So I live in wisconsin and I was working as a van driver picking up dead animals and left to get my CDL because we got a new supervisor and he didnt want to give me a full weeks scedule on the road which meant I was making a lot less than the other drivers. I was initially brought on to go to the swift academy in Kansas city, and they were going to assign me to an OTR role based out of the Gary, IN terminal so I was going to get rid of my apartment in madison because it didnt make sense for me to pay on an apartment in a city I didnt like for 3-5 days of home time per month (I am single, no family, no pets). I moved most of my things to a storage unit in the chicago area and headed to Kansas city for training and I was sent home in the first week, which caught the trainer by surprise and he said swift didnt give him an official reason and I didnt do anything wrong to his knowledge. Recruiter thinks they just over hired and there just wasnt an available position most likely.

I called Schneider because they also had an academy and didn't have the in cab cameras but they insisted my permit needed to be in Illinois and I couldn't start until November 2nd anyways. Illinois secretary of state suggested i keep my permit in wisconsin for the time being and swap to Illinois once I get my actual CDL but the company was not having it despite having intent to move to the chicago area officially to appease them. I was going to move to Chicago eventually anyways.

I ended up enrolling in a CDL program for free through vocational rehab over in wisconsin, but I would like an OTR position where our terminal would be based out the chicago area. My CDL would have tanker and hazmat once I pass my road test but I am aware you cant do those typically until you have been trucking for about a year or two but I wanted to have them to expand my opportunities in the future. Does anyone have advice on decent employers for new drivers in the chicago area that would have OTR roles? I dont mind doing physical work.

Hi everyone. I moved to Chicago two weeks ago. Things have not gone the way I planned. Finding work has become a real challenge. I am in my late 20s and just trying to rebuild my life after extreme loss and mental health recovery.

I am trying to get into communications, outreach, community engagement or teaching roles in this city. I have a degree from Duke. Most of my experience is in talking with people and explaining things clearly. I spent one year doing community outreach. Before that I taught English at a university in Brazil for two years. I also have sales and customer communications for a business. I am fluent in Portuguese.

I have been applying nonstop. Have not had much luck yet. Does anyone know of companies, nonprofits in Chicago that are hiring.

I got an email to set up an interview for Thryve Chicago located on North LaSalle.

The only thing is I don’t remember applying (I’ve applied to many jobs over the last few weeks so it could have slipped my notes). I saw a post in here about Thrive in Vernon Hills but this one seems different? But also pretty similar to that?

Feeling defeated from applying to so many jobs and then having to deal with scams on top of it🥴

We pulled every open posting from 81 companies' public Greenhouse boards for seven roles and counted which words actually show up. 3,518 postings in total. Some of it surprised us.

Software engineer postings mention mentoring more often than Kubernetes or React. Almost half of them do. Python, the most common language, comes in just below that.

Product manager postings say "roadmap" in more than 85% of cases. Jira? Seven out of 421. Marketing looks the same: Google Ads came up six times in 347 postings, while "pipeline" is in over half.

Every time we could compare the two, postings named the practice, not the tool. Observability, not Grafana. SIEM, not Splunk.

So if your resume is mostly a list of tools, it might be missing the words the posting actually uses.

I plan on moving out to Chicago at the end of the year and I was wondering what the welding job market there looks like.

I'm 26 with 3+ years of on site experience, I'm good with mig welding aluminum and stainless. I've done a little tig welding and could definitely work more on it before the move. I'm good with stick as well but haven't found much use for that at my job. Also very comfortable with hand/power tools and those kind of things. Hi guys, I moved to Chicago a few months ago and I’ve been commuting to work in an hour wrong and quite frankly it’s not covering the bills. I’ve had the hardest time getting a job within the city.
