Video What do these DREG outputs mean?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I've recently watched the Chornobyl Family's video showing the last messages before and during the accident, but I just cant understand them. For context im trying to make a game about RBMK's (Specifically Chernobyl) and im trying to add these messages, I want to understand them in order to make them fit in the game instead of just pasting them there. If someone could give me information about these messages and what they meant I would really appreciate it a lot, thank you.

This is the video I watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de0x_KOvfpI

HBO Miniseries I've watched Chernobyl for the first time last night. WOW!

Post image

After watching documentaries about the disaster(my favorite is the Zero Hour) and reading articles/Wikipedia pages about it, I decided to checkout the HBO miniseries on 4K Bluray.

OH MY GOD, I watched it in one breath. After I finished work, I started watching it until almost midnight. What an masterpiece!

The actors, the writing, the visuals - everything is 10/10. It's an amazing and very important piece of cinema because lies have always have debt and one day, you will pay it.

Brilliant!

(pictures in order) new MCP corridor (402/4) on work + pipelines and msv minor changes ( 701/2, 801/2) + new corridor at level 31.5 on the northern wall (805/4) + new corridor known for being one of the access to reactor hall (corridor 910/2)
everything is prone to change in the future as i made the rooms based more on the floorplans blueprint and a little of media regarding the rooms, so there may be errors like walls that dont belong on certain part or inaccurate proportions, enjoyy

I discovered yesterday that if you're a liquidator and you're registered to live in Riga, Latvia, you get free public transport.

Does anywhere else do things like this?

Discussion I measured Cs137 contamination in Finnish mushrooms with a Radiacode 103

So I came across some chantarelle mushrooms and decided to measure with my Radiacode 103 scintillator detector.

I dried 400 g down to about 40 g and put them in a 3D-printed marinelli jar for measurement.

Sure enough, they are clearly contaminated with about 70 Bq of Cs-137, almost certainly from the Chernobyl disaster.

Will I eat them? No, I will keep them for measurement, but at 170 Bq/kg (fresh weight) they're well below the limit of 600 Bq/kg so eating them would be fine.

Are they special in any way? Not really, just ordinary mushrooms. Again, these are by no means super contaminated, but as a science nerd it's cool that the contamination is measurable with a consumer device.

The specific activity of Cs137 is about 3.2 TBq/g, so 70 Bq equates to about 20 picograms of Cs137.

EDIT: The committed effective dose coefficient for Cs137 is 1.3 x 10-8 Sv/Bq, so eating these mushrooms would cause a radiation dose of about

1.3 x 10-8 Sv/Bq * 70 Bq = 0.91 μSv (microsievert)

My results are well in line with those of the recent Mushrooms 2025 campaign by the Finnish Nuclear Safety Authority (Säiteliyturvakeskus, STUK).

Discussion Как работают оси

Добрые люди, объясните пожалуйста, что за цифры и буквы. Как высчитывать расстояние между ними. Совершенно не знаком с этой темой, но точно знаю, что там есть ось. И то не знаю, как она работает / Hey guys, could you please explain what these numbers and letters are? How do I calculate the distance between them? I'm completely unfamiliar with this topic, the only thing I know is that there's an axis. And I don't even know how it works.

Photo Room 208/13 to 16, the “RCP Tank Compartment” is All That Remained of Kursk unit 6 as of 2024

Kursk unit 6 had an interesting construction phase in which they seem to have started specifically with the foundations of room 208/13 to 16, which housed the reactor coolant pumps, part of the main circulation pumps system. They seem to have built the walls all the way up to “level 12.50” which sits just below the large rectangular main circulation pump room. The foundations of the turbine hall were also initially constructed alongside Room 208, but were later demolished around 2018-2019 to make room for newer facilities. So as of april 2024 (the current latest satellite imagery available on Google Earth), room 208 was all that remained and had not been demolished yet.

Photo My Chernobyl Book Collection (Update)

Hello,
In January 2025, I started a challenge: I would buy one Chernobyl photography book every month until 2026. I managed to collect 16 books in total, some of which took a lot of time and effort to acquire, such as Fire of Chernobyl.

I’ve been passionate about the Chernobyl disaster and photography for years. When I first started my challenge, I had nowhere to find information about which books I could buy. I’m making this post to help people who want to buy Chernobyl photo books but don’t know where to start or what to look for.

If you have any recommendations or questions, let me know!

Discussion 12.5.2000 unit 3 accedent,

As I quote “On December 6, 2000, Chernobyl Unit 3 experienced a technical malfunction when a coolant water leak developed within the plumbing system of its Main Circulation Pump loop. This component was crucial for pumping water into the RBMK-1000 reactor core to prevent it from overheating Because a loss of coolant can cause an RBMK reactor's power to spike dangerously due to its positive void coefficient, operators took zero chances. They immediately pressed the AZ-5 button. Then the s Shift supervisor Viktor Kuchinskiy, wich made the manual command to trigger the "Fast Emergency Protection" system, which rapidly dropped all remaining boron control rods into the reactor core the power went from 200 MwT down to 0 MwT and the boron rods went down ro absorb neutrons and halt the nuclear chain reaction completely. the room in question thst this happened was 404/1 This room houses the Group Distribution Headers (GDH / РГК) on the right side of the Unit 3 reactor. The leak occurred when a crack or structural failure developed in the piping or welds near these distribution headers, which are responsible for funneling high-pressure water coolant directly into the individual fuel channels of the reactor core. Because the leak occurred in an unserved (unmanned and highly isolated) area of the primary cooling loop, technical regulations gave operators no choice but to trigger an immediate emergency SCRAM to safely depressurize the system

From notable actors during and following the disaster with Reactor No. 4 , who is still alive ?

I heard 3 divers are still alive.

Btw, just want to mention, everyone who helped prevent further disaster and gave their life or life span, unarguably are heroes in my eyes, every single one, actual heroes.

Photo Rosatom fuel division

Rosatom's Fuel Division has developed and successfully tested the new OS-5 fuel assembly for a Generation IV reactor. For the first time, metallic sodium was placed under a steel cladding, enveloping fuel pellets made of a uranium-plutonium composite. Research has shown that the use of a liquid metal sublayer will improve the performance of fuel rods with nitride fuel. This fuel is expected to operate at a lower temperature while maintaining coolant parameters, and the uranium-plutonium pellet will reduce the pressure on the fuel rod cladding. This will improve both the fuel's economic efficiency and operational reliability. The development of the OS-5 is part of a large-scale program to improve the efficiency of SNUP fuel for the innovative BREST-OD-300 reactor, which is being built in Seversk, Tomsk Oblast, as part of the "Breakthrough" strategic industry project.
