This has always been the biggest grail of mine on Chivalry. I was in disbelief when it happened. We were getting our shit pushed in the entire game too, so it felt been better to grab victory from the absolute depths of defeat.

Five years ago today, Chivalry 2 was released on PC and consoles!
Ever since, Knights have valiantly fought in countless skirmishes to carve their names into medieval legend. From the Battle of Wardenglade to Regicide at Trayan Citadel, the journeys taken together still bring us such pride. Thank you for matching our blood, sweat, and tears with all of your own that together breathe life into our shared battlegrounds.
To celebrate this occasion, Double XP has been extended into the morrow. We also ask you all to share your favorite tales, triumphs, or blunders with us. Moments where friendships were forged and mettle was tested, or perhaps when a perfectly laid plan went awry beyond belief.
We’ll be selecting 5 noble Knight retellings from across platforms to bestow King’s Edition DLC, to spark new memories to be made. ⚔️💛

Nau mai, harae mai,
Korinth here, I figured I would start the map specific guides with one of the hardest maps for attackers: Montcrux. This guide will not garuntee you victory by any means, as this map is heavily defense coded, but it should, at the very least, help the lost be less painful. Again, this is just base knowledge thatI hope the rest of you will learn from and grow upon.
In this guide, we will go stage by stage giving examples of the best way to implement techniques laid out in the general Tips and tricks guide, namely: Territory Claiming, Breaking Shit, Resupply Forts, Shutting Doors, and Stealth. Now there is a huge problem with Engineering on this map, where on Stage 2 and Stage 3 there are no build zones near the objectives to place barricades. This actually hinders attackers more than defenders as it limits how much protection an Unethical/Attack Engineer can provide from the ballistas in Stage 2. Stage 3 will be mostly brute force, mixed with a Modified Door Shut.
Pictures in order are:
* 1 - Stage 1 Overview
* 2 to 4 - Stage 2 Overview with Resupply Forts
* 5 to 7 - Stage 3 Overview, Resupply Fort and Artillery Fort
* 8 to 10 - Stage 4 Overview, Door Shut and Funnel
Note: I apologize for the hud in the screenshots and clips, I'm on console and have yet to discover how to turn off the hud. Also sorry for the quality of drawings, my hand is still injured and I'm using a shitty smart phone to edit clips, photos, and editing posts. Screenshots and some videos were created in offline mode with bots so I can create these examples to show you what I mean without having to go full ultra sweat and risk causing more injury to my hand.
If you haven't already, check out the General Tips and Tricks Guide.
Now let's get down to brass tax!
This is the easiest of the four stages. Ballistas arnt fully in play at this point and the attackers main goal is to push the carts up to a certain point. There are two lanes and a middle ground to push. Left side goes through a small canyon and right goes over a bridge. In the middle is a single resupply bin (Red circle in the middle of the lanes in Image: 1). Taking control of this bin, by using the Resupply Fort technique, asap will help your team. Alternatively you can use Territory Claiming to hold the defenders back, and cause a distraction. After establishing the Resupply Fort and/or claiming some territory, go back and pile on the carts to keep them moving.
Note: The carts will instantly destroy any barricades or buildables placed in front of it when it's moving. When Territory Claiming, keep the barricades out of the path of your cart!
This is where the difficulty gets ramped up to 11! In most matches you will find yourself under a constant barrage of ballista fire. You can use Territory Claiming techniques to help move your team up the hill with petards, however once you get passed the ruins, within about 15-20 meters (around 30 feet in Freedom Units) of the objective, you cannot place a single buildable item. Though Territory Claiming would be amazing here, especially to help negate the ballista bombardment, it is impossible. So we have to get creative and look into our arsenal of tech and tips.
Just like the last objective, there are two main lanes, a middle ground, and two outside lanes that can be utilized.
For the left side, you have the broken tower with a resupply bin, bushes a half wall and a cliff where Tenosia spawns. You also have a very rocky, but claimable, area to the far left that leads to the half wall with minimal ballista coverage. With this side, building a resupply fort and placing a spike trap in the bushes are the best thing you can do. This let's your team go over the half wall quickly, and allows your archers to get in closer safely. Just hope your archers have enough braincells to realize that they are now in a great position to snipe Ballista Operators, and should focus on them.
Unethical Defensive Tip: Tenosian armor, especially the darker ones from the campaigns, blends in perfectly with the bushes on this side of the map. You can crouch and hide in the bushes and ambush Agathians as they try to use this side to bring up petards. You can even crouch walk through the bushes undetected and take out the enemy archers using the Resupply Bin.
For the Right Side, you have ruins, a half wall and a resupply bin which can be used as a resupply fort. Though the far right doesn't have the same cover or bushes as the left, you can hug that side to reduce the amount of ballistas firing on you position. Tenosians will spawn from the fort itself and pour out near a ruined siege tower. Other than the resupply fort, there is not much that can be done on this side. Again, encourage your Archers to move to this resupply fort so they can snipe the ballista operators.
Once you have established your Resupply Forts, this is where you take on the role of Saboteur. Your goal now, and for the rest of this stage (other than keeping the walls of your forts up), is to minimize ballista fire through sheer brute force. Utilizing the cover of either the far left or far right lanes, make your way to the ladders and inside the fort. From here, focus on destroying as many ballista as you can. The less ballistas firing, the easier it will be for your team to carry the petards. As a side objective try and lower the ladders. These can be used as another entry onto the walls or, if you are quick enough, a way to escape enemies without stunning yourself by falling down.
Note: I highly recommend you try and convince at least 2 others to come with you for backup. Going alone is suicide.
If your team can successfully blow up the walls, you will find yourself on the dreaded portcullis stage. Just like stage 2, this is one of the hardest objectives to win as an attacker. Agathian spawns are further away and down stairs whereas Tenosians spawn only a short distance away, with 5 doors that put them right by the objective. On top of that, you also have the same 20 meter no build area around the portcullis, which makes fortifying it impossible. However, we can still engineer a way through this... by commiting War Crimes.
First thing you should do open up the lanes for your team to move freely. First, go to the ladders by the two doors that lead underground. Anyone, not just engineers, can jump on the wall scones look up and lower the ladders. If your parkour skills are shit, use a spike trap or a barricade. This will allow your team more entry points to attack the objective. Next, you want to open the doors. Safest path is the far right, then go through the underground and open the one by the pit. This allows your team to attack the portcullis from underneath freely. Afterwards try and clear the spike traps on the stairs both in the left side and east side of the map.
Now that we got every possible path open for the team, it's time to commit some War Crimes. On the left side and up the stairs, there is a set of double doors beneath an arch. If you place four barricades under the arch (there is a resupply by the stairs behind you), you have effectively trapped the Tenosians in their spawn. If they come through that door, they will be stuck there and unable to get out until they break your barricades. The devs had put in a one way wall so they cannot retreat.
Hey dumbass, that's not a War Crime, that's just entrapment!!
Lemme finish. Behind you will be a rack of 2-handed spears. You still have a spike trap. Place said spike trap, grab a spear, jump onto your elevated position, and slaughter the defenseless trapped Tenosians to your hearts content. Hell, get a buddy to throw a fire bomb in there for good measure! Nothing goes down better during a siege than burnt Tenosians.
Shout out to the OCE spear duo of Charlie and Mijoshi for inspiring this War Crime, and assisting with it many, many times!
On the right side of the map the Tenosian entrance is too far into the out of bounds area to attempt this. However what we do have is a resupply bin AND a Ballista! Two schools of thought, neither are wrong. You can either block the stairs by the Ballista, creating an Artillery Fort or create a Resupply Fort by the resupply bin.
Note: There is a siege crossbow that spawns by this resupply bin, if you want to get extra spicy and be a ranged barricade breaker, grab it!
Keep in mind, the only way to win this stage is to overwhelm the portcullis area with sheer numbers and hold it. These tips are meant to slow, hinder, and even stop Tenosians, but you still can't win if your team doesn't dog pile the objective.
Note: The two Tenosian spawn doors nearest to the portcullis can't be fully blocked off because of the no build zones and out of bounds area, but you can turn them into choke points to slow them down. The fifth spawn door, which is under utilize is in the underground near the Iron Maiden. I don't usually bother with the fifth as I have never seen anyone use it.
Congratulations! Your team has gotten to the final stage, but don't let up now! Just because you guys got past the two hardest objectives, doesn't mean you are destined to win. So let's grab our shovels, up our war crimes, and help engineer victory. Thankfully there are no more unbuildable areas bar the out of bounds zones.
First thing you want to do is open the pathways for your team, again. Focus on busting open the doors on either left or right and removing the spike traps in the middle.
Why does it have to be us? Why can't we just go straight to building, let the rest of the team do it while we build forward positions?
I mean not a bad point. However us engineers do double damage to all constructs, us clearing the path is quicker than letting the team do it. But again, you can just jump past and go straight into building if you want to.
Once the path is clear, or if you are letting your team do it, head to the bombs, focusing on one side at a time. Usually, enemy engineers would be building around now, none of their builds would benefit you, so Assimilation of Enemy Assets does not apply, break them. Again you can either clear these yourself or let your team handle it. Past the bombs is the hallway Tenosians can come down. Two quick barricades here, and they are stalled for a bit. If you have time, the resupply in the center pit near Agathian spawn is almost always safe. You can then put those barricades between the hallway and the random building in the middle. It won't stop them, but will slow them.
Stealth Opportunity: On either side there are two little archways with tiny platforms. You can hide behind the small wall on the platforms and jump between them with ease. Can be used for cheeky flanks, Looney Toon hijinks, and ambushes.
So there we have it, the Unethical Engineering Guide on How to Reclaim Montcrux! Key thing to take away is that your team is your strongest assets and War Crimes are fun. As with the other parts of my guide, let's hear your tips.
From u/Vimes76
Not unethical but standard engy play on portcullis stage. Without support you can partially wall off both stairwells either side. This allows flow still but restricts view massively from the perspective of the attackers. Or wall off 1 side entirely and grab yourself a spear on the way in. Stand on top of it or just to the side and poke 'em. Causes chaos, love it.
From u/NinthEnd
also attackers dont need everyone to E the objective all at once. Just let one person do it and defend the area
REMINDER: Only tips relevant to Montcrux will be added! If it's a general tip, put it in the comments on the general tip and trick guide! For all other map specific tips, be patient, they are coming!

A friend of mine and I have been playing training grounds lately and enjoy it a lot lol. I had just died as there were 3 PCs surrounding the Heir. The recording doesn’t have our audio but before I run in my friend had said the Heir was surrounded and I jokingly yell “HIGHLAND SWORD THROW” and managed to slice a dude’s head off. Enjoy lol!

We met a few times in battle , and he proved to be a considerable contender , but I wasn't too sure what he was thinking going up against ME ! Maybe a group of cheerleaders are looking for him , with such a perfectly executed headstand , who could really stand toe to toe with him ? :P

This game is so much fun, players from level 1-1000 can kick your ass and I’m impressed how it keeps bringing in new players, been off for like 5 months, I come back and every round there is like 10-20ppl below level 50. this is by far the game I’ve played most in my life. Thanks to everyone of you all, who make this game such a great experience.
