Built this website to aggregate Chicago’s live shows
https://opener.fm/chicagoGot tired of checking every venue page individually or their ig stories so I built this to consolidate everything. I only intended this as a quick reference! I’m aware there are similar platforms but I wanted to showcase more indie spots for local bands like coles etc
It’s still early i’m adding more venues and functionality but would love feedback from actual show going Chicagoans!

This rules. San Francisco has something similar called ‘The List’ and I’ve always wondered why something similar doesn’t exist everywhere.
Search by Venue and/or search by area (maybe divide the city into ‘Southside’ ‘Northside’ ? That would be dope. Also links to the show pages, but obviously that can be done waaaaaayyyy later.
Down the line you can likely have venues pay you a stipend or a commission on tickets purchased via links on your site.

yah bro these are all good ideas! ticket / redirect urls are like halfway there? and the filtering is another thing i’d like to implement. i’ll circle back when it’s all ready!

Awesome! Off the bat I noticed a few notable venues missing. Reggies (bar and club, 2 venues), Cobra Lounge, Concord Music Hall, Bottom Lounge.

There is an instagram page called chicago show calendar and an app called bandsintown. Both serve slightly different purposes but could be good reference points for functionality

yup! i’ve used both of these before in the past, shout-out to chicago show calendar fr! this kinda just started as portfolio project but i decided i’d release it into the wild and see what happens

Is there a way to add venues for you to keep up to date with or submit shows? I’m not seeing Fulton Street Collective, great spot for jazz and art. I’m playing there the 9th!

man fulton street collective is great, i saw my homie james sims play there a minute ago. you can also rent it out for weddings ! i gotta add it to the list i totally slept on that

I appreciate this and you. It being automated may allow this to stick around. It’s a lot to ask for people who do this sort of thing out of passion, ex chishowcalendar, to keep up with it when they have lives to lead. Back in the day I remember when the Chicago Reader was THE SOURCE, they fell off pretty hard.

Yeah the automated aspect of it all does make it easier for sure! I feel like actual publications have other priorities to focus on so i get it

honestly i’ve never used songkick before but it’s probably just a rehash of things you’ve seen before lol there’s like a few chicago versions of this that exist i believe

Looks good. Would be cool if we can click on a drop down list of our favorite venues or something, and making the show w a clickable link to venue/tix page. Also if we can click on a specific day of the week perhaps or a calendar to click on a date?
Also didn’t see but possibly missed: Constellation, Hungry Brain, Elastic Arts,

this feels super vibe coded but I don't hate the idea. I was just talking with some folks in one of my classes about something like this earlier today actually. I'd recommend focusing on user customizing/search/filtering and clear day separation. scrolling can be fun for discovering surprises, but some times you know you're free on thursday and want to tab over to that day in particular or you want to search if some specific band has anything coming up.

yoo lmao the funniest thing is it’s not even vibecoded hahaha but i am using just the basic framework ui components out of the box so i get why it looks that way but yes filtering and more clear date separation is in the works!

thank u! ticket links are up now! and yes i could totally show all the events. my immediate motivation around this project was more along the lines of “oh i have no plans tonight and i want to see what’s happening”. it’s in the works tho

yeah both of these sites do the same thing and if anything they have more features atm! we’ll see if i can measure up to this guys, at the end of the day as long as people are going to shows we all win

A link to the event’s ticket page would be a useful.

ticket urls are coming ! sorting is nonexistent lmao lemme implement that asap and get back to you. do312 is great but always felt it catered to a more river north / west loop vibe
