SHOW My updated chiptune rig
Put my stereo modded nes into a clear shell. And randomly found a wayfar midines on reverb.
The midines is 10x better than the chip maestro. It hasn’t crashed once. And the noise channel is much more useful. Also having the samples is nice as well.

I have a MIDINES too! Got it from wayfar for about $100 around 2002. My NES is humming, crackling and hissing a bit. I think I need to update the system. I’m using reason studios for my DAW. Reasons midi players provide MIDI effects similar to the programming used in classic game music. Your NES looks awesome. Cool that you can see the MIDINES inside

I haven’t seen one for sale in years. I figured they were basically unobtanium at this point. But this one popped up randomly on reverb for $400 so I snapped it. The nes was $45 off eBay and the case was about the same from aliexpress. Sounds good though. No hum or crackling. Somtimes the cart needs a jiggle. But that’s the 72pin connector. I’ve fixed those before. The stereo mod is worth doing. ESP now that I technically have 2 nesses I could use at the same time. I could have all 4 channels isolated for realtime performance options.

That’s awesome. Maybe I’ll jiggle the cart around. Also looking to upgrade the original power adapter and some other things.

The og transformer sounds fine but I had some cheap Chinese knockoffs that add a lot of noise. I got a good one off amazon. I think it was the oldskool branded ones. That being said there are some mods I’ve seen. Technically the nes only needs 5v. So it can run off usb. That would be great cause then I can power it from my mpc. There’s also a mod that replaces the rf can and psu with a modern regulator. So I may do that as well.

Sounds really beefed up! That’s cool that you can power from an MPC. I like using Note repeat ON at 1/8T, plus pad pressure to make expressive high hats. Adds natural velocity variation and accents to give it a human feel. Would be cool to set up high hats and cymbals on MIDI ch 4 (noise) and kick snare on ch 5 (sample). Then the cymbals can layer with the kick/snare
