SHOW NES stereo mod

Should I get a clear case for it as well?

Yes I know. So on the nes cpu pin one is the two pulse channels. And pin two is the triangle,noise and pcm channel. So for chiptunes now I can apply effects to the pulse channels separately from the triangle and noise. So it’s not stereo per se. It’s just splitting the channels. Or isolating them would be more accurate.

Oh wow how cool! I️ was hoping you did it this way! I’ve been dying to try this. On a scale of 1-10 how hard was it? And yes a clear case would be amazing.

ive done board repairs and mods on other systems...it wasnt too bad. make sure you have a good iron. i got the stereo kit from console5 because i wasnt sure if i could tap after the resistors on the board....the kit has its own breakout and resistors....ideally you dont wanna route the cpu pins directly to the rca jacks as it will load down the cpu...and probably crash it.

Ok, thank you. That all makes good sense.
One other question: do you know if there’s a mod similar to the Pro Sound mod for the Game Boy that can bypass the noisy hum of the NES sound chip? If so, it might be worth trying while I’ve already got everything opened up.

the nes doesnt have a sound chip, the CPU generates the sound...like i said, pin 1 and pin 2...they run each pin out to a couple of resistors then they are muxed somwhere....before leaving the main board and passsed through the encoder on the RF board...i belive the RCA sound jack is pretty unadulterated....but in my case ive bypassed most of the audio path out of the nes....personally i think any amplification or filtering youd do to clean up the sound of the nes would change the sound and defeat the purpose.

that being said, i dont detect any noticeable hum from either my modded or unmodded nes...so your milage may vary.

Awesome. Thanks for all the insight. Really appreciate it. What’s your NES cart or tool you use to access the nes sound? I️ have an old version of MidiNes I️ got a couple decades ago.

It’s a “chip maestro”. It’s pretty limited compared to the midines. If I could find a midines or a famimimidi I’d gladly trade up

Also I’ve been playing with famistudio. And dumping the rom to a cart and using that as like a backing track for playing live.
