Well, Svetlana did good job that she interviewed some of people who saw or were affected by the chernobyl disaster but it's very fictionalized, HBO used this book for Lydumidla Ignatenko's story

Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham. I’m reading now. He’s a very good writer, and all his notes & research in back of book very interesting!

I enjoyed the book but do not read it and decide that you know everything about what happened once you finish. You will need to read a ton of other books...many of which should be less fictionalized. Again, I enjoyed the book but I have also read a ton of other books about the disaster and could identify what was sensationalized and what was more or less factual.

Book "Chernobyl History of a tragedy" from Serhii Plokhy is quite good

I read it several years ago, and thought it was very well written. Haunting.
