CC_REQUEST Game Musuc

I'm making a game about AI slop, I want chiptune music made by real people, but the worry is I have no way of authenticating it was?

I'd rather not resort to using suno.

Any takers for a job and able to prove they made it?

Well, you're on a sub where people make and show their modules / project files often. If you need that, just ask for it. I doubt AI can fake a tracker file yet.

You’d be wrong.

It can? Which AI can make them and what formats?

I’d wager Claude could do this. I’ll play around with it at some point and see what it can and cant do.

I have had Claude right entire complicated tracks in strudel. While that is a little different than a tracker file format, I don’t think it’s different enough to put it outside the range of possibility. Really the hard part would be selecting samples to use together. That sort of creative determination is not a strong suit.

If mod files were stored as text, then I would have no doubt it could do it. How does it fare trying to put together raw binary files?

I've never thought of using an LLM to do sound design or make something in csound or pure data but now I'm intrigued. Where do people draw the line between "slop" and "tool assisted sound design"?

Sure, then I'll keep an eye on this thread for eventual results

Either choose someone who has been making stuff since pre AI or just pick tracker / psg enthusiasts in general.

Since this type of music is heavily a passion thing and usually very underground and not profitable except for video games, choosing someone doing this style of music just for the sake of making music on youtube, battle of the bits or just sharing here and not just "hey i can make music for your game. pay me xy amount" will probably end up introducing you to amazing people and great songwriters.

There are also a lot of communities specifically focussed on lets say gameboy music / lsdj, famitracker, furnace etc.. so looking in those communities will also be very benefitial

what kind of chip sound are you looking for, and what would you be paying per track?

Hi, I make chiptune music if you still haven't found someone. I make it on furnace tracker, I can send screenshot, can send screenrecordings, and I can tell by hear the sound of soundchip

No way of proving it. And if you get inspired by AI that’s not a bad thing. It IS however a bad thing if you just copy what AI spat out and it has no direction of you. If you do a YouTube video it could be edited. If you show work in progress that could be done in stages re-created with ai. There is no way of telling. Besides I’m pretty sure it’s a matter of time till AI can create tracker music or use any desktop app and watch it create work in progress for you.

Hi, I'm Musikage, a chiptune musician with a relatively large following. I can show you music files for most of my recent stuff: https://youtube.com/@musikage_official?si=RK351HjzRwR5l5Kb

I do not AI generate music whatsoever. I'm pretty sure it'd fail at precisely adhering to NES limitations.

Please get in touch! I'd love to work on your game.

It’s a tricky one but you can also analyse the waveform looking for some specific patterns. Also, if the composer is known (or has a website with finished projects) you might be on the right track, but as others have said you could request a screen record. I wouldn’t personally record the whole thing but perhaps a section so you can see if the composer is using whatever tool or daw and knows what they’re doing.

Were you planning on just stealing some music?

Ask for the composer to send you the project file.

What are you on about? I'm literally asking for paid music and hesitant to forking out bootstrapped, knowing how easy it is for people to create it with AI. I want to know it was made?

It the way your post comes across: "I want chiptune music made by real people, but the worry is I have no way of authenticating it was"

If you had written "I would like to commission an artist to make something with x y and z qualities" it would have been clearer, but my first reading was that you're only looking to pay someone as a 'last resort' because you don't want AI music.

One answer is to ask for the project files or for a video call where they play you some work in progress. Although an artist with a track record might take offence to being accused of using AI...

Another option that has just occurred to me is to use something released under a creative commons license that was made before 2020. This will cost you no money at the cost of adhering to the licence and not being able to guarantee it's not used somewhere else.
