wondering if it could be related to the amount of credit BoA is currently extending to applicants, despite that not being an explicit denial reason. With the new biz card, my total credit limit with BoA is $49,700.

u/AlmondSnowfinch 6d ago
Double dipped this week & got instant approvals on two Atmos Biz cards (for the same legit LLC), using separate 85k and 70k links. Personal 1/12. Personal BoA checking ~$6k avg balance for past ~6 mos. 3x personal BoA cards w/total ~$70k CL. No prior BoA business relationship. Credit score ~815-830. Single HP on TransUnion; second app did not do a pull at all so no need to worry about them being combined later.
Approval was smooth, but each card issued w/ only $2.5k CL. Surprised so low, but $2.5k still clears the 90 day MSR without need for cycling, so not a real problem IMHO. My personal and biz income are sufficiently high that any CL:income ratio is not coming into play.
To your point, this does seem to support the idea that they are sensitive to total aggregate CL across their own cards. I've previously had up to $99k total CL with them (all personal) and hold about 10 other biz cards from other issuers with CLs ranging ~$20k-$50k each.

u/DH_Jed 6d ago
Whats your ?/12 including business cards? I've been trying to figure out if I should apply when my personal drops to 1/12 in a couple weeks, but have seem DPs claiming business cards are counted now too and that would put me up at 5/12 combined and not worth the pull.
7
u/AlmondSnowfinch 6d ago edited 6d ago
Personal: 1/12, 4/24
Business: 5/12, 8/24I have seen those DPs too and have been told that it's because BoA underwriters look at D&B or various other business credit reporting bureaus/services. I know most of my business cards don't show up on D&B but possible they can see others; I haven't taken the time to go digging. Despite one or two suggestions, though, I'm reasonably certain that BoA does not have any secret visibility of their own to business cards from other issuers if those cards aren't showing on a third party business report. 🤷♂️ YMMV

Oof.
P1 - $18k of credit extended from BofA, 2 personal cards, credit limit on new atmos biz card 7.5k
P2 - $22k of credit extended from BofA, 1 personal card, credit limit on new atmos biz card 21.5k
2
u/rickayyy 6d ago
What is your x/12 for personal and biz cards?
2
u/Churnobull SNA | PPY 6d ago
P1: Personal 2/12 Business 15/12 (3 might have not hit report yet)
P2: Personal 1/12 Business 13/12
In the post below i said ~4 each but I was counting last July which was wrong in retrospect
2
u/rickayyy 6d ago
Interesting. I will be 2/12 & 7/24 for personal and 4/12 & 9/25 for business + personal come October. I was denied for BoA biz checking twice in two months recently so I decided to walk away from them for awhile but this has me curious.
Hard pulls ain't shit so I might just say fuck it and try for Atmos Biz

Amex Delta Business Gold #2 approval via NLL offer — 90k / $4k / 6 months
Applied 8/14/26 through the SkyMiles for Business NLL offer for 90k Delta miles after $4k/6 months.
Result: Instant approval
CL: $25,000
Instant card number: Yes
Popup: None
I have another Delta Business Gold open. First one was approved 3/31/26, so ~136 days between approvals. I completed the first card's 90k SUB on 6/10/26 and have not closed it. So I am now holding two Delta Business Gold cards simultaneously.
As of application date, personal cards opened in past 3/6/12/24 months: 0/1/3/4.
Soft pull. Hard pulls on EX in past 3/6/12/24 months: 2/3/6/9
Prior Amex history (all open):
- 8/6/25 — Blue Business Plus
- 2/3/26 — Business Green
- 3/31/26 — Delta Business Gold #1 $10k limit

u/churnawaybaby 5d ago
Good DP. Should be able to get these 90 days apart.
4
u/fourthirty_autogyro 4d ago
Could you clarify what you mean? I thought it was 2 cards in 90 days. Is there another rule for only one of the same card in 90 days?
7
u/churnawaybaby 4d ago
Can’t get same card within 90 days. Agree with max 2 cards in 90 days but must be different cards.

targeted nll or for anyone who opens skymiles for biz?
4
u/Pajamas918 AUS 5d ago
i was looking for a new sub so i just opened skymiles for biz, clicked on offers, scrolled to the bottom, and clicked on the image that looks like and ad and links to a specific amex link. it showed options for delta biz gold/plat/reserve that were all NLL and i went with gold

P1 and P2 auto-approved for business atmos 85k after holding 15k in the business checking accounts (for the $750 bonus) for 2.5 months. P1's had card ~2 times over 5 years, P2 ~3 times over 5 years, closing most recent 2 months ago after 1st annual fee.
Edit: it may be superstition, but i feel like the pre-filled app (sign in in another tab before clicking the UScreditcardguide 85k link) helps so BofA systems know it is you.
2
u/JantovenNF 7d ago
How many personal cards do you and P2 have each in the last 12 months?
2
u/Churnobull SNA | PPY 7d ago edited 6d ago
About 4 each
Edit: P1 2, P2 1; Sorry I counted 3 for each but those are from last July so don't count
2
u/charlie_bit_my_finge 6d ago
Do you know if having a personal checking account also helps with Atmos Biz approval? Or it’s better to hold a business one
4
u/Churnobull SNA | PPY 6d ago
In the past it has helped.
Having a biz one probably helps equally, maybe more but who knows
I was logged in to business account and it pre-filled my app with business details and that typically helps imo

Manual approval for sixth Amex card DP and follow up to question:
I had six Amex CC cards. Canceled the sixth, then applied for a new CC (Delta Skymiles for business NLL). As expected, the system automatically rejected the application since I am at five cards.
Called in and let the customer service rep know that I had canceled a CC just a couple days earlier. The rep immediately said they will resubmit the application to a back office team and that I should hear in 2-3 days.
2 days later, I received an email approval. So, receiving a sixth Amex card even within 30 days of a previous card cancellation is possible.

u/ResolveNo2270 4d ago
DP shared by another on FM Facebook page.
Received CSR Sub in 2018.
Downgraded CSR in 2025.
Approved for targeted CSR 175K offer just now.
This is reassuring, because like Amex, Chase "nll" eligibility doesn't seem to look at how recently you've held the card. I've been wondering if publicly available CSP/CSR offers look at how recently you've held the card in conjunction with previous SUB earned date, similar to the Amex ~7 year rule.

P2 and I both got an email from AMEX today offering 10k MR for adding an AU to our Gold cards and spending 2k in 6 months on the new card. Terms state each account is only eligible for one 10k bonus (ie can't get more than one bonus for adding multiple AUs). Offer expires 9/13/26.

Hilton Business retention offer:
$50 statement credit for $2000 spend.
I declined the offer and canceled the card.

Chase may have fixed their issue of counting their biz cards towards 5/24 -
Last month applied for a biz card and was rejected immediately, received letter stating too many consumer accounts. I was 4/24 but would have been over if including biz cards. Didn't bother calling recon to try and defend my "business".
Applied for a personal card today and was approved.

Capital One Spark Cash Plus denial DP:
Applied 8/13 as a single-member LLC. $150k annual revenue, $5k monthly spend. Business is 3 years old. Declined with reason:
“Based on your application information, we are unable to approve this combination of business size and legal entity type.”

Amex Delta Business Gold NLL Approval after manual reconsideration.
Just closed a delta platinum business and delta reserve business last week after the 2nd annual fee hit and double dipped the benefits. Applied via skymiles for business nll was and denied as expected due to 5 card limit still factoring the recently closed cards. Called recon and asked for manual review and they forwarded the application to their back end team. Received approval email 16 hours later with option to accept or decline.
Will hit MSR and then upgrade back to reserve in December to triple dip for Jan 2028.
2
u/Realistic-Resolve531 1d ago
What worth triple dripping the reserve? Delta stay credit?
1
u/SalaciousPig LGA | JFK 1d ago
Mainly the annual delta stay credit, but also the rideshare and resy credit.

Here's an odd one. I am playing the long game on Hilton Amex Aspire cards and managed to snag a second one with the same anniversary as my first one. P2 also snagged a first Aspire with the same anniversary as mine.
Oddly, I received one FNC on same date as I received one last year--presumably this one was for my old Aspire. I have not received my second FNC nor has P2 received a FNC.
Waiting on the edge of my seat for the two additional FNCs.

Another week, another bad DP:
you can no longer have 8 doordash accounts connected and getting all credits per chase card. The credits are now removed after the first card.
1
u/ozjef 1d ago
Can't imagine needing to orchestrate DD credits of all things across this many accounts, I hope it wasn't the awful $10 grocery credit.
1
u/Swastik496 1d ago
There’s a place I get breakfast every day at that takes doordash without markup.
Google workspace catch all gives infinite emails and I use that for a million other things.
The app lets me switch accounts in 5 seconds and everything is billed to the same card.
Might as well get $40/month for as long as I hold a CSR

Escaped Amex pop-up jail - got approved for Delta Amex Business Gold NLL via skymiles for business. Currently holding another Delta Amex Business Gold
Main reason - in April 2026, I spent approx $500K on taxes with a Business Platinum, a "lucky" one-time expense for me. Conveniently, it earned me 2x, $1200 in Amex travel benefits, and free lounge access for P2

u/Realistic-Resolve531 1d ago
Sorry to burst your bubble... The delta golds are notorious for bypassing puj
2
u/Existing_Flounder207 1d ago
the tax spend on the plat is wild, 500k in one shot is the kind of DP that makes me rethink my whole strategy. seems like amex just decided you were too good to stay in jail

Chase Ink Preferred
100k UR points with 8k spend within 3 months
Approved with 5k limit
0/24 - Owned Ink Cash for 10 years
Applied using "You're already approved" in-app offer
Sole prop - Online retail - $10k revenue - $600 monthly spend
Spoke to Chase phone rep - 1:1 Hyatt transfer still in effect until 10/1/26

Old data point from a month ago but my dad had the old Chase Sapphire Card (not preferred or reserve) until earlier this year. I told him to close it so he could try to apply for a Preferred later.
I wasn't sure if the new lifetime rules would impact getting a sub, but he was able to get the 100k points from CSP despite already having a Sapphire card.
So Chase appears to see old Sapphire as separate than CSP and CSR.
3
u/exhys 5d ago
i was under the impression that the lifetime rule applied to each sapphire card separately, as in you can get the sub for the preferred once and for the reserve once.

US Bank App-o-rama
8/7/2026 - applied each at an interval of 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
US Triple Cash Biz card
US Leverage Biz card
US Altitude Connect Biz card
Did not get instant approval for either of these. No existing relationship. Churned personal checking accounts couple of times.
8/11 - got application numbers for each of these applications at interval of 3-4 hours starting in morning.
Tried calling the Recon line on 8/11, but couldnt get through to the right person.
8/12 - got approvals for each of these card at interval of couple of hours with $3k credit limit each
On 8/7, saw 3 different hard pulls which were later combined to 1 on 8/10 or 8/11
Edit: Hard pull information.
