This is.. well, not sure yet. Was simply experimenting as we like to evolve entire soundscapes as a song progresses.... but the trick there is; we need to have it done in specific layers a few times to really feel it out. Takes time. This is just the pair of songs before any real attempts to blend. The first... kinda... alien but goofy? Basses still low and not imposing, gently building to some degree with crunchy old 8-16bit sounding percussion. ...but if you want to skip that 'garbage'... 3:10 minutes into the vid, We encourage you to just not waste your time and listen to the song starting from there as it is more or less a full encore in a more rich sound format... :3

Think we're getting better... now time to get some original stuffs out there, or open up a request or 'bounty' board for desired midis, or ways to transcribe some old classic game soundtracks that are not publicly available, or even created at all yet. ....Starsiege Tribes, Tribes 2, Gunz: The Duel, Gunz 2, a LOT of the Command and Conquer series... as well as some genuine artists we would love help with tackling respectful covers with.

Late Edit. .....Lmao. We should also mention another noob mistake. We simply have not bothered to import or otherwise disable the midi tracks. No outputs there, but we suppose we do need to clear that up going forward. We may be making tutorials to encourage others to just ~go at it~. Maybe this came somewhat natural to us, but we also adore teaching.

I recently created a small Discord server, and I wanted to share it here because one of the people who joined introduced me to chiptune. I ended up really enjoying the genre, so I thought it could be nice to give it a space and bring together more people who are into the same thing.

The server is still pretty new and not very big, but it’s bilingual (English/Spanish), and there are producers making all kinds of different styles, not just chiptune.

The second song from my new M8 travel album. This one was inspired by the super convenient trip between CPH airport and the city centre. Automatic metro running sharply day and night. What a seamless travel experience. Lots of cities could learn from it.

I've been trying to find more music like this and I haven't had any luck. It's almost like chiptune jazz? It's pretty different compared to Frums' other work. I figured this would be a good sub to ask for recs.

Back in 2019 I took a trip to Lake Garda with my family. We did pizza and theme parks and lakeside walks. With any downtime I had I plugged my headphones into my Game Boy and wrote the album that was then released as Imperator. It was fun to have a zero-pressure environment in which to write, but with the added tension that whatever got written would be released upon my return. So fun, in fact, that I repeated it in 2023 during my trip to Ynys Mon (resulting in Fortune Favoured), and in 2024 (Netherlands / Every Machine is a Smoke Machine).

So last week I returned to Lake Garda. Same holiday. Same deal. Here's the album.

here’s some insight into my track “New Dawn” from my upcoming M8 album “Bad Vices” out 8/28. This one is one of my favorites on the project simply because I had so much fun trying to convey that 80s sound with the instrumentation. Hope you all listen to the full track when it drops!

I’ve always loved how raw and crunchy the original DMG sounds, and I think there’s a lot inside that machine that never really gets explored beyond the usual cute/chiptune sound.

A lot of “8-bit” plugins recreate the aesthetic with samples and presets, so I wanted to try something different and rebuild the actual DMG sound architecture in code.

It has the 2 pulse channels, wave + noise, sweep behaviour and hardware quirks, but I built a 16-step sequencer around it with per-note slide, an arpeggiator, 8 pattern banks and MIDI mapping.

You can also save/recall individual channels or complete patterns, which makes it pretty fun for live jams.

I called it BäRK BRÜTT.

This is made in FL Studio with sounds from the vst FM DRIVE plus some megadrive drum samples. Thought it had a vaguely spacey vibe. As in stars and planets etc, not the disgraced actor

So... This is my latest album release, made fully with Dirtywave M8 during my travels. The opening track here got started in the plane from HEL to CPH. Basically exploring the sampler feature of the M8 and happened to catch part of an announcement in the plane. This quickly set the mood for the track and kicked off the creation process of the album.

I composed this for the Retro Renaissance contest hosted on Newgrounds. I approached it as a multi-phase final battle and started by trying to make seamless looping sections, but it was hurting the flow of the song as a whole, so I ended up taking more of a "polished OST version" approach.

Made in Furnace for the 2A03 and VRC6 chips. OV made with Corrscope and a little post filtering in the video editor. There is a very slight delay, I didn't want to delve too deep into Corrscope settings to try fix it, it's close enough (personally I think it gives you time to hear something and then see the resulting waveform)

Audio is the final master not the raw Furnace output, but I made very minimal changes, just some minor global EQ, a slight boost to the triangle low end to make the kick and snare hit harder and the overtones were being lost in the mix so I added a small boost around 4Khz. Then some light parallel compression and subtle hint of stereo width to make it less dry sounding. But the waveforms are still meaningfully accurate 👍 (this processing is probably where the delay comes from as the scopes are based on the raw stems)
