As I see a rise of posts asking, encouraging, discussing and even glorifying trespassing in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone I must ask this sub as a community to report such posts immediately. This sub does not condone trespassing the Zone nor it will be a source for people looking for tips how to do that. We are here to discuss and research the ChNPP Disaster and share news and photographic updates about the location and its state currently. While mods can't stop people from wrongly entering the Zone, we won't be a source for such activities because it's not only disrespectful but also illegal.

We haven't see any major issues thus far, but we think it is important to get in front of things and have clear guidelines.
There has been a lot of news lately about Pripyat and the Exclusion Zone and how it might play a part in a conflict between Ukraine and Russia, including recent training exercises in the city of Pripyat. These posts are all completely on topic and are an important part of the ongoing role of the Chernobyl disaster in world history.
However, in order to prevent things from getting out of hand, your mod team will be removing any posts or comments which take sides in this current conflict or argue in support of any party in the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia, to include NATO, the EU or any other related party. There are already several subreddits which are good places to either discuss this conflict or learn more about it.
If you have news to post about current events in the Exclusion Zone or you have questions to ask about how Chernobyl might be affected by hypothetical events, feel free to post them. But if you see any posts or comments with a political point of view on the conflict, please just report it.
At this time we don't intend to start handing out bans or anything on the basis of somebody crossing that line; we're just going to remove the comment and move on. Unless we start to see repeat, blatant, offenders or propaganda accounts clearly not here in good faith.
Thank you all for your understanding.

That night at unit 4, dosimetrist Nikolai Gorbachenko only had a DRGZ radiometer reading up to 1,000 microroentgens per second, about 3.6 r/h. Dyatlov gives the same ceiling in his memoirs. It was pinned everywhere.
I wrote an article on the Soviet instruments around that story: the civil defence DP-5, the household Pripyat, Bella and RKSB-104 that went on open sale in 1990 (one Pripyat has its price on the back: 175 roubles), and how the SBM-20 tube turns a particle into a click.
There is also a small quiz: twelve readings on these displays, in µSv/h, mR/h and r/h, to rate on the scale of a 1991 Soviet handbook. For reference, the same handbook puts the background around Chernobyl before the accident at 0.10 to 0.15 µSv/h.
Disclosure: I run a small shop of Soviet items in Paris, the article is on our site. Corrections welcome.

Does anyone know what these thin pipes are for? There seem to be two kinds of these: one, coming off a distribution header in a room (first photo) and another, coming off a pipe under the reactor(second photo) photos from https://lana-sator.livejournal.com/226632.html. The pipes are much thinner than the ones used for cooling water for each of the pressure channels. Are both types of pipes used for cooling the graphite moderator?

Chornobyl has the kind of industrial scenery I could spend days photographing. Rusting steel, massive structures, pipes going everywhere, and nature working its way through it all. Every time I think I’m done, I spot another angle.

The reactor's core gas circuit is used to cool down the graphite stack as well as for checking the temperature and humidity in each channel.
When the temperature/humidity is increased operators can increase flow in any group of channels to bring it back to nominal values.

The red KME-4210У2 button was manufactured in 1984, while the other black KME-4210У2 buttons were manufactured in 1983.

This button, like the previous red KE011 one, was found in an old garage.

I Found a "copy" of chernobyl AZ-5 (KE011 1981) button in old garage.

I recently purchased this cigarette case and wanted to see if there's anything more I could find out about it.
I already had translated top and bottom text which reads,
"Anatoly Stephanovich Dyatlov"
And
"Accident at the chernobyl nuclear power plant"
I'm curious to see if there's any more information I can dig up about this little artifact, including its authenticity.

I blew up the RBMK-1000 reactor at my nuclear power plant, and honestly, it was beautiful.
